2007 Track of the Year
i just realized last night that we hadn't done any sort of "year in review" here. how did everyone feel about the quality of releases in 2007? i personally had a fantastic year branching out into new subgenres, discovering a few killer artists, and as a result playing some of my best sets to date.
if i had to pick one standout track as my favorite from last year, it would be this:
gareth emery presents runaway - "outrageous" (shiloh remix) - [baroque records]
it's a progressive house track with exceptionally crisp percussion, warm rising feel-good synths throughout, trancey hints in the background with a bumpin' electro vibe up front, and it just rules. i played it to death in 2007.
i first heard it in april at the end of a
dj mix by shiloh on hybridized.org. i had one of those moments where i was just sort of passively listening to the set while doing some other stuff at work, and then this track came in and slapped me in the face with the full force of its awesomeness. i immediately thought, "what is this? i must have it!"
it didn't get a vinyl release until june, and i don't think i was able to get my hands on a legit mp3 until just before that, but i continued my love affair through shiloh's mix. i love the versatility of this tune. it's a great opener, and i actually used to lead with it sometimes when i was feeling nervous about a set. the strength of the track somehow kick-started my confidence. it's also a great closing track because it has such a 'big finish' feel to it. you can play it with house, prog, electro, breaks; inside in a club, outside in a forest or desert - this jam fits everywhere. it defines 2007 for me.
let's hear some of your favorites from the year we just left behind!
