Did anyone else shit themselves at the end of the first scene? I wasn't ready for it at all. And then that song that played right afterwards had me dying laughing. LOL. Great choice. Tarantino has totally outdone himself with his 4th film. The only problem is there are going to be HUGE expectations for Vol 2.

QT's the man. Besides, I owe my BL name to him.

If this is as good as some of you have said, it yet again confirms my theory that the worse the reviews of a movie like this are, the more I'll like it.

The guy at the Times Union here is usually right on with hating every movie I love...I was thrilled when he gave Matchstick Men a horrible review.

Ahh, I can't wait to make it out to this one. :)

I just saw it and while I knew it would be violent, I don't think my brain had adjusted from the trailers for romance movies that I had just seen! So the first scene was a reality check of what the next 2 hours entailed.

I liked the movie but I closed my eyes a lot (because I'm a blood and guts wimp). I liked the music. I liked the direction. I liked all the female asskicking. The lines were campy but they suited the movie.

It was cool.

in-fucking-credible

I just saw it again, and read the entire script of both the 1st and 2nd volumes.

i can't believe that people are trying to compare Pulp Fiction with Kill Bill. They are so different, especially thematically, you really can not compare them reasonably.

personally:

jackie brown > kill bill > pulp fiction = res.dogs

but i've got a thing for Pam Grier... :)

sounygordna - Seems to me you were expecting the movie to be something other than what it was.

It was intended from the beginning to be the epitome of the martial arts B-movie genre. How deep did you think the plot was going to go?

I thought Kill Bill absolutely hit its intended mark, unlike some other of this years big movies which failed to connect ( *cough* matrix ).

I was tricked into seeing this movie!! I hadn't heard much about it at all and I didn't know it was 1 of 2. I hate cliffhangers! I still haven't seen any of the Lord Of the Rings, just cause I want the whole story at once. But even though I was tricked I still enjoyed it ALOT, very great way to end the first vol. I'll definatly see 2 right as it comes out! ( I have to find out how and why she was getting married, theres going to be something to that!!!)

Let's start with the title (although films titles don't neccesarily reflect ther quality, I couldn't help but laugh when I heard about Tarantino's greatest "masterpiece")... Kill Bill - volume 1... right from the beginning, it's obviously the work of a genius. I mean Bill rhymes with Kill! Classic, unforgetable film making right from the get go.

perhaps it's ironic? perhaps it's a joke?

i think it's actually quite clever. all the movies that tarantino has directed have had - perhaps coincidentally - two-word titles.

this, however, is the only one which is not a (proper) noun. indeed, it's a grammatically correct sentence in only two words. it's also mysterious - is it an imperative to bill to kill? is it an imperative to an (as yet unknown) third party to "kill bill"?

who knows but perhaps there's a little more to this simple, catchy title than meets the eye?

if 33% of your critique is the title of the movie and another 33% is an (as yet) groundless insult to the acting, need you say more?

in my view yes - you need to say a lot more :)

Nah, cos then it'd be - kill, bill.
It could be an assassin's service charge. Or a list of people killed/to be killed. Or a fatal duck's beak. :D

The title could have been better, but I got more than I expected to see and, frankly I think it has everything... kung fu, anime, gore and the humor wasn't bad at all... best movie I've seen in a long time:p

Kill Bill was great

I was absolutely ecstatic by Trantinos latest work of genius, KILL BILL.
It was on of the best flicks Ive seen recently. The direction, camera work, the locales, and THE ACTING were great. GREAT F'n Movie!!!! I am totally psyched for the next part. Cant wait.

I am a cheap bastard and still plan on seeing it again on the big screen (this says alot).
I must admit to being wonderfully blissful on Vicodin and THC at the time of viewing which may have added to the experience.

^^^

Have you even seen the movie? Your post gave me the impression that you haven't.

yes alasdair, the title is obviously a work of genius.

i never said that. i'm just inviting you to consider the possibility that there's more to it than meets your eye.

how many times have you seen kill bill, out of interest?

i know with most movies - and tarantino's are no exception to me - that my opinion often changes after a second or subsequent viewing.

you say that you understand "that there are different people in the world and there are different tastes in film". this is an excellent opportunity for you to show that you practice what you preach :)

It was fucking great, and I am extremely critical when it comes to movies.

That's all I'm going to say about it though. Go check it out for yourselves.

the only reason i posted on this thread to begin with was because someone said they don't understand where opinions contrary to their own were coming from.

i understand, that doesn't mean i have to agree.

i understand that completely. i just find that statements like these:

"If you weren't so wrapped up in Tarantino's over-stylized, packed-with-trickery film making techniques and hanging on the edge of your seat to gobble up his next load of meandering meaningless nonsense then maybe you would see that the story behind this film comes across as something like a teenager who's just hit puberty's fantasy played out on the big screen."

and:

"UNDERSTAND (as I do) that there are different people in the world and there are different tastes in film"

completely contradict each other.

anway, i thought you were leaving V&PA never to return? :)

My Brain is STIll reeling!!

I LOVED this flick! Sure its the most deleriously over the top major studio release of all time & is absolutely the most violent mainstream American film ever made. But its made by a true master. Bravo!!
