Favorite metal bands of all time and why

Not one mention of Motley Crue? They fuckin rocked before they got all fat.

Ozzy when he could still function?

am I too old here?

What about the metal bands heard in strip clubs over the years. Do they qualify as metal to you?

Guns & Roses?
Nickelback ?
Rainbow / Dio?

I never liked Poison because they looked like a bunch of trannies.

And as much as I like Wanted Dead or Alive, Bon Jovi is pop, not metal, dammit. :D

All of the above would be defined as pop, except Dio and his bands and I guess Ozzy too. I love Crue and Guns to death but they are really outside the aesthetic definition of metal respective of their time period.

Oh yeah all time favs:

Ulver- Bergtatt; because it speaks to my forest worship.
Incantation- Onward to Golgotha; cause its thrillingly ugly and innovative and I love how the drums sound.
Children of Bodom- Follow the Reaper; because the songs are so energetic and effortlessly cool.
Decapitated- Nihility; cause it freakin rocks and its I think the first death metal cd I bought.
In Flames- Colony; first experience of metal and there power behind the valence of these songs was overwhelming at that age.
Wintersun- s/t; Blinding, deft, anthemic.
Dissection- Somberlain; because its ice-freaking cold and I love the how this record is mixed.
Sacramentum- Far Away From the Sun; because it might be the best use of the natural minor scale in metal. now if i could only find this on cd.
Shape of Despair- Illusion's Play; play it loud while driving thru heavy snowfall at midnight and tell me youre not on another level.
Crypstopsy- None So Vile; for obvious reasons.

Pantera - So aggressive and hard hitting with out sounding forced like allot of other bands.
White Zombie - Love the low fi sound of this band and the muffled kick drum sounds sick.
Sepultura (pre roots) - Best thrash metal band ever
Metallica - In their peak they where unbeatable. Sad But True has to have one of the thickest heaviest guitar tones ever.
Black Sabbath - The original

Probably the only real metal bands I listen to.
My favourite metal/rock bands are

Led Zeppelin - In-sainly good musicians.. timeless music.
Tool - All round perfection.. dark but positive
Deftones - Such a unique sound, I love Stephen Carpenters guitar riffs and Chino's vocals are awesome as f**k!
Rage Against the Machine - So powerful funky heavy and melodic at the same time.

Rainbow. Dio. Sabbath. Maiden, etc etc etc

I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from... :)

Lately been listening to a ton of Eyehategod. Junkies take note. Take As Needed for the Pain and Dopesick are two of the best metal releases I've ever heard. The track "Anxiety Hangover" also just makes me want to get fucked up, and die.

Here is an awesome video someone made for it:

1st place- Slayer
2nd place- Metallica

Tool, Pantera

Not sure if it counts: Rage Against the Machine, Korn, System of a Down, Marilyn Manson

Older: Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Motorhead

Edit:

Decided to shorten it a bit..

2nd Edit:

Explanation..

I like to be able to understand the majority of the lyrics in songs. More of a speed/thrash metal fan if you could tell lol. I guess I don't really need to explain as you can see what my tastes are.
