^One of Brad Pitts best performances IMO. He was just so thoroughly crazy.
85. Children of Men Great film. I love those incredibly long single shot sequences. Seriously some of those shots (the longest of which is something like over 450 seconds long) must have been a bitch to choreograph and plan let alone shoot in one continuous take.
so, in isolation, none of the ideas in the matrix were particularly novel but the whole package, assembled with some groundbreaking film-making techniques made for a somewhat thought-provoking, oh-so-cool-to-look-at, fun, techno-caper. as neo so wisely observes: "whoa!".
a refreshingly colourful and cartoonish look into the future, the fifth element is 100% overblown, hollywood blockbuster dressed up in jp gaultier haute couture. the plot is hokey ([spoil]he saves the world and gets the girl[/spoil]) but the whole things just leaps off the screen with so much energy and pizazz, the plot doesn't really matter. bruce willis as the good guy and gary oldman as the bad guy! unashamedly fun!
^Manchurian Candidate for sure. I'm not so sure about Dr. Strangelove. I mean the doomsday machine was kind of science fictiony but other than that it was pretty much based on existing technology IMO. Great movie though.
