Favorite one-line in a song

Black the sky, weapons fly
Lay them waste for your race

Porcupine Tree - .3

Those are the only lyrics in the song, and when I hear them, I have goose bumps :)

it's not really one line, but from john hartford's gentle on my mind:

I dip my cup of soup back from a gurglin' cracklin' cauldron
In some train yard
My beard a rustlin' coal pile
And a dirty hat pulled low across my face

(really the whole song)

(and no, ffs, glen campbell didn't write it)

Dont you think I know what Im doing
Dont tell me that its doing me wrong
Youre the one whos really a loser
This is where I feel I belong

Snowblind - Black Sabbath

"I don't ask for much, truth be told I'd settle for a life less frightening."
- Rise Against (Life less frightening)

Wow, I forgot about this thread.

"I'll try to make this perfectly clear, I'm so transparent I disappear"
Cursive - Sink To The Beat

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

Billie Holiday ~ strange fruit

WOW. When I saw this thread- I thought of this song and just clicked on a random page number and this was the first on the page.....pretty weird.
I love Billie Holiday!

So we carry all the groceries in while hauling out the trash
If this doesn't make things motionless I do not know what can

Modest Mouse - Spitting Venom

"there is no if... just and" - There is no If - The Cure

It captures my view of how things are. Alot of the song is along of the lines of "if you die, then so do I" but in reality it should be "You die and so do I"
The acceptance of that is what can free us from the pettiness that we bind ourselves with. Of course, once you find yourself free, you could go either way.

I'll play the scab at your hunger strike..

Trired to stop the tricking with the bible belt and then i began to melt,
Reminding me of torniquets and heroin nods,
now that right there? thats one hell of a god,
you can't match magic with an addict thats got a map and compass,
in order to find a substance and match stick that functions..
