I really can't see it happening. Although the UK bookies might have shortened England's odds (and lengthened the USA's odds) due to all the muppets betting on England regardless of the price, so maybe there's some value to be had for you, Kid.
I just don't think the USA have enough good players to really hurt England, and even if England don't play well, I can still see us nicking a goal by playing long balls up to Heskey or Crouch.
Also looking forward to watching Argentina tomorrow - Maradona has said he's gonna start with a front 3 of Messi, Higuain, and Tevez. Pretty tasty

USA are 15th or something in the FIFA rankings. They're not mugs. I don't think they'll win, but could maybe see a draw if England start slowly. Should be interesting.

That was a lifesaver, those cheap twats from our state broadcaster sold the airing rights for most of the games to SKY, so either pay or I have to watch the games online, the only ones they're showing on free tellie are the Italy games.

England seemed to be improving through the game, at least. It's a long tourney, you don't want to peak too early
Commentators are doing my head in though: the number of times they explained how unlucky England were (even the Rooney header from a Stevie G cross: no, Rooney wasn't unlucky, the cross was slightly overhit, so even though it was a good cross, it wasn't good enough)....downplaying England fouls - there were a couple of quite vicious ones, they'd have called for yellow cards if it had been anyone else....not to mention that in other games they were mostly only talking about players that had played in England. Grar! Stupid commentators!

I think mistakes were made ref team selection & substitutions & squad selection, playing a guy at centre back who has the acceleration of a normally aspirated diesel engine in international football was a bad call & we nearly paid for it.
I've noticed that the ball bounces too much & class players are regularly putting freekicks 10 feet over the bar - what gives as it isn't coincidence.
A lot of stuff was overhit, how are footballs pressurised?
Lbs per square inch ? - if so they ought to replace that system with a given volume of air which is put into the ball at the altitude at which the match is due to be played - I know you'd have thought they'd have thought of that but after what I've seen so far i am wondering if they could possibly be that stupid.

I thought England did OK. Remember that this was our first competitive game since September 2009. It was interesting to see that Capello stuck with the same players who got us through our qualifying group - Heskey, Milner, Green, Lennon.
It must have given Capello a real idea of who's in form and who's not. I thought Gerrard was immense - he seemed to be all over the pitch, and was definitely the man of the match for me. I thought Heskey, Lennon, and Johnson were all good too. The disappointments were Rooney, Lampard and Ashley Cole.
So far in this tournament, no team has set the world on fire. I guess we're still waiting for Spain/Holland/Brazil to set the benchmark................

Good point B9 - probably more the fault of the new lighter balls than of Gerrard (and I wasn't trying to blame him; I was just getting grumpy at the commentators who think everything is luck and it's always against Albion ).
