Dr Tom is very sorry to hear Dxxx is such a hard and lonely place. He was a lost but very bright young boy who I had met while going through some personal changes and tax troubles that ended a wonderfull life in Florda. all things are lssons and even though this is harsh, being deluded to think there is a better place(and of course there is) GOD made us so great, we waste so much fighting, killing and YES doing to many drugs....

Dxxx gilr finally gave up on him when oxycontin became his only love... She was teh cuttest rave bunny and smart too!

We had some good times together and like Luna and I, we survived the STUPID amounts of DRUGS to learn that love is more important than another GOOD time:)

I have seen god, met the devils and KNOW we are living a sometimes painfull dream...

Dxxx will awake in a new place, another chance with a better purpose...

NO life is expendable, some do more than others but keep the faith, know in self and god, WE SHALL prevail and others of dark heart shall soon be changed or fed to Amutt, our family pet...

LOVE

all this talk about regretting our shoulda/coulda/woulda's with Dave comes off as really patronizing....
It had to go to the extreme: grazing in the shadow of death, for everyone to come out here and finally praise/acknowledge Dave?
I wonder how he is going to recieve all this. I think he's going to get the same impression, though.

he used to tell me how he'd get the most awful criticism from members here, that would just annoy and disturb him endlessly because it was too difficult to deal with, considering how much effort he put into the forums, and how much he HAD to in order to maintain his status thereon. It was a big responsibility.

Unreal

I've been a big lurker for almost 2 years... and even posted under a friends account time and again [until the bastard made me get my own ;)]

Point being, many of those posts were (personally) unprovoked attacks on PhreeX. Those days gone, and it's still of the reality that our personas don't blend well... but I must honestly say

I attack those I respect a lot. Although it's aggravating to not consider confronting those who are rather abrasive, it becomes even moreso when the individual clearly has a remarkable mind. As argued, irresponsibility coupled with brilliance is still of deep concern in this case.

PhreeX obviously has a dark side which makes for this intriguing blend, one I don't care to know too much of - as we all have our own, to whatever degree our experiences will lend.

Whatever point I might have been making ultimately comes down to my sincerest wishes for his full health, and all hope directed towards his new life. Dave, I don't know how this hardship might change you, and what your future plans for life may become... but I wish you all the best.

Make those who love you prouder than they already are

He is doing great now! Unable to speak but can write. I would expect a full recovery now, just due to the fact that there seems to be minimal brain damage. I would estimate that he is about 50% right now and progressing every day.

Last night he wrote that he wanted us to give him a ride home. It was sad, but just the fact that he was even able to write stuff amazed me to no end. They were supposed to take the trach out today, but i dont know the current status on that. Hopefully they took it out and his is talking.

Im sure there will be more good news coming in the next few days (even possibly getting out of the hosptial :) )

Wow I spent a hour and change reading this whole post.

I never met, nor even knew the name Phreex. But I have a couple things to say.

HELL FUCK YEAH! This is what i'm talking about. People coming together and making a miracle happening. '

YESSSS!

Hell yeah.

Reading this makes me want to scream for joy (his recovery)

Its not your time bro.... its not your time...... the world...the universe.....will not let you go.

AND FOR SURE WE, the BL's will not let you go.

Come back soon man..... come back soon.

May God grant you speedy recovery.

Dave

Hey everyone-it's been awhile since I've been on here. Things have been really busy right now. I am starting to get back to school and work-which sucks ass. Dave is doing much better. He's writing and walking now with a walker. He seems to be the same old moody Dave we know and love. He has started asking the nurses for pain medicine however, like adavin..etc.. I don't know if those are bad things or good. I hope he had lost all desire to dabble with drugs...but he seems pretty fixed on trying to keep getting pain medicine. He has been trying to call someone from his room recently. However, he cannot talk yet with his trache...so he holds the phone and mouths words to it. I don't know if there's anyone on the line or not. Things are still Iffy with that. There is now talk about changing Dave to a rehabilitation hospital soon -since hes making such great progress...and then hopefully to a drug rehab. We don't have money-and he has no insurance..so things are still undecided. For his well-being....I hope to get him into drug rehab soon. I spoke with someone on the phone the other day-and they said that Dave might not have even gone through withdrawel yet-since he's been out. I was wondering if anyone had any info. on that topic. I don't really know about the likliness of a user returning to his old ways after a near death experience...but I do know the drugs he was taking were probably some of the worst ones to get addicted to. I think right now I would just like to learn as much as possible about all that. I guess just keep me posted..Ill continue to check the boards. Thank you again for all the love and support

Glad to hear such a significant improvement again...as far as the pain meds go for that you mentioned, you said he asked for ativan. This is actually a benzo, commonly used for controlling anxiety, panic attacks, as well as a sleep aid. So, if he actually did ask for this by name in regards to his pain that makes me wonder as well about his mental state (as you were mentioning regarding the phone incident), b/c he obviously remembers the drug name, but the it's use maybe not...but let's hope not and keep hoping he will continue to progress as quick as he has been.

that was my thought when i read that he asked for ativan by name... i just have the feeling that dave remembers damn well its not an opiate, wanting it simply for its intended use.

To try to answer your questions... Provided his brain is now fully active phisical opiate withdrawl should set in pretty quick. The doctor may have meant that since he has been out he may have to deal with a lot of the psycological issues that go with addiction. However, as weird as this sounds, he is probably dealing with so much other pain and feelings, the mental aspect of the opiate withdrawls may never enter into the picture.

I think I speak for nearly everyone when I say, "Give us an address, we'll send money." If we all chip in a bit we can take some of the edge off the cost.

As for an user wanting to resume using after a near-deth experience, such a desire is not an extreme rarity. If almost dying set off some sort of magic light in the brain and now the user finally wants to seriously recover, then s/he probably isn't very likely to use (at least for a little while). But just going to the edge of the grave can't reverse the neurological changes that result from addiction, and therefore even users committed to recovery still must suffer withdrawals/cravings; those users less committed to recovery will be more prone to give in. Not exactly encouraging, but remember that every day bunches of people start on the road to recovery and succeed and keep hope.

There are several rehabilitational services that are income based. Being as he has no income and no insurance the cost would be minimal if any. Also try to get him out of the hospital ASAP (without risking his health of course). Hospitals will bill several thousand dollars a DAY. Esp. when he was in the ICU.
