Favourite uncommon names?

when i was pregnant, Sakura was one of the names we thought of using but being that my daughter is half Chinese and not Japanese, my ex went against it.

i like the name Orien/Orion for a boy, i'll be using the name for my son. Darwin is also a good name. my future kid's middle names will be Gray or Rain. my daughter's name will be Marley :)

^I love Orion as well. I also know a BLer who will be very very pleased to see another Marley is in the works - and a she at that! ;):D

I have a very uncommon name but it's always been admired by my peers. Older people can never spell it correctly and it annoys me to the very depths of despair sometimes. It's phoenetic, it shouldn't be that difficult! :X
If I ever have children they will have unusual names and I will teach them to be proud of their unique calling card and to patiently recite the spelling to ignorant plebs with names like 'Jack' and 'Sally'.

Names I like at the moment:
Ignatious [boy]
Amadeus [boy]
Quince [boy]
Quin [girl]
China [girl]
Luna [girl]

i really want a girl and to name her Vada. my hubby is so opposed. but the love of my life, my great aunt, that was her name, and i have a lot of belief in renaming someone with respect to someone who was important to you. i think it is unique, and any child i raise will earn that name and be happy with it.

so i hope :D

ugh, i feel your pain sweetheart. my name is very unique but definitely not spelled phonetically; people (even those that live in the country(s) that speak the language) rarely know how to pronounce my name.

Some parents have been branded abusers because of the bizarre names of their children.

Family Court Judge Rob Murfitt stated his concerns in a written decision after a custody hearing in New Plymouth revealed a couple had named their child Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii.

He was so disturbed at the effect on the nine-year-old that he ordered her temporarily placed under court guardianship so a suitable name could be chosen.

"It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap," he said.

The girl, who had not had her birth officially registered in NZ, had not revealed her name to her friends.

The judge was stopped talking yesterday by Principal Family Court Judge Peter Boshier. His office did provide some New Zealand-registered names the court knew of.

They included: Fish and Chips (twins), Masport and Mower (twins); boys Yeah Detroit, Spiral Cicada, Kaos, Stallion and Hitler; girls Cinderella Beauty Blossom and Twisty Poi; and sex unknown Keenan Got Lucky and Sex Fruit.

what about 'Seven'?

I mean after all, it was Mickey Mantle's number!

I've met people with that name,it's odd but I don't think it is horrible.
