film: Layer Cake

Directed by mr madonna's producer, Layer Cake hits the UK drug and crime scene in a frank manner similar to both lock stock ... and snatch, but stands out (and above IMO) to the others in the way it removes most of the humour which carries the others.
What's left is a much more serious film with more believable characters and all six chambers full of suspense and clever twists.
The main characters themselves make guy ritchies protagonists look like bumbling fools running on luck alone. These guys are PROFESSIONALS, which as the story works on works both for and against them.
I enjoyed this film on many levels.
 
I really enjoyed this film. All the twists at the end threw me a bit, but hey, that's kinda what I was expecting.

I didn't know that this done by Guy Ritchie but would have guessed by the familiar format. I liked this film. The ending was unexpected yet fitting. Why is it I always feel empathy for drug dealers in films?
 
The producer of Guy Ritchies's films directed this piece and did a better job IMO.
 
I seen this movie when I was hanging out with some british dudes. Thought it was pretty cool. Think it was a pre-production copy though, kept running something across the screen about it being illegal to copy it or something.

Side note: Damn Europeans are some bootlegging MF'ers. Not saying I'm mad at you but since I've been here I've been buying movies on dvd before they're even released in the theaters in the states.

I bought pills in London for 5 GBP last summer. That is what the guy who stole them thought they would go for each on the street. What's unrealistic?
 
£5 is a little steep. I'd usually pay about £2.50 and that's if they're good but if you're buying in bulk like the guys in Layer Cake it goes waaaay down.
 
Quite an enjoyable film :)

I enjoyed the soundtrack too, but I've come to expect that from Mr Richie's lot. (shame his films are all bollocks - besides Lock Stock and Snatch of course)
 
Good film and nicely done. The ending spoilt it a bit though... :)
