I enjoyed watching Burton's vision of Charlie, Wonka and Co. It entertained throughout and creatively speaking Burton once again comes through with his bizarre, yet magical touch.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD
I'm gonna have to disagree with some here though and say the original still wins...if only because I wasn't able to listen to the bliss that is "The Candy Man" "I've Got a Golden Ticket" and "Pure Imagination". I can never detach Wonka and Co. from these songs, so it's unusual for me to see the story told without them. Of course, I wasn't expecting the songs, but the new songs, while funny, didn't capture me the way the original songs did.
Oompa Loompas...fuckin' aces. Great work all around, and that's a big compliment considering it's tough to match up to the old Ooompa Loompas.
The puppet scene...classic. The song played is easily the most catchy of all in the new movie...and the most annoying too.
Good catch on the Fear and Loathing reference too! The initial licking part was funny enough, but the tongue flick almost had me falling out of my chair. No doubt some people were confused by my reaction.
The flashbacks seemed out of place, but still worked overall...and reconnecting back to the present with Willy daydreaming was a nice touch.
Excellent casting all-around, though did Burton REALLY need Helena Bonham Carter in another one of his movies?

Her fake teeth bugged me a little. Grandpa Joe's dance was great.
A visual delight indeed.
