Favorite science fiction movie?

my personal favourite is twelve monkeys...

with honourable mentions to:
the x-files movie: fight the future
aliens
alien
blade runner
dark city
12 monkeys
the matrix
the 5th element
cube
pi

blade runner gets my vote
original matrix has to get mention simply along the lines of the new technology introduced was awesome from my lowly film student point of view - also damn you people for reminding me of the last starfighter! oh.. memories..

Great choices. With the exception of X-files.:)

^^^ ?? the lotr is fantasy, not sci-fi :)

and i can't believe i forgot total recall - adaptations of dick's work rule :D i should probably add robocop too, if it counts, because i really like verhoeven's work.

pi isn't sci-fi.. is it? cube is cool though...

i think so - it's a thriller set with in a fictional world whilst the story is based around science and mathematics, so i would call it such.

thanks :) i put the x-files down just because i'm a massive fan of the show and i love the mythology aspects of the movie - and even then, it was still a pretty good film, considering.

Blade Runner is probably one of the best Sci Fi films i've seen, along with the Matrix. the sequels weren't that bad, just very over hyped.
the Alien Trilogy aswell, not including Ressurection, that sucked.
Mars Attacks was canny funny ;)

The 70's version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers is in my Top 10 list for all movies (haven't seen the 50's version and the 90's version chewed donkey's balls). Classic!

I liked the Mini Series of Day of the Triffids - mainly because it was more truthful to the book (yes I know there is another thread on this) - also the similarities between Triffids & 28 Days Later (I have also brought this up in the Movies you want to live in thread).
