Facebook: Hate it or Love it?

I'm sick of FB but I'm not deleting my account. I put far too much work into creating that fucking profile, and I'm not going to dump it.

That being said, I only use it for apps and other stupid shit.

1: who cares how many "friends" you have? It's a damn social media, IRL however it'd would matter to me.
2: their on lockdown
3: if idk em, fuck em, they got no business to be all up in my shit
4: if u tryin to keep tabs on a mf, your a damn creeper or rapist lol
5: I don't
6: neither. It's ight tho to keep in touch w/old friends get on twice/wk I'm too busy in the real world hustlin

I used to enjoy it. I picture whore my beautiful little girl and handsome sons, and get to keep in touch with old friends and family.

But since this last election and all this gun control debate bullshit, I really fucking hate it. All my family is uber conservative, friends also in addition to mostly being law enforcement aka gun control nuts. I'm having a hard time maintaining my sanity. If I hide everyone who annoys me, it would be empty entirely. But then again, they'd still see my pics so maybe I will do it :)

I mostly don't like it. My sister (who is really annoying me at the moment) posts inane shit all day, and is clearly involved in some sort of popularity contest with her "friends". I also hate it when I see people posting stuff like "I can't believe how much better the new 50" Plasma TV we got for £(shitloads) is compared to our old one LOL". I think it's a medium for people to brag about how much stuff they have or can afford or how glamorous their lifestyle is (according to them). I also have a theory that it's a way for ordinary people to pretend that they're somehow celebrities and that people care / obsess about their every move.

Having said that....I have used it to get in touch with people I have lost contact with 10 or 15 years ago and it's good for that I guess.

Someone once said to me "Facebook is where people tell lies to their friends and Twitter is where people tell the truth to strangers".

This is not really a pro or con but just something I was thinking about. How far will things like this actually go. As the technology progresses and more and more generations grow up wiyh social networking as a norm, where will it end. will there be live births? Live conception? Active cyber sex? Will there become a point where literally everyone is "friends" with one another. it just seems unsustainable as a cultural norm.

I actually have two profiles...one for old school friends, the other for discussing stuff like death metal and random sex. It passes the time when I'm bored.

Narcissism is evolution. How else can you sift through gigs of information? By filtering out what's pertinent to yourself.

...Will there become a point where literally everyone is "friends" with one another...

I flipping hope so. Can there be war when you're friends with everyone else? Narcissism will replace nationalism, and you don't want to kill your friends just because the institution who gives you food-stamps thinks they're bad.

Facebook is evolution, the cure to antipathy and war. Narcissism isn't a disease, it's a social perception that supports Identity and Desire as the sacred goals to life. We need to stop resisting and create new social roles, rules, and etiquette so people can pursue their narcissism without harming, economically speaking, the coming global identity for society.

I like drama a lot. But if you don't, you can customize it out of your facebook. Or do myspace.

This is not wrong! This is not wrong. This is not wrong.

While there might be nothing inherently wrong with it, I still find it to be an unsettling and delusional way of thinking.

I mean i'm all for unified consciousness, so I'm with you on that one, but notice I put "friends" in quotes. I feel like there should be more boundaries or filters between who can witness eachothers' lives. That kinda deal.

But on the other hand, I don't think narcissism is healthy or positive in any way. It's possible to use social networking in a way that is not narcissistic. Unless were thinking of different terms here.

^ These remind me of a select few I know. Also one of the reasons I love bL. No need to pretend you're anything other than you. :D

I find it to be pretty intrusive. I know it's only as intrusive as what is put on there, but if you don't post any pictures or anything that defeats a lot if the purpose it's supposed to serve.

I don't like the thought of people having access to pictures of me, family, and friends. Even if its on a "friends only" setting other people can still view it by logging into a "friends" account, or friends can save pictures and Facebook can do as they please with our information.

People who I care about with what's going on in their lives/people who I want to stay connected with have my phone number, address, and email address. If they want to see pictures of my family, they can request it. If they want to know how I am they can call or email me and the same goes for me to them.

Facebook is just a big showy game of whose the most "popular".

Didn't like it (or Myspace... fuck that) when I was in high school, but since I moved to a different state I use it and check it daily. It's a great way to keep in touch with a lot of friends at once. If I didn't have FB and had to individually call/text the people that I hang out with from home I would naturally lose touch with a lot of them.
