Today is exactly 2 years and one day since I had the really big surgery to construct my j-pouch. The day after the surgery, full of optimism about what it would allow me to do, I registered to the the Great South Run in 2014, which is exactly 10 miles. I seem to remember setting myself a goal of 100 minutes too.
Of course, life doesn't always work out as you plan and instead I had nine months off work sick, six hospitalisations, three surgeries, and a permanent stoma.
But this morning I wanted to prove to myself that although things might get in the way of your plans, if you keep on trying, you will get there eventually. So I got up and ran 10 miles (nearly twice as far as I've ever run in my life before) and surprised myself by being able to keep going without having to stop and walk at all. Completed the run in 89 minutes and 55 seconds.
Feeling pretty pleased with myself to be honest
