Tai movies are def. making something of themselves these couple of years. Ong_Bak is probly one of the best martial arts movies ive seen in a long while. The lead actor is like a Tai Jackie Chan who does all his own stunts and doesnt use any suspension or CG for his stunts. he is an amazing Muay Tai artist. The movie is a good old fashion action movie full violent fun. its not much of a story but i did say a good old fashion action movie lol. I highly recommend this to anyone who can get their hands on it. :X

Ong Bak (Thai Warrior)

Anywayz another martial arts movie to look out for is from an upcoming action star in the making who is said to overtake the likes of Jet Li, Jackie Chan and surprisingly Bruce Lee, and this man is called TONY JAA!

The movie is called Ong Bak - Thai Warrior! And apparently he uses hardly no strings or effects in the film and man if thats the case the martial arts that he does in this film is off the wall SUPREME, check it out! This guy is going to be huge!

http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/ong_bak-tlr.html/

This is actually being released in Australia on the 3rd of March, cant wait to see it, I can see this guy becoming big, and I hope he does! Muay Tai seems to be a new type of technique shown on cinema and I think it kicks ass from what I have seen!

The film was hysterical. The thai language is interesting, especially coming from a voice box. The action was phenomenal, and the fights were great.

Thats what I dont understand. How does he glide like that from what I see on the trailer. There must be at least some sort of camera effect, who knows hehe Either way I dont care because it looks great and seems to have a unique technique of action and fighting!

i think he's just really really good
when he jumps inside the circle of wires for instance, it seems hard to fake
but even harder to do!!!

This almost seemed like two different movies. On one side, expectedly, you have predictable plot and dialogue par for a martial arts flick. Pacing was awkward at times and slow at others. There were a few funny moments coupled with the subtitles. On the other side, you have the action sequences which are hard hitting, fresh, and amazing. The music and editing seem to kick up a notch, and I really got a sense that they were able to make full use with what seems like a small budget for the film. The martial arts market has been saturated with kung-fu flicks, and its really nice to see a different style (muay thai) done in a similar format. I loved seeing pure knees and elbows smashing into people's faces in slow motion, and one can sense the raw power in his movements. Tony Jaa is an amazing athlete, and I really recommend this for fans of the genre.

For those who are talking about the sliding scene, that can be done w/o wire. I have the dvd and it looks like there is some sort of lubricant or oil where he does it. Additionally, the man KNOWS how to jump/hurdle. Where it looks like he's 'flying' can be reproduced by his jumping ability and probably a trampoline of some sort.

Just seen this flick, and wow what can I say, great entertainment, superb fight sequences. I hope Tony Jaa really keeps at it, as I think he definately as the ability to be an upcoming action star!

His technique was incredible. And in my opinion the movie was mainly to showcase the talent of this man, and as I said, was very impressed. Cant wait to see more of him.

Ong Bak - the thai warrior

This movie had a interesting plot and you get into it pretty easy. I like it cuz it also contrasts the rurual areas of thailand with the city (bangkok).

Anyways a drug lords lackey boy called Don and his homies come to the lil village of nog pradu and steal the head of their Buddha that is in the shrine of their village. the people of the village call it ong bak. and they believe it has mystical powers that keep them safe. so of course they need someone to go to the city and retrieve this precious Buddha head.

So they send Ting, who was trained in muy thai his whole life by a monk who raised him. he meets up with his distant cousin and they go to look for Don together but his cuz is a lil shady and ends up pushing him to fight for money. in the movie the big thing in bangkok is the underground fights where its to the death. shit is pretty wild. its nuts you wont be able to stop watchin.

Its a pretty sick story and if you are interested in Muy Thai or any form of martial arts youll love it. there is some insane fight scenes and lots of action. Also, theres no digital effects or fake stunts....all the stunts are real, the guy who plays Ting , Tony Jaa is amazing. insanely talented.....also the way they filmed it was cool , you get to see a lot of the scenery of thailand which is beautiful. the "bad guy" don answers to is a crazy character, whoever played him was good cuz you definately feel like he is one evil mutha fucka. The dubbing is funny as hell but it aint too distracting. oh yea and if you watch it on the subtitles they say different shit than when its dubbed over cuz the copy i saw had both on at the same time. thats the only bad thing about it.

if you like any kind of fighting movies this is your shit, or any martial arts films in general, even if you just interested in the culture and seein another part of the world.

ive seen this movie, i can vouch for it.
story is kind of corny but tony ja (sp?)'s stunts are just badass

here'd the back of a chinese dvd of one of tony ja's later movies. the caption is refreshingly honest.

If you can't read it, it says
The hardest part of watching this movie was that the action scenes were so good, but the story was painfully bad. You may want the DVD version so you can just skip through the story line to the beautifully choreographed fight scenes. The movie starts pff with so much promise - great the elephant kidnappers, which takes .... to Sydney where he uncovers endangered species restaurant. He ends up fighting ... ... the ... evil head of the Chinese gang.

what a crack up :D
