Since there's no spoiler-warning in the other thread I will post my thoughts here.
"philosophy? What philosophy? I've seen more philosophy in an episode of married with children!"
A qoute from an IMDB-comment. IMHO it pretty much sums it up. As far as visuals go, the effects were great. For the ending of the Matrix-trilogy however I feel we are entitled more than just great visuals. If I wanted great visual effects I'd watch Captain Nemo.
It's late and I'm tired, so I won't write much. The film is filled with action scenes, some pretty good, but in the end it gets tedious. There is nothing of innovativity in any other parts of the film. It is extremely easy to predict what will happen next. No schocking plot twists, no deep philosophy.
The dialogue often seems to be a work of a three-year old. Actually, a three-year old would have done a better and less predictable job. Often it's just extremely repetitive. It all follows a linear path. Horrible plot and dialogue. The scene where Niobe is chased heading to Zion is just a 20-minute wait for how she will get back, not if. Of course the ship is saved at the very last moment. the sentinels inside Zion killed with the EMP which gives Neo juuuuust enough time to perform his "miracle" and save Zion. I won't even go in to the very end scene. Cheesy, ultra-hollywood crap at it's very finest. It doesn't close the door to a sequel either (I understood it was supposed to?). On the way home me and my friends joked about Matrix becoming the new Friday the 13th, with movie after movie coming out. But hey, that won't happen (thank god), since the Wachowskis said it's the last movie. At least I hope so. They've fattened their wallets enough, especially with this load of crap (Reloaded was watchable and still retained significant parts of the first film IMHO).
Most importantly it doesn't really IMHO give any answers or fit in with the rest of the matrix-plot.
The machines gave Zion/the humans freedom in exchange for the destruction of Agent Smith (who is by far the most entertaining in the whole movie, the only one who's dialogue is well-written and executed). In the process Neo dies/ceases to exist as the One.
Given the thinking of the machines, they could easily do and destroy Zion. Why should they give the humans their freedom and allow Zion to continue existing? With Neo and Smith out of the picture, they could just send a million sentinels down there and wipe Zion out forever.
If they give freedom to all humans that want out (which should mean all humans), how can the machines continue to exist? As I understood it they fed from human bodies. Even if the Matrix was just for programmes, how could it continue with the machines dead?
Anyways, I will stop ranting. It sucked. 3/10 I give it, and most of it because of the special effects. Sorry for poor wording and grammar, but it's late and I'm tired. My mind is slow after being in the Matrix for two long hours...
