Fave Tracks/Albums of 2007!

Favs from 2007

Hmmm...I'm kinda a breaks n drum and bass guy (though i'm terrible at remembering dnb track names). I also like house, but been less into that this year.

Antiform - Boombox (Screwface remix)
Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (MSTRKRFT remix)
4kuba feat. Lonedog - So fucked
Mephisto Odyssey - Superphonic (yup that's right, mephisto odyssey are back :) )
I got this mephisto odyssey mix when Camacho came out, it was pretty good.

Dang, can't think of many that really stood out this year...

Maybe i'll remember a few more in a sec

Edit: oh yeah, and Hardy hard and Lady Waks two songs "minimal" and "listen". "listen" is especially good.

I knew you'd come round to that one in the end.

Its weird, the album initially sounds like it doesn't have much depth or something- but then when I relistened it had seemingly transformed- I can't wait to hear some of these tracks out!

I keep remembering albums I bought last year that were good, making my comment about last years music being sub-par pretty reduncdant.

A great suomi compilation called No Possible Sounds, with all the goodies, plus The Solution from Bom Shanka records; nice darkpsy.

I had a fairly similar response to it initially & it took a good few listens before its brilliance began to seep into my brain. The best albums are often that way though I find, only revealing their secrets after repeated exposure.

2007 Track of the Year

i just realized last night that we hadn't done any sort of "year in review" here. how did everyone feel about the quality of releases in 2007? i personally had a fantastic year branching out into new subgenres, discovering a few killer artists, and as a result playing some of my best sets to date.

if i had to pick one standout track as my favorite from last year, it would be this:

gareth emery presents runaway - "outrageous" (shiloh remix) - [baroque records]

it's a progressive house track with exceptionally crisp percussion, warm rising feel-good synths throughout, trancey hints in the background with a bumpin' electro vibe up front, and it just rules. i played it to death in 2007.

i first heard it in april at the end of a dj mix by shiloh on hybridized.org. i had one of those moments where i was just sort of passively listening to the set while doing some other stuff at work, and then this track came in and slapped me in the face with the full force of its awesomeness. i immediately thought, "what is this? i must have it!"

it didn't get a vinyl release until june, and i don't think i was able to get my hands on a legit mp3 until just before that, but i continued my love affair through shiloh's mix. i love the versatility of this tune. it's a great opener, and i actually used to lead with it sometimes when i was feeling nervous about a set. the strength of the track somehow kick-started my confidence. it's also a great closing track because it has such a 'big finish' feel to it. you can play it with house, prog, electro, breaks; inside in a club, outside in a forest or desert - this jam fits everywhere. it defines 2007 for me.

let's hear some of your favorites from the year we just left behind!

thanks to swilow for merging these bad boys :)

it's been mentioned repeatedly, but i have to throw out even more props for vibrasphere's "exploring the tributaries". that album was one of the best i was exposed to, electronic or otherwise, in all of 2007. i really enjoy hearing such powerful, chuggy progressive and lush chillout on the same release. vibrasphere does both so well.

Nu:Tone- Back Of Beyond

i'll have to check it out. i got away from this style a bit because i was neck deep in psy all year, but i love the smoothness of nu:tone's sound. thanks for the recommendation.

electronic - bass nectar, underground communication

non-electronic - tool, 10,000 days
