Favorite science fiction movie?

Finder said:
Primer was pretty fucking good. I haven't enjoyed a sci-fi movie as good in quite some time.
Yes, I've enjoyed it like 15 times now and I finally get it all. At least I have my version down. The coolest thing about the film is that it is "user-freeform" and as Aaron says in the film itself: "The answers could never be known..."

It's on my top 10 shelf and elevating.

Deep Star 6.

Cheesy ass thing. But it holds a special place for me. my favorite actor AND a guy who graduated from my high school...

God yes. I love how they took Heinlein's book which was a right wing piece of shit, bordering on damn near fascism, and made a very critical satiric left-wingish movie.

Haha he would be rolling in his grave :)

Only thing missing was the inclusion of the armor suit...which was sort of a big part of the book imo. :(

i couldn't pick one. :X

some of my favorites...

2001
Contact
Solyaris
Solaris
Blade Runner
Metropolis (saw this with a live orchestra once - AMAZING!)
Tron
Minority Report
AI
Star Wars trilogy
Star Trek II
Dr. Strangelove (definite genre controversey here)

i would also add some of Gilliam's films, but i have a difficult time calling them sci-fi.

matrix and star wars...

what is it that makes certain movies your faves? to me it is the philisophical undertones, and the subvertive spirituality behind certain movies...the ones that really speak to you...what about everyone else?

I kinda get bored with just listing movies, i would like to hear why.

Total Recall
Fifth element
All star wars

i really dont think hollywood produces enough science fiction movies these days i hope they do something about that.

*bump*

...because i just saw soylent green and thought it was average (review posted!), and also because there could be a new addition to this list soon.

i just got through reading philip k. dick's a scanner darkly for the first time and thought it was great. being a fan of do androids dream of electric sheep already, i was looking forward to the pending adaptation of a scanner darkly by richard linklater (he of waking life and before sunrise fame, amongst others).

but now i'm creaming it tbh :D - the book was good, and the movie looks set to be even better. it's going to be fully rotoscoped (anyone who saw waking life will remember the weird moving-cartoon look of it - real actors playing the parts are then sort of drawn over and re-animated...it all looks very cool), and i think it just suits the atmosphere of the book perfectly.

there have also been big rumours about radiohead doing the soundtrack to this film, though they seem to have calmed down now. i don't know if there's still some chance that they might do it, but god that would be perfection.

so there's my prediction for a good upcoming sci-fi film anyways :)

The Fifth Element
12 Monkeys
Aliens
Predator
Blade Runner
The Fly (1980's version)
