I dunno...I've never seen a movie quite like this one (um....except for 8mile maybe) and I've watched many "black movies." I thought it was straightforward, well-written and hit the spot.

dd, chill out and watch this puhleeeeeeeze? ;)

This movie was pretty decent. I thought casting DJ Qualls didn't make much sense. This was a serious film, and when I think serious, I certainly don't think DJ Qualls.

i've given up on "black movies"

now we get these one dimension thugs who create their own misery and the only image hollywood has to paint of them is broke ass morons who can't escape their reality and follow pipe dreams.

.

thats a sad post. honestly if you considered ANY of the characters in this movie one dimensional thats on you, not the film :|

^ I dunno man. The characters seemed pretty one dimensional to me.

I liked it, but I found it a bit cheesy. I'm mean, it's supposed to be all "gritty" and "real" but, end-all-be-all, it was just a Hollywood, rags-to-riches, feel-good flick about a pimp and his hoes. Just one example that sticks in my mind, "when the chips are down," the little white ho becomes a hustling corporate manager out there making deals and meeting people, in montage, all backed by that stupid motivational "We're gettin' it done now, sister!" kind of music.

But overall I liked it. It was pretty good and Terrence Howard is, aside from being a good actor, pretty damn hot.

i enjoyed this movie very much. from the title and trailer it appeared to be some weak wanna be ghetto ass story about making it big in the rap industry. then i saw it and was very suprised as to how good the cinematography and acting was.

my sentiments exactly. this film was off my radar for 4 years until last night. i was about to play some tiger woods golf and the opening scene started playing on MTV. i immediately was interested in the dialogue so i kept watching. admittedly, i'd written it off since it came out as another 8mile type movie, but the acting was much much better in this, the story was much much better in this, the dialogue, the rhymes, the BEATS!, the cinematography... yeah there were parts that were somewhat predictable, but i still thought it was executed well. and dj qualls... i'm not a fan whatsoever, but i actually thought he was good in this, terrence howard and anthony anderson were excellent.

i'm buzzin on this film right now. :)

its one of those movies when you dont watch it you kinda forget but after you watch it , its like puttin on one of your favorite records and listenin to it again for teh first time in a while and you like damn, now i remember why i really liked this.
