Experiences of Addiction and the Medical Profession

Dead British soldiers sign up for death. We should mourn their passing no more than we should somebody who attempted to crawl across a dual carriageway at rush hour.

I suppose you're right. If an undercover went in there n they didn't ask they're arses would be on fire. Still it just meant more lying for me which strangely became rather natural after awhile.

As an addict lying to get what you need is entirely natural. It's not the pharmacist's fault. You (and I and many others) lie to them to get what we need. What we do is not quite illegal but if they (the pharmacist) realises that we are lying to them and still sells to us they are breaking the law so they have to at least make a token attempt to ask why we are buying "certain medications".

The difference being that banks deliberately sold mortgages to "poor people" knowing they would never be able to make the payments then packaged up bundles of worthless loans to sell on to investors without passing on that rather vital piece of information so they could make money from both ends.

What would the equivalent be in terms of the military? Recruiting bodies to soak up bullets they sold to the other side I suppose. Oh, I see where you're coming from ;)

^QFT...

Sorry Sammy but that has to be one of the stupidest posts I've seen for a long time.

Soldiers don't "sign up for death". They sign up to defend their country and the lives and liberties of its citizens. Without them how much freedom so you think you'd have today?... Roughly non.

It may be "right on" for people of certain political persuasions to mock and even denigrate our armed forces but see how far we would have gotten without them. You wouldn't even have the freedom of speech to make that statement.

Some of the wars our soldiers have fought in in recent times may have been unpopular but they don't choose them.....and they certainly don't "sign up for death".

You are an idiot. That's some proper sixth former politics.

No, my dear, it was drunken bigotry. ;)

My feelings remain the same. As for all this bullshit about 'defending your country'?

If you think NATO armies are there for the purpose of defending sovereign nations, then you're either deluded, or thick enough that your death would be a boon for the gene pool.

This has nothing to do with being 'right on'. Do you have any idea of my political persuasion anyway? I support armed struggle in certain contexts. Just not corporate neo-imperialism.

Unfortunately that's not always feasible. Out here in the sticks you don't necessarily get a choice cos there is only one available - particularly if you don't drive.

Fair point well put. :\

My brother in law died two years ago from a brain tumour. Despite many trips to his GP, all they ever said was 'its just a headache, take some paracetamol'

Fuck sake. Sorry to hear that.

FUBAR I can't find the post that Felix quoted, to quote myself but that's disgraceful conduct. I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. Too many GPs these days are failing to act when it co
Es to cancer n people either die or have a worst time as it's spread or whatever. Your story isn't the first n it's alarming if a patients comes in with continuous headaches surely this should be a red flag to refer the patient on for further tests.

The sodliers debate is, in my opinion, a bit more complicated than that, Sammy G. What's your thoughts of world war 2 n soddliers fighting then? Would you rather they didn't? Do you think we'd all be alive now? If yes, do we see us all living lives in freedom?

Mods: just wondering, as this really is Pagey's thread n she may need this for support with what's going on for her, could we not split this off into a NHS / GP discussion thread???? Would be interesting to have some sort of thread dedicated to health profession discussion treatment with the nature of this website. What do you think????

NATO didn't exist during WWII. It's an entirely different ball-game. You could argue that imperialism was still the root cause, but it's not quite of the same stripe.

In any case, my family was neutral and living in a country which was still under de facto occupation, so the 'freedom' which you cherish would not have been relevant in their case.

Fuck sake. Sorry to hear that.

Thanks mate. All I was trying to illustrate was that my (admittedly poor) opinion of doctors/gps is not derived from one bad experience, rather a lifetime of totally horrendous experiences. Another that springs to mind was when my mum had a miscarriage and the surgeon left a load of bandages sewn inside her. She was lucky not to get septicemia. Either my family is just extremely unlucky, or this is a shocking representation of the quality of some medical professionals. However, I would still defend the NHS to the hilt.
