Favorite Instrumental Albums

Dirty Three - Ocean Songs.
devastatingly beautiful and sad
Tortoise - TNT
very inventive and diverse.
Amon Tobin - Supermodified (this is electronic, does that still count?)
a spectacular clash of jazz and electronic years before Cosmogramma
GY!BE - Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada
best EP ever.
Labradford - Mi Media Naranja
if ennio morricone played ambient music. amazing
Al di Meola, Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin - Friday Nights in San Francisco
the hipster in me hates myself for including this amongst the above 5, however the guitarist on me can't help myself. damn good stuff.

apparently it counts for this list.... Because Amon Tobin... Bricolage... needs to be there

as well as, the before mentioned Music is Rotted One Note (Pusher) and Ultravisitor...

Ultravisitor (especially Iambic 9 poetry) is a masterpiece....

but... Tim Reynolds - "Stream" is a classic (In my book)

Telegraph Melts - Ilium

Those are 2 post-rock albums off the top of my head, now that I think about it a Mogwai album would definitely make it as well. But instrumental can also mean, like hip-hop beats. In which case, RJD2's Deadringer is a classic. Then you have IDM, eg Boards of Canada. If we include jazz, this post would be too long.

SHITAO

Yes, imo he's that good to earn himself the big-ass font.

I had this CD I found once by some azn guy called 'Kintaro', it was all instruments I think, pretty cool to me as a kid

Helios - Eingya
Animals as Leaders - Animals as Leaders
Three Trapped Tigers - EP
Burial - Untrue
God Is An Astronaut - All Is Violent, All Is Bright
Chimp Spanner - At The Dream's Edge

It has some vocal sounds, but they're all sampled and I consider it to be an instrumental album and at the same time one of the best hip-hop albums ever. Amazing stuff.

Non-Classical

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Soft Machine - Third
Camel - The Snow Goose

Classical

Chopin - Études
Bartók - Concerto for Orchestra (regent: Sergiu Celibidache )

All of the above are incredible on psychedelics

Buckethead - Colma, Giant Robot, Cuckoo Clocks of Hell

Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People is instrumental for all intents and purposes

Praxis - Warszawa, Mold

you are my hero<3 Have you seen bucket this tour? AfuckingStounding. i know weve talked buckethead before because i remember you talking about the praxis show from bonnaroo 04 if im correct? His past few albums have been incredible starting from Diamond in the Rough through the newest one (cant remember name unfortunately) It sounds like he fell in love, then lost his love, and then recovered himself through his past 3 albums. I actually read somewhere recently about how he creates his music. Apparently he tackles a song as if he is vanquishing an enemy, as if its a stage on a video game! Makes perfect sense huh?

@ thepodman: did you know that Pucifer is going on tour this fall? Sick shit man..sick.

@ the Squarepusher mention: Has anyone heard his new band? Shoebaleader One i think? Something like that. Excellent album.

As for my fav. instrumental albums id have to say that The Orb has it covered. However, Metallic Objects by The Orb and David Gilmore is my absolute fav. instrumental.

i have the double LPs of Dimlite's "Runbox Weathers", Flying Lotus' "Los Angeles", Dr Who Dat?'s "Beat Journey", as well as Mr Oizo's "Analogue Worms Attack" on double LP.
all are pretty boss instrumental/beats music.
also i have Santana's "Caravanserai" LP, thats got no vocals to my knowledge. some of his most cosmic material is on that album.

i would also recommend Madlib's "History Of The Loop Digga" on double LP, if you love true hiphop like i do.
i got a lot of hiphop on vinyl...

one album i would urge any music lover to get is Mulatu Astatke's "Mulatu of Ethiopia" LP. all of this mans music is incredible. smooth, funky, soulful north african jazz type stuff. amazing.

anyone got any recommendations for me in regards to hiphop/beats music, and techno (more like minimal n electronica)?
looking to build a huge collection, already off to a start.

Buckethead - Population Override
This album was all improvisation, supposedly they just started jamming and when they were done, plus a little mixing, this was the outcome

It's my favorite Buckethead album by far

been listening to Primordial and Sol Invictus lately. They have lyrics, but during perhaps like 4% of the song length.
