Duh. You know what I mean. Its just amusing and a bit tiresome how some people blatantly tell another person who have achieved or experienced some kind of benefit from ( insert biological / medical based therapy that may or may not be a crock of bull to you here).."NO!! Deciding the effectiveness of techniques or products based on your own personal experience is not at all prudent. Personal experience is nice and all, but it is always a matter of selective memory. Confirmation bias ruins the credibility of personal experience as a major factor in your opinion of effectiveness.

If you believe the perceptions of effectiveness of techniques and products based on just personal experience and word of mouth, you're going to fall for wives tales and urban legends and scam artists and just plain weird stuff over the years.
 
I never believe in something just because it worked for others , and I dont speak for everyone. I do my own research based on what is best for MY body and what I think is best for ME. This is not my point. But if something happens to have worked for THAT person, who are we to judge and tell him/her thats its just a load of bullshit? That is my point.

Of course we can all give our opinions and always agree to disagree in a nice way. :)

Intermittent Fasting

so i started fasting every other day starting on monday (its friday here) to hopefully cleanse my body and get rid of hives ive been having for about a month now. on tuesday, i didnt eat for 18 hours and on thursday, for 19 hours. i only drank water with pure lemon juice during no food times.

i want to get rid of these hives and i cant figure out why im getting them. it could be so many different things, and ive tried everything i can think of. i thought this intermittent fasting would help, and it might be, im just not sure. today when i woke up, i was COVERED in hives, and still am, more than i ever have been before. could this be a way of getting toxins out of my body? im really at a loss of what to do since i dont have insurance and cant afford to go to the doctor and not sure i really want to get prednisone anyway.

has anyone tried intermittent fasting and gotten good results? are the hives a reaction of the fast and will they get better in time?

any advice would be greatly appreciated. i dont even wanna go outside or do anything. this sucks. :|
 
I've started cutting carbs from 4pm-bedtime. Its practically like fasting and damn is it making me sensitive to insulin.
 
The more I read about it the more convinced I am this might be a good practice. Not sure I would go a whole 24 hour window fasting though. I'd say 8 hours would be plenty (maybe 2x8 hours every week). This would effectively increase sensitivity to insulin. If muscle-building is on your radar this would definitely help, insulin is the most anabolic hormone in the human body.

I wouldn't stay in a catabolic state though for a whole day and I would ensure I shot over my daily protein intake the day before I did it (so I could build up stores of protein for the fast).
 
Very dangerous. You should talk to your GP before making radical changes to your diet.

With regards to the cause of your hives: It may not be diet related. It could be seasonal, I get hives every august, some insects or some shit I don't know te actual cause. My sister gets them too.

With regards to eliminating toxins generally: Fasting (or drinking shit tonnes of water as seems to be popular these days) will not help you eliminate toxins. If you have kidney disease then you need dialasis to eliminate toxins, if your kidneys are healthy then no special measures need to be taken. Eliminating toxins is the kidney's primary function and they perform it better than any machine we can come up with.

I have suffered countless hypoglycemic attacks thanks to "unintentional" fasting (ie. starving), and there is no way in hell you could convince me that this shit is good for you.

I have also practised fasting for an entire month back when I was a practising Muslim, and I have found it to do more bad than good. I am now staunchly against fasting.

JV, there might be many reasons you get your hives, but I promise you that making yourself hypoglycemic will NOT solve the problem.

Please go see a doctor <3.
 
I've been told that the body gets very "toxic" in the beginning of a fast. After a few days, things even out. I'm definitely not recommending fasting as I'm not convinced of it myself. Just telling you what I've heard..
 
it's been my understanding the fasting actually gets rid of a lot toxins in the body. I haven't really looked into that deeply. I'd love to see some solid facts about the effects of fasting. I've entered a 3 day fast for various reasons. I'll be drinking a lot of water and lemon juice along with gatorade.

Your liver and kidneys are the cleansers of the body. Degradation and elimination of toxins in the liver and kidneys respectively is energy dependant in most cases so proper nutrition (ie. not asting) is essential for these systems to work correctly.
 
water fast

Starting my water fast Officially now (as I remove this snus from my upper lip lol). No more Cigarettes (nicotine for that matter) or food, only water. I'm 140 pound with little fat so I'm going to try this for 7 days. I read a lot about my body switching over to ketones, and how muscles like your back will start to hurt as toxins are burned up and removed. Viruses, bacteria, and dead cells will be used as fuel too. I'm really excited to get to better health. Anyone ever done a water fast?
 
Nope. Sounds dangerous? How is your body going to deal with oxidative stress with no form of anti-oxidants. What about essential vitamins and minerals? Sounds like a very dangerous way to detox to me.
