It isn't one of those films that you can watch over and over and over again. After seeing it twice and hearing a million people qoute the film, I've decided it'll be awhile (a long while) until I can watch and enjoy it again.

me and my dad got drunk as hell last nite and watched this for the 1st time....i have to say man my friends were right this shit is funny as fuck....dryest humor ive ever seen for sure.....my good buddy told me to look out for all of napoleons different t shirts and FUCK man he had the best t shirts ever!!!...i want the one with the palm trees and shit,id wear it all the time :)

First time I saw it I thought it was pretty funnny. Saw it again recently and couldn't make it through the first half-hour. I guess for me it lost a lot of its lustre.

Did anyone else sense a weird homosexual vibe between the uncle and the brother? Or think the uncle was prostituting himself instead of selling tupperware?

Sat through it. Completely unimpressed. I liked the clips shown in ads, but only because they were all out of context.

Quirky for quirky's sake just doesn't cut it for me. At least Wes Anderson has some style.

I didn't hate it. So 2 stars.

i keep putting seeing this off for some reason. i don't know why exactly... i guess the impression that i get is that its a real 'you're either going to love it, or hate kinda movie', and i'm thinking that i'm gonna hate it :\

anyway, i will pick it up soon, and i guess i'll see.

and on an unrelated note, it wouldn't let me post that in all caps... thats kinda quirky in and of itself...

GOSH!!

I think the idea would have been great as a 10 minute skit. But feature length? No thanks.

To paraphrase a review of Dustin Hoffman's performance in Rain Man:

he was humping one note on the piano for two hours.

First timed I watched it I hated it. Second time I watched it I was able to find some comedic value in it, but still not anywhere near what everyone else seemed to think about it. Third time I just turned it off, limited replay value.

1.5 Stars

First time I watched it, thought it was pathetic.
Second time I was like 'meh'
Third time I giggled quite a lot.
Fourth time me & my sister were in hysterics on the floor.

So I challenge anyone who doesn't like this movie to the 4x Test!! You'll be glad you did!

For me to watch a movie and think it was "pathetic" and then to watch it again and think it was "meh" and then to be willing to watch it a third time, I would have to be guaranteed to live no less than 48,906,742 years.

^^ Suggestion only applies to one who finds themselves 4 situations where they have to watch Napoleon Dynamite or a) die a horrible death ;)

You can't try to be a "cult following" movie. It's something that happens naturally over time as a niche crowd are the only ones left that like the film. Therefore beginning a "cult" :)

^ Oooh, you're telling that to the wrong person, buddy! I'm well-versed in the above! =D

As far as the movie goes .... I don't have issues with a film that isn't about anything, but the problem I had with Napoleon Dynamite was that I couldn't figure out whether it's supposed to be about something or not. There were some gems in the film, to be sure, and the relationship between Napoleon and Pedro was laid out nicely, but it felt like there was something lacking. Hell if I know what it is. :)

I agree. Perhaps an edith massey cameo would have made our viewing complete ;) :D

I saw this for the third time tonight, and am now convinced that each viewing of this film lowers your IQ.

well i watched it tonight and i liked it. there were a lot of funny lines all the way through the movie which had me chuckling, but at the same time they never had me rolling on the floor with laughter either. but i do guess that i was wrong, firstly for having put off seeing it for so long because it was entertaining to watch, and secondly for thinking that it's a movie that you're either going to love or hate, as it's quiet possible to just like it.

i'm torn though between giving it 3 1/2 or 4 stars... it's definitely not 5 star worthy for me mainly because i just didn't really love the way that it was shot from a cinematographic point of view. the introductory credits, for example, i thought were very cleverly done. however i had real difficulty being able to read a vast majority of the names, which although nothing tragic in the bigger scheme of things, does at the same time stand up as a good representation for the movies overall unpolished feel. 'close, but no cigar'.
