Ohhhhh.... this is good.

Gavin Bryars, Alter Ego, Philip Jeck - The Sinking Of The Titanic

Recorded live at the 49th International Festival of Contemporary Music at The Venice Biennale on 1st October 2005 at the Teatro Malibran.

Philip Jeck, minimalist turntablist along with the ensemble
of Alter Ego and Bryars himself on bass, deconstruct and reconstruct Gavin Bryars' classic piece.

Lots of reviews on this version...here's one:

"While former versions have certainly done the piece justice, the addition of the Alter Ego ensemble and turntabilist Philip Jeck heighten the piece’s focus on its main obsession: the metaphorical failure of modern technology to trump nature.

Fixated on the myth that the sinking Titanic's chamber group played on until the very last possible moment, Bryars has Alter Ego weaving lines of the heart-wrenching Episcopalian hymn “Autumn” underneath an oscillating veil of electronic noise from Jeck...

The exploration of water’s effect on sound and reverberation is also impeccably framed by the interspersed tape loops of morse code, crickets, and crowd noise...."

Cheers for all the information everyone. I am just starting to go through all the recommendations on here.

I also used to love Spooky but have'nt had a listen for a while I will have to try and dig some up.

Check out Bluetech!!!! Can't believe he wasn't mentioned. he makes great psychill. most any song by him is gonna be good. Zero Cult also makes a similar genre.

*****Just to throw in a quick note on top, if any of you are subscribers on last.fm, I have a variety of playlists to choose from.. i believe there's 4 or 5 total. A couple different ones for different moods. The newer ones mix a little trance in with everything, the others are mostly psychill/psybient.

Feel free to rob my profile from that link too, just delete the /playlists.*****

Check out the album 1 Freedom by Isaak Hypnotizer. Listen to Every Moment is Magical and 1 Freedom (the song). They're my fav.

My three fav Zero Cult (saw he was mentioned earlier) songs are Broken Hope (for the intro and climax), P-ray (cydelix remix) <-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7L1Mqy9y0Y and Till The Morning.

I'm a pretty big fan of a few songs from Younger Brother. (One of the members of Shpongle (Simon Posford) with Benji vaughn from Prometheus. The duo makes a very unique sound.

*****You've mentioned solar fields.... Solar Fields is a big one for me. They are my top artist on last.fm apparently. Feelings (Album Edit) is one of my favs. If you have not heard it, this should change (; And for the more ambient side of solar fields...
Insum, or Insum (Remix) OR BOTH :D
and if you like that song, check out Leaving Home. A must check out for any solar fields fan is Times Are Good (Sometimes Remix)

Black Arrow and Kick Back go hand in hand together as a higher tempo, definitely unique (less ambient) style of solar fields than we know. Listen to 'Summer" too by them. VERY unique. mmmmmmmTheir Earthshine album is really something else. In a good way, of course. The Road to Nothingness, Shard, and Levitate are also recommendable songs. BUT FFS. Assure you have bass, and ample volume.

**LISTEN TO EPICENTRE - FIRST AND SECOND MOVEMENT by CBL

Carbon Based Lifeforms - Erratic Patterns

People who listen to AND TRULY APPRECIATE good quality ambient, psy, chillout, downtempo, IDM etc are rare to find nowadays. If you've got similar taste in tunes as I, and/or hobbies, feel free to give me an add on msn :) Im on a decent amt. and bored, like i am right now, writing this giant post about music I like.

(and, if you aren't in the USA, this video prolly isnt blocked.... They blocked it here... sooo fucking gay... but this is a reaaallly good song. if you dont find it through my URL, you can find it on related videos or w/e.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-NkzK2m6iQ
Pitch Black - Ape to Angel
(oh yeah forgot to mention Pitch Black. Some, not all of his tracks are good. But thats the case with a couple of the artists I've listed too. It takes a selective ear to choose a selected style.)

<3

Also, IIRC, a great way to load up on music is to go on isohunt and search for the dvd1-7 torrents (download as many or few as you want, its all albums of similar artists. Dvd4 and 5 were my favourite. dvd6 is most diverse.

^ Bluetech is awesome. I got given a couple of his albums not long ago. Will have to have another listen now.

FSOL kicks butt. I'd love to see FSOL live on 2C-x or some good LSD! 8o

I find it a mix of a buncha stuff from experimental ambient of their earlier years to more dubby and trancey stuff of laters on. They got something from everything. I like this oldie goldie from FSOL:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHhTrOS6b5s

They've released a bunch of compilation mix albums under the alias Amorphous Androgynous as well. A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding in Your Mind: Volume 1 being my favorite. It's basically made for the sole purpose of listening to while you're tripping balls. Seamlessly mixed with lots of added bits here and there to each song, along with trippy FX and sound bites taken from eastern philosophers, drug movies/references, counterculture icons, etc. Definitely worth checking out if you're planing to trip. ;)

You should give a couple of the songs I linked a listen.

And for some reason... Till the Morning by Zero Cult is becoming a really good song to play whilst chilling.

Mr. Scruff, Bonobo, Tosca

Can anyone recommend some other artists similar to these? I can't get enough.

I have nooooooo idea who to suggest.. that really irks me, im not familiar with Bonobo at all but have heard the name tossed around a lot. Im sure some one can assist you in here, theres a lot of huge EDM freaks in here. :D just be patient.

Welcome greenlighter, stick around our forum, its nice in here. We respect everyones taste in music, just make sure to search before making a thread and follow the overall BLUA rules and you will fit right in. I suggest you check out the rate the song above you thread and if you have seen many djs/shows check out the review thread and add your 0.2 cents.... Recently we have had a surge of reviews, and we appreciate them all. Take care,

-CS

Bonobo does a song called "Read between the Lines" with Bajka doing vocals

Has to be one of the trippiest / most psychedelic tracks I've ever heard - and I'm in love with Bajka <3 <3 <3

We have a thread on the artist Emancipator, which is filled with tons of amazing suggestions which also pertain to Bonobo. I suggest searching for it, and bumping it if youd like.

I love Bonobo, Black Sands is suuuuch an amazing album!!!

Off the top of my head though:

Emancipator
Ott (very psychedelic)
Random Rab
Nosaj Thing
Flying Lotus
Eskmo
Beats Antique
Tipper
Nightmares on Wax
Baths
Bluetech

I suggest bumpin' that thread though, its right up your ally!

Nice list Thizz! Beats Antique was actually through town not long ago, and I was a fan of NoW when they still produced acid house music in the 90s. I'll be tracking these down.

Pretty much the entire Ninja Tune label. Wouldn't hurt to check out Stones Throw either.

seconding Nightmares in wax (Smoker's delight and Carboot soul particularly)

also - Amon tobin, Peace orchestra, Cinematic orchestra, The Herbalizer

Boards of Canada

So what happened to these guys? Have they stopped making music? It's been 5 years since their last album!!! Anybody know what is going on with them?

give em a call?

its not their job to provide you music when you want it....

people have lives

idk. they're a secretive bunch; their website hasn't been updated in years!what's bothering me more than BoC is the Avalanches. It's been 10 years since they've released an album!
