Anybody remember the "alien" skeleton in the trophy room on "Predator 2"? A friend and I are in a minor debate as to wether or not that's what it's supposed to be.

No need for the debate, that scene is what started the whole AvP movie craze....once fans of both series saw the alien skull that's when everyone start talking about an AvP movie...so yes, you are correct.
 
I just hope the explosion on top of the pyramid in the trailers ISN'T the films climax, but I have a bad feeling it is.
 
seeing that it has been given a rather tame ratings classification, i doubt it's going to contain the hardcore factor that i as a fan of the two franchises was hoping for. a factor that i thought would be necessary to regenerate the interest of fans like myself which has waned over the years, mostly as a result of over exposing the alien creature in the more recent, more forgettable sequels. originally captivated by tense fear inducing scenarios, executed in fine fashion by directors scott and cameron, there is now no real reason to be afraid. the 'killer' is no longer unknown, demystified. still, like all fans i anticipate the film will be very watchable, regardless of it being cult worthy or not.

I liked every Alien flick and the original Predator is prob Arnold's best movie.
Which isnt saying much but...Lance Hendriksen as Bishop. Well shit.
I think that's a pull. I'd like to read the script because its probably crap.

I'll probably see it anyways tho. Just to see what kind of farce it will be.
 
Given that the film is released in less than 6 hours here, and not a single review has been released at rotten tomatoes, it's hightly likely that the film will be horrible. The distrubution company seems to not have had early critic screenings, which is the kiss of death for 99% of movies.

Also, (IIRC) it's PG-13, it's not going to be the bloodbath most of you seem to be hoping for
 
I went to a free sneak preview of this film tonight. I went in without having seen a single one of the Alien or Predator movies.

I had *SUCH* low expectations for this movie. I thought it was a completely cheesy concept, a movie made just to make some sci-fi geek happy somewhere in Hollywood. I didn't know that there was an entire subculture, including comic books, devoted to both of them. I didn't get it, as they say.

However, I really really enjoyed this movie!!! This billionaire Weyland scientist wants to investigate a pyramid observed by his satellites. He assembles a team of scientists and archaeologists and goes exploring.

They arrive ready to drill down to where the pyramid is, 2000 feet below the surface, a la Armageddon. (This movie tossed in references to just about every movie ever made, including Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, The Matrix and Charlie's Angels, to name a few.) But something beat them to it, a shaft is already drilled, just waiting for them.

So the team goes exploring, finds the pyramid, and starts reading the hieroglyphics. They learn that they are bait/incubators for the Aliens, which in turn are big game for the Predators. As someone mentioned in a previous post, the Predators send their young males to Earth to battle and hunt Aliens. The Predators win, they enter manhood and return with honors. The Predators lose, they set off a nuclear device that takes out the whole planet.

There were exactly 3 quick scenes in this film that were way over the top, fully mozzarella with a Parmesan sprinkle. The rest I thought was great. The movie was done very well, paced well (can't say acted well though, cause they were all nobodies.)

I am sure some die hard fans will hate it, but for an average viewer like me, it was well worth going to see.

3.5 out of 5 stars. (4 on BL's rating system.)

And for all of you people betting on who would win in the Alien vs Predator showdown, COME ON!!! It will be the humans, of course! ;)
 
Kinda Spoilers.. don't read if you don't want to

I gave the movie three stars. I'm with Daisy.. there could have been more battles. The battles could have been more action packed, the shots went by too quick..really dark... and at bad angels. The fight scenes could have been alot better.

I did quite like the story line though. I do think it could have been more developed and had a little more thought and effort put into it.

And as for the ending, I'm going to disagree.. It "could" be a set-up for a sequel, but to me it was just a little something extra to keep your imagination going once it ended. I liked the ending to it.

I'll put the rest in white text.. to not ruin anything for anyone:

The thing they definately put thought into.. was how well we, humans/audience, would could identify with predator more than Alien. Predator.. might be savage killers.. but they're humanoid.. with traditions. While aliens.. are more insect like.. with a hive mentality. Two distinct "bad guys" from the sci-fi/horror genres. And i liked alot how they played on that.

This movie wasn't anything amazing though. Just pure entertainment playing off the imagination of people who've thought this thing up again and again... even before the books, comics, and games.
 
short review, no spoilers:

I liked it. It was hard to notice the bad acting, seeing as how the humans are nothing but cattle for the aliens. My only other complaint is the retarded "all cultures who built pyramids were the result of predators, and this pyramid shows evidence of all of them".

Thats about it, other than that, great action! I'd like to see another story in line with this one, and thats saying something.

That what i meant by elaborating.. if they elaborated on the "first civilization" and took that further than merely linking them all together through pyramids alone... it could have had a nice story/history to it.

The flick sucked balls! The start was very slow & did not need such build up of characters since they all pretty much get killed as soon as they get to the pyrimad. The part when the black chick teams up with the predetor just looked sooooooooooo corny. Especially when they are on holding on to that seld going up the hole. Very lame film especially the ending with the alien poping out of the dead predetors stomach since many times in the film the predetors are clearly shown seeing through bodys to see the aliens growing in bodys.
