FIFA World Cup 2010

Things aren't looking good.

Milner was badly off the pace, King is crocked, Carragher looked far too slow and the 'keeper is a genuine liability. Plus although Heskey created chances with his presence he clearly won't chip in with any goals this summer.

Plus we lacked craft in the oppositions penalty area with Wright - Phillips and Lennon particualry wasteful.

For the remaining two games the priority must be to score goals, as despite our shortcmings at the back our two opponents should not trouble us too much. I think a case can be made for Joe Cole in those games as he is a great player to have with the ball in the oppositions penalty area. Also, the two full backs should fully 'bomb on' in those games.

I thought Glen Johnson and Gerrard played well yesterday.

My commiserations to anyone who lost money due to Green's howler.

I thought England did OK. Remember that this was our first competitive game since September 2009. It was interesting to see that Capello stuck with the same players who got us through our qualifying group - Heskey, Milner, Green, Lennon.

It must have given Capello a real idea of who's in form and who's not. I thought Gerrard was immense - he seemed to be all over the pitch, and was definitely the man of the match for me. I thought Heskey, Lennon, and Johnson were all good too. The disappointments were Rooney, Lampard and Ashley Cole.

So far in this tournament, no team has set the world on fire. I guess we're still waiting for Spain/Holland/Brazil to set the benchmark................

I agree, thought we played pretty well overall, the freak gaff from Green aside. If that hadn't of happened, I'm convinced we'd have gone on to win 2 or 3 nil, that USA goal (and the nature of it) took the wind right out of it.

Heskey had a top good, man of the match for me.

No need to panic anyway, we'll settle down now over the next few matches I'm still certain we're gonna top this group.

Watching Algeria-Slovenia now. They both suck. I don't think England will have problems beating them, but the USA might beat them both as well - could end up coming down to goal difference to top the group. Which would be excellent =D

I'm watching it too Jest, no worries at all from these two - 6 points in the bag for us.

Agree on the States not having any worries with them either but if it comes down to GD, I'd be fucking fuming if we didn't trounce them on it.

im pissed off that england conceded such a shitty goal
watching algeria now and they certainly are shit, i went to see ireland play them around two weeks ago and we whopped them. england should easily win their next two games but the knockout stages are going to be really hard to call if england keep performing like they did last night

rooney has been on the missing list for months now wtf

Same, I've got 14quid on Germany to win 8quid. Hoping for an early goal then I might lay it off to lock in a profit or near profit regardless of outcome. If Oz score then I'll just keep the bet on and hope for the best, only playing with winnings from earlier anyway. May put some on correct score market and over 2.5 or 3.5 goal markets too depending on how the game pans out.

I'm expecting a Germany win, but nothing is certain obviously. The draw is looking quite possible too imo. As long as Germany score first in first half I should be sitting pretty...

Aussies having a brave go against Germany, but getting outclassed. Klose just missed a sitter though. [Edit: and then scored one...:X]

4-0 Germany. Pretty much as expected (well the Aussie media might be surprised). Real worry is Cahill's soft red card. He will be missed in their next must win game against Ghana. Nice payback for his shocking challenge in the NZ warm up match. :|

Nice little warm up for the German's. They looked crisp and really composed in the back.

Crisp and composed full stop. If they carry on like that they're going to be strong contenders in this World Cup.

Don't get carried away with the German performance. Yes, they looked good, but Schwarzer had a shocker for the Germans' 2nd goal, and then the referee made a terrible decision in sending Cahill off. After that, the game was always going to be a procession for Germany.

Just wait til Spain play their opening match on Wednesday. Then we'll see the standard that all the other teams are gonna have to beat.

:)
