The trailer looks really bright... and of course I expected it to be twisted...

I can accept Depp in a goofy "pageboy" haircut, but the fake teeth make him look like Jim Carrey.

i just watched the trailer for the first time. i like how it looks. future-retro?

i notice that the screenplay is by john august who also wrote big fish, charlie's angels and go which augurs well...

Such a good idea for a remake. The trailer looks "off"...I like it. After reading the book as a kid, I wished I was in the chocolate factory and then the glass elevator.

I got the impression that it's going to be quite heavy on slapstick-style humor. Note the scene toward the end where Depp does the walk into the camera gag.

I guess I was expecting something a bit more subtle.

well after my best efforts on this piece of shit computer of mine, i still cant view the trailer :p:(

but the costumes look awesome, and i'm still thinking this is gonna be great! so so excited. wish it was coming out a little bit earlier though, the waits killing me :)

Humm.. I can't get that .mov to play, even after I updated Quicktime to the latest version (On Windows) anyone else have a problem?

Completely unrelated but I got a copy of the original on DVD for christmas from my brother and I'd forgotten just how much I love that movie. The part is played so well and the sarcasm oozing from every comment of wonkas cracks me up so much...

this movie is going to rock.. as far as remakes go most end up sucking...
but Mr Depp is going to give movie the poetic justic it needs

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

BRING IT ON

I finally just saw the original a couple weeks ago...But I liked it and Depp is one of my favorite actor's so i'm looking forward to this new Willy Wonka movie.

It will be interesting to see how Johnny Depp pulls off the role of Willy Wonka.. To be honest I would have liked to of seen Marilyn Manson pull the role off too, because I think he could honestly do a good job of it. Though I don't think he would have been picked due to the child audience, and his history.

i just wanted to bump this thread to tell anyone in australia who doesn't already know that Charlie & The Chocolate Factory will be coming out in IMAX!!! well, i'm excited, never been to IMAX before, and this should be un-fuckin-real!

i'm also guessing since this is what's happening here they'll be doing the same thing in the states too. so... woohoo! =D

This should be amazing, and IMAX, I'll be stoned as a motherfucker or on shrooms if I can get them.
Depp is easily one of the best actors ever, along with Nicholson, Benicio Del Toro, laurence olivier, michael caine, shit too many. Fear and Loathing was his best performance in my opinion. I think that whenever Burton and Depp collaberate they create gold. I think this film while be uncomparable to the original, and I beleive that Burton will endeavour to make it very different while keeping to its core, can't fucking wait.

^ the making of documentary is great. the explanation of how the last line came to be is wonderful.

Yeah I'm so fucking annoyed - for some reason the audio doesn't work on the documentary on my DVD. Bastards!

IMAX ay? Heaps good, might be worth the Ten dollar train trip down to Sydney to see it there :)

I stop at Depp. Are you for real when you people (from page 1 of thread) say that Marilyn Manson will make an interesting Willy Wonka?
For starters, the guys a complete cop-out who gives shit to other people (the wealthy, more fortunate in-life), yet he sets himself a double-standard and makes millions around the world by "shocking" people... and making kids/goths, etc... feel "accepted" in a way... for being pessimistic.

2nd he is not an actor. Usually musicians are fucking shit actors (think-Courthney Love, or... Sting anyone?), they should stick with their "day-jobs".
I know Johnny Depp's in a band, and apparantly they ain't kickin' it off either. Just a point.

Anyways... I reckon Johnny Depp's the perfect role. It stops there!

Manson has recently accepted a rather large role in a film that did suprisingly well at Sundance. Beyond that he's had lots of small roles in Party Monster, Jaw Breaker, Lost Highway, and several shorts.

2ndly being a part of a particular subculture, goth in particular, doesn't require pessimism nor depression, that's a stereotype. 3rdly, manson doesn't encourage anyone to dress or act like him and as stated in many interviews, he hates it when people do.

Manson has started small and worked his way up in film and will continue to do so. He doesn't through his money and his weight around to get big parts in big films just b/c of who he is. He's started doing shorts here and there and background roles. NO it's not starting from the bottom, but he's put alot more effort in than say David Bowie or what you're average rapper does when it comes to acting.

You'll notice he's taken the same approach when it has come to photography, music video directing, record producing, poetry, and painting.

4th what is so wrong with a rock star A) pushing the "decency envelope in mainstream" and B) making outcasts feel better about themselves?

I love people who rally behind "independent" labels and artists.. when 90% of the time, they're only independent until some big company waves a contract in their face. At least Manson never changed his style nor compromised his music or stage performance.. or toned down in any way shape or form to sate some record label. He uses them, they use him. It works.
