Hey all,

I, like many others, have been reading for a while and finally registered. I've been having this problem for a while, but recently it's been getting worse and starting to worry me!

It's no secret that you get constipated when you do opi's, but the kind I get is pretty bad and is a lot worse than other peoples' I've asked!

Basically, I only shit about once a week, sometimes longer than that, and eventually after I've been getting the urge for a few days I man up and go to the bathroom and do the deal. I resist the urge as long as I can because I know it's going to be so terrible when it finally happens.

I go to the bathroom, and it starts to come out and starts hurtin SO freakin bad, I struggle with it for 10-15 minutes usually, sometimes longer. Once I pass it, I see why! It's SO freakin huge, sometimes almost a foot long, as wide as a can of soda 8o, and not soft at all. Sometimes there's multiple culprits. As far as I can tell, there is no natural lubrication being produced, it's very dry. Sometimes there's blood, and has anyone ever seen that movie Road Trip? You know the part where they go to the sperm bank and the guy asks the lady nurse to help him out, and she sticks her finger up his ass and "milks" him? Well that kinda happens - not like coming, where I'd be gettin off and getting pleasure from it, it just kind of leaks. It's not like I'm enjoying it, it's like the poo is up there fucking with shit.

Anyway, after I'm done, it's like I instantly need to go find some pills because my ass is in pain and I need to fix it.

Is this shit (no pun intended) normal???? Is it this bad for anyone else?? What am I doing wrong?? Please help! I know I could go get some stool softeners or laxatives, but I don't want to get in the habit of using those because I don't want to get tolerant to them in case I really do need them sometime, I don't want to have to call the hospital if it gets that bad, I'd like to be able to use them for emergencies.

A few things - 1) what opioids are you taking, 2) and in what dosages, 3) and why are you taking them (prescribed, recreational)?

In my experience, different opioids cause constipation and other side effects to very different extents. Oxycodone and oxymorphone for me are very mildly constipating, whereas hydrocodone and especially morphine basically put a full halt to my bowels. If you're regularly taking tremendous dosages, then you'll simply have to adapt eating/supplement habits (or drug-taking habits as a last resort ;) ) if you want to mitigate the constipation at all. If you're prescribed opioids for pain, then changing personal habits might be something you're more willing to do and indeed something you're probably going to need to do to stay healthy.

When constipation became an issue for me, I made changes to a generally more well-rounded diet, started regularly exercising (this really helped; a body in motion gets bowels in motion =D ), upped my liquid intake to stay especially well-hydrated, and used docusate as needed when in a severe bind.

I generally recommend against taking stimulant laxatives for opioid-induced constipation. Stimulant laxatives are so-called because they literally stimulate involuntary muscle movement in the intestine. Imagine having your colon severely backed up and packed tightly with dried shit; then imagine your colon wildly/uncontrollably spasming for a few hours. If there is a merciful god, this will come to an end before the laxative victim experiences a bowel perforation (in the absolute worst case) when more watery waste material from deep within the intestines is forced down to the end of the colon and mixed up with the drier material and so expelled. Been there, done that, no fun. :p

What I liked to do is dose a couple hours before going to sleep and by the time I would wake up, I'd be able to shit. Mind you, I still was only shitting maybe twice a week, but that was good enough for me to not be in too much pain when takin' care of business.

yeah I would either recommend breaks, but come on when all know eachother better than that. ha. So if that is out of the question the load up on laxatives, fiber, coffee, ciggs, plenty of fluids. Good Luck

Gelatine suppositories. When you're at the point where you feel you need to drag a shit out of you - take action, Gelatine suppositories break down the compacted shit that's the major blockage. Also lean forward and apply pressure to you paint...thrown in various supplications to God and all that is Holy and you should get there.

To avoid follow other poster's advice on high fibe diet and prunes.

ive been there bro, one time i didnt go to the bath room for two weeks. i was on 200mgs of methadone and 6 mgs of zanax. my stomac hurt so bad i felt like i was dieing. but long story short. it happens man dont dose b4 take a day break, and handle it. if you dont. its just gonna build up. its like ur giving birth. lol hella blood.

I've been there as well. Especially on suboxone.

I'm a daily dope user and somehow I manage to go everyday. I'm not sure why and it sure wasn't always like this. I experienced similar to what you are right now.

When I was on suboxone, my doctor told me it would be a good idea to take a stool softener pretty often. So, I just took them everyday and after about a month everything settled out again.

This is a problem well-known to opiate users - I find it particularly severe with morphine. When using, I keep a high-fibre diet, don't eat much - and use a stool softener, which makes for a MUCH less painful expulsion. The stuff is use is Dulcoease in the UK: the active is docusate sodium, and I'm sure you can find it OTC pretty much anywhere. It's expensive, but worth is, given the pain it spares you.

I find that H is much easier to go on than oxy. With dope I usually go once a day or every other day, but when I used to do oxy I damn near had to "help" it get out. One time was so bad I thought I was giving birth and had my bunghole sore for a couple days...Ive never bled though.

I just wanted to say a few things about opioid-related constipation--

First, a lot of people have recommended fiber and other bulking agents. This is NOT the best route for opioid-related constipation (and can in fact make things worse in extreme cases.)

Opioids decrease gastrointestinal motility, by reducing the peristaltic movements of the digestive tract. Stimulant laxatives counteract this, but they CANNOT be taken long term without dependence and tolerance to their effects.

For short-term constipation issues related to opioids, I would recommend a stimulant laxative (such as bisacodyl) as well as PEG-3350 (common brand name Miralax) as an osmotic laxative. This will increase water content as well as stimulating movement.

For longer-term constipation issues related to opioids (for those on pain management or with opioid dependence) I would recommend lubricant-based laxatives such as mineral oil as well as PEG-3350 as it is approved to be used long term.

Here is an excellent guide to opioid-related constipation that I've posted before, check it out!!

when I first got on bupe had this problem really bad....

Eventually I realised that if you wait until you are in withdrawal it takes much less bupe to hold you and it seems that the decrease in required dosage remains permanent if you stick to it....

That said, Once I learned that I started using my off day to go into withdrawal and liquify my teribly constipated shit and pour it out like niagra falls lol....

Then after i shit my brains out, i take my dose at half of what it was before taking the day off and I can continue at that half dose indefinitely (usually)

give it a try... just think how easy it is to shit in withdrawal lol.

a high dose of "Glauber`s Salt" dissolved in 0,7 liters of water did the job for me , after waitin for about 30-60minutes after drinkin (which i did very fast , i mean i almost drank that 0,7 liters in one big chug)...

Try mineral oil...lansoyls a good brand.... its red jelly thats 78% mineral oil it'll flush you out.... and crapping once a week isn't so bad, about 6 months ago I went almost 51 days without having a bowel movement... I've tried everything docusunate, herbal bullshit, mineral oil, bisocodyl...the only thing I haven't tried is an enema... they're a last resort though.

One of the main functions of your large intestine is to remove water from your stool. Opiates slow or stop peristaltic wave muscle contractions, which causes your large intestine to remove too much water from your stool. Use the glycerine suppositories over and over to get the already hardened stool to soften enough to come out. This can take days. Fiber helps the stool retain water, which is good to prevent hardened stools, but too late once it has happened. I take Polyethylene glycol(PEG) everyday to prevent hard stools. It works like fiber, but MUCH better. Miralax is one brand, but there are store brands that are less expensive. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
