I understand that there are different people with different tastes

I also BELIEVE that people like things for the wrong reasons
and are sometimes overtaken by pretty colours and effects

I BELIEVE what I said is true
and that if you look past the shiny wrapping paper and the pretty ribbon
you will see the film to be shit

You seem to be looking for reasons for me to piss you off or for me to argue with you...

Why try and censor my original post (as you know you did) when I SAID AT THE BOTTOM OF IT THAT I DIDN"T MEAN TO OFFEND AND I UNDERSTAND OPINIONS OF THIS FILM THAT ARE POSITIVE I JUST DONT AGREE WITH THEM AND AM PASSIONATE ABOUT MY OPINIONS?!?

i invite you to entertain the possibility that, if you look past your apparent hatred of tarantino, other people see that this film is not shit but is in fact excellent for many reasons.

there are no "wrong reasons" to like something. art is what people say it is and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

as long as you continue this crusade that there is some kind of objective reality in which tarantino movies are just shit and people who like them are "wrong", i'll have a problem with what you say here.

it will continue to be a problem if you break forum guidelines by wrapping up your opinion in ad-hom attacks on others.

if you truly do not mean the personal attacks, you need to review your writing style and find a way to reword some of the things you are saying - e.g. don't use second person when you are not actually referring to the second person.

If people said, god damn that film was fun, light-hearted entertainment rather than comparing him to the greats, the people who have pushed boundaries and are helping film develop into something greater in the future... If people didn't call him a genius. Or his films masterpieces...

i encourage you to reread this entire thread.

i believe your apparent hatred of all things tarantino and a great deal of emotion is preventing you from viewing this particular movie - and the subsequent discussion here - with anything approaching objectivity.

OK so I saw it last night. I gotta say, it wasn't amazing, but it definitely wasn't "retarded" as I thought it looked from the previews. Lesson learned: Don't always judge a movie from its preview. ;)

[edited out ad-homs]

KILL BILL: amazing stuff, one of the best films i have seen and tarantino is just a legend, 3 thumps up ;)

Frankly Souny, I don't think you like "film". I think you like "movies". Looking over your old posts, I see a pattern of placing plot over miese-en-scene and cinematography.

Please take some film classes at your local college, watch Pulp fiction or Kill Bill shot for shot, then come back and tell me they're bad films.

IMO Some of Tarentino's work is up there with 8 1/2 or Battleship Potyomkin.

Sorry if this comes off as elitist, but i see posts that are all sound and fury, with little substance to back them up.

dwah - this is so stupid. it is a fucking movie, y'all are taking this *way* too seriously.

some people like different movies. can't we all just get along?

as a stand alone film i felt kill bill was lacking. but i am a huge old school kung fu fan. kill bill had so many homages to this film style and thematically followed so much of these old kung fu movies i had to love it.

Why is everyone giving souny so much shit? He didn't like the movie and is certaintly entitled to his own opinion. This forum would suck if everyone spouted the same "oh, it's genius, I loved it" crap over and over.

I haven't seen Kill Bill, yet, however...Hopefully over the weekend.

kill Bill is great

I dont understand the original post by 'sounygordna'. It looked like he just ripped a couple quotes out of other posts. He took the 'i was ecstatic by quentin tarantinos latest work of genius....' from my post and a couple other lines from some others. I am very confused. did he like it or not???
We are reading too much into this though. I as well as numerous others in this thread stated they loved it. Only a couple said it sucked. More yays than nays.

3. if the people on this forum aren't open minded enough to take a negative opinion of the films that they discuss perhaps they should step back and consider what a debate \ discussion is actually about

if you can say you think it's incredible, then surely i can say i think it's crap. what a ridiculous suggestion that i should only post positive comments.

how does that in any way promote honest discussion?

hello

honest discussion is welcome here and your contribution is welcome. i can only speak for myself but i certainly encourage to you to be honest with your views on the art.

however you must understand that you often word your messages in such a way that you insult the person writing the message rather than discuss the issue. perhaps what we have here is a simple communication breakdown - i'm certainly willing to cop to my 50% of this and i'll endeavour to read your messages a little more broadly in future. stick to the ball and not the player and we'll get on like a house on fire :)

i could write, paraphrasing you:

"if (certain) people on this forum aren't open minded enough to take a positive opinion of the films that they discuss perhaps they should step back and consider what a debate \ discussion is actually about"

but that would be petty :)

of course there are. people like films cause sexy girls are in them. that's a wrong reason.

people like movies cause of big explosions and lots of guns. that's a wrong reason.

your "wrong" reason is another person's "right" reason. i find it frustrating that you believe that, with regard to art, you are right and other people are wrong but let's move on and try to get beyond this he-said-she-said.

please stay within forum guidelines and welcome back to v&pa.

Wow. That's the single most conceited thing I've read in a long, long time.

You've decided what is "right" and "wrong" when it comes to enjoying a film. That's amazing.

You say you're a student of film. Does that mean you aspire to be a film maker?

If so, allow me to present your future. You will have a string of movies that nobody wants to see, and at the end of your career you'll be a bitter never-was, complaining how people's tastes weren't sophisticated enough for your "art".

If people see a movie and the majority of them enjoy their two hours, then the movie was a good movie, period. Who are you to question the validity of their enjoyment?

You don't consider that "questioning the validity of their enjoyment?"

Now if you had said, "In my opinion, people who like films because of sexy girls and explosions like films for the wrong reasons", well yes - everybody is certainly allowed an opinion.

But you did not. I'm sure you know the difference between a statement that expresses an opinion versus one that expresses something purported to be a fact.
