Fasting

I'm glad you're joining us, amapola--Sorry to hear about your knee!

I can't wait until the warmer weather gets here--The first day of Spring means it's gettin' closer! Today it's cold, rainy, and windy. Yuck.

I decided to join in on a water fast, with a couple of accommodations. I am allowing myself fruit, as long as it's pulverized before it goes down.

I had an apple for today, and boy, was it flavourful. The stress of school hopefully won't leave my blood pressure running in circles, but today was decent in terms of energy.

^ Sounds like a good plan. Gotta keep the energy up at school/work. :)

Looks like I may be forced into breaking the fast tomorrow--Checked the schedule and I am at the child care center for my internship, where we will have to "dine with the children" as part of the schedule... Dunno how well me not eating will go over in front of children, so I may have to partake... Gonna play it by ear.

^ Lol, they should be taught the benefits of fasting! Maybe I'll teach 'em that for my presentation next week. LMAO, that would not go over well with my instructor (who will be there for the presentation).

The food there today wasn't too unhealthy: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes (looked like from real taters), beats, pineapple, and wheat bread with butter. Oh and for snack they had Honey Comb and/or Cheerios cereal with milk. I mean, compared to what they could be having, I think this was pretty good. The child "care" center I went to a couple times would give us half a peanut butter or jelly sandwich for lunch. Breakfast was half a piece of toast with jam or butter.

Anyways, I didn't have to eat: I was asked if I wanted a plate and I said no thanks. :)

^ Looks like everyone's trying to put those kids on a diet at the other "care" centers!

The second day is looking promising! I feel great, not lethargic at all and have not had cravings for food all day. Even though my mom is baking pies and brownies, I realize that most of what's in those foods has no nutritional value anyway. I had one apple today and do not plan on having anything tomorrow, as long as I feel as good as I feel now!

ok i did 5 day fast and i got really sick. extreme fatigue and annoying mood swings.
tnx a lot for the encouragement tho.

^ It takes a few times for your body to get used to the idea of fasting.

It's like riding a bike without training wheels for the first time. You fall off, you run over things, you lose your balance, you run into a house *coughmecough*... It takes at least twice to get your body used to it.

I fasted for three days and had food last night and for today. I am going to do another fast, this time, five days, throughout the week, since I do not have work or school for the week. The three days of fasting were absolutely amazing this time around. There was almost no fatigue, no sickness and no near faint feelings. Had many appetite spurs, but nothing too serious.

How is everyone else doing on their fasts? Unless, of course, everyone is meditating all day and using the fast to its true potential. :)

Yeah, it definitely does take a couple times for your body to get used to fasting--The first time I fasted I only lasted 24 hours, lol. I'm surprised you lasted five days, asecin.

Broke my fast last night, but am going to start another one on Monday, hopin' to last until Friday this time.

Hey dudes and dudettes. Hope everything is going well. I'm so sorry that I haven't been pushing this thread as I feel like it had real potential but I've been in the middle of a shit storm from several angles and just haven't felt like talking about fasting and rebirth and spring etc in the least.

Anyways I ended up doing 3 or 4 days of water fasting or so and then went to juice once I was running on my leg again. Smoked some weed over the weekend but I can't believe there are many calories in that haha. Anyways I suppose you could say I broke my fast today on St. Patty's what with the empty calories from gin that have passed my lips. The devil got me and worked his evil through a Saint's feast for crying out loud.

I feel like spring might be a new rebirth for me in more ways then I expected though and I'm excited though apprehensive to see what the future has to hold.

I want everyone who reads this to post in this thread even if you only post your favourite thing about spring (you're welcome HL mods) so that we can get some community action going for the next few days until the days are finally longer than the nights. <3

Sorry to hear things have been rather shitty for ya lately, amapola. Hopefully things start to look up! :) I'm sure the gin helped, albeit temporarily. :P

I did a three-day water fast, and since breaking it have been really trying to eat less. For me, that is no easy feat but I think I'm doing rather well so far. I've also started biking again, so that's been making me want to eat healthier, too.

I hear ya on Spring being a rebirth in more ways than one: I'm so happy to be biking again--It's unbelievable how happy it makes me feel even the next day. :D

Hm, my favorite thing about Spring would have to be being able to have the windows open again--I live in a small place with someone who smokes about two packs a day. Believe me: Being able to have the windows open again is amazing.

Oh yeah sleeping with the wind blowing and traffic bustling is so awesome and I totally did not even think of biking again until I read your post which makes me so happy as well. It's 13°C in toronto at the moment and the snow is almost gone. Can't wait to hit the trails around lake ontario again.

I also shouldn't have said things have been shitty either, just unwelcome change from a good norm and lack of vision towards the 'new' future. Haha that's putting it nicely I suppose.

^ Dude, I'll be right on the other side of the lake, wavin' you on! :P

My favorite part of Spring is being able to wear shorts without being judged. As much as that's kind of selfish.

My favorite not selfish part of spring is the rebirth of plants. They've become almost my saviour, in a way. Whenever I am having a shitty day and there's no one around to talk to, I work with plants. :)

They had a hydrofoil that went from Toronto to Rochester for a year or two back in the mid 2000s. It was called the Spirit of Something or Other I think.
