I know the amount of posts has started winding down, but ashlie id like to thank you for the updates

Yes, thanks Ashlie for the updates. :) I find myself clicking on this thread constantly all day to see if there is any good news regarding Dave. I'm so happy that although he has amnesia, he seems to have all his faculties intact. I will continue to keep him in my prayers until he has fully recovered. It seems that is not far away.

More good news!! David understands what we're saying. The doctor asked Dave to grab his hand..and he did. The doctor asked dave to stick out his tongue-and he did..so he understands us! However....after my mom had been holding his hand all day in the dark room...the doctors turned on the light...Dave looked at my mom..and took his hand away. This happened two more times. After a while my mom asked him if he knew who she was...and he just looked around the room -like a scared lil rabbit. Finally she said, "Dave I'm your mommy"...Dave looked like he had no clue. So, he does have amnesia. For those of you who visit...tell him who you are...b/c he's kinda freaked out by it all. Other than that--Dave watched cartoons all day..and continues to improve..his breathing is still weak...but he's doin good. Thanks to everyone again
Love
Ashlie

Ash, that sounds like some serious progress... i am very happy to hear that he's getting better.
is there any news on the front of the potential brain damage? do you have the results to that other brain scan they were going to run on him?
i truly wish for your brother to recover, but to also make a recovery worth living for...
best of luck, and love to all your family...
Frank

I'm praying that Dave/PhreeX NEVER EVER returns to the needle. No matter how much he said that it was the only way of life for him, being an addict is such a sad way to live. If he really does have amnesia, I say better for him not to remember the life drugs gave him.
Ashlie, I feel terrible not only for you and your family, but for ALL the families who have an addict among them. Everyday I feel sorry for my mother, father, and my little brother who were affect by my addiction. And everyday I am thankful that I've somehow managed to be clean for a month. It scares me to know how very easily I could be in the same situation Dave is in now, with my brother in your shoes. That's why no matter how much Phreex pissed the fuck out of me--I still pray that DAVE will live a long, SOBER, HAPPY life.

Anyways, I don't really want to drag this thread off topic.

Then DON'T. How hard is it to start a different topic.
To Dave's family- don't be too hard on the docs. Trust me (I've lived through this read through the thread) false hope is one of the most damaging things at a time like this. I saw it literally tear some people I love apart and it wasn't along the seams if you get my point. The doctors are being honest and doing all they can. The fact is, we know so little about the brain. I hope they are proven wrong, but don't even bother wasting the energy it takes to even write about the doc- write about Dave- think about Dave. The docs are working hard and doing everything they can- that should be the only thought in your heard about them. The rest of your head should be filled with positive hope and honest assessment of Dave's condition. My love and support go out to you and the rest of your family that whatever happens, you find peace- all of you.
Cheers
doc

i've been checking this thread periodically since the devastating news first appeared. up until now i was too upset and confused to post. i tend to recoil and stay quiet in times of sadness. but i have to say im relieved to hear that dave is making progress. i believe he will make a full recovery, and i hope he kicks for real! thank you ashlie for your updates. you and your family have been admirably tolerant and loving. dave, im not praying for you per se, it seems to passive. im willing you to pull through i guess. im also sending my love.

phreex has made significant contributions to bluelight and odu, becoming the irreverent and sometimes reckless voice of other drugs as it distanced itself from the rest of bluelight. i've been around since the clearinghouse days, before i had any major habits, through the needles and powders and pills, and then making the switch to using no recreational substances. i came to bluelight to learn about harm reduction. especially in other drugs a 'hardcore' attitude developed, with most of its proponents inexperienced and lacking good judgement. phreex educated some and made fun of the rest, but he also did a fair share to encourage it. who didn't crack a wicked grin reading his methlab tales so similar to our own?
phreex, all of these people care about you. i care about you and you don't even know me. hell, even murple is here pulling for you.
everyone can learn, come back and help to teach.

Ashlie:
I used to be an administrator for this board, but quit after getting married and pregnant last year. I knew Dave through this board and its predecessor for a long time before meeting him in person... in fact he and I used to fight like cats and dogs for the longest time, until we really got to know each other.
My husband and I lived in Florida, not far from your folks place, and my husband was one of Dave's best friends - we saw him often, I've even met your parents, and heard stories about you from your brother who was more proud of you than you'll probably ever know.
Dave was one of only a few friends we had in Florida, and probably my husband's closest friend there. I saw the road they were taking and it saddened me. The two of them used to go off together and do god-knows-what while I stayed home and prayed that they made it home alive.
My husband is now dead. Not from drug use, ironically, but gone nonetheless, so I know the pain you are feeling right now, and I'm praying for you and your family. While Dave and my husband did get high together, there were also a lot of times we all hung out sober and I can tell you that your brother is an extremely intelligent, brilliant and witty man. (Of course I'm sure you already know this).
I don't post on this board anymore, and especially not in this forum, except on rare occasions, but I had just spoken to Dave the other day (I believe it was either the day before or the day of his OD) and was wondering why I hadn't heard back... so I checked this forum and was shocked by what I read. All I can do is offer my condolences, my prayers, and an ear if you ever want to talk...
I didn't just know your brother as "PhreeX, the IV drug king" - I also knew him as Dave, your brother. If you ever want to talk, please feel free to get ahold of me. And thank you for keeping everyone here apprised of his progress, I know they care more than you realize.

My mom went this morning to visit Dave. They are now limiting his hours with visitors...and limiting his amount of visitors. He's pretty much in his own mental hell right now- b/c he's starting to realize that he's -well mostly paralyzed....and that he's confused and stuff. The doctors say he might remember his last thoughts before he OD'd -which probably arn't to pleasant. He continues to understand people and stays alert. His heart rate is still up around 133..so he's really stressed...but his blood pressure is good. The doctors never did another EEG. They said that it wasn't necessary b/c they know that their is now brain activity?!? So I don't know. Right now their main concern is his physical health. This is going to be a loooong road for recovery. Hopefully he'll progress.
Someone mentioned they had talked to Dave that week..and had met him and my parents a few times. I am confused though, b/c you said that you met his stepdad- Dave doesn't have a stepdad...both are parents are still together...? Maybe you just heard wrong or somthing? Anyway, that's it for now-I'll keep you guys posted.
-Ashlie
Oh ya- Dr. Groverllor or whatever your name is...If you don't want to read about Dave's situation anymore-..I would reccommend not coming to a site that's made SPECIFICALLY for him! Ya know?!

Ashlie - I know I'm repeating what some others have said but - thanks for all the updates. With everything that's on your mind right now, I know it can't be easy to think about (or do) anything else. I've never met Dave - never actually met anyone on this board - but every night I just can't get him - and you - off my mind. It must be very difficult to reconcile your thoughts about your brother against / with the person known as "phreex" who posted what must be some very upsetting insights into his life and lifestyle. I hope and pray for peace of mind for all of you. How are your parents?

written with the belief that Phreex will read this:
my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family - i do hope you learn from this experience - and see the love that is there for you. the world can be a wonderful place - but it is what you make of it.

Just to clear some things up.
Phreex has not used many/if any street drugs in years. (that includes herion)
Also, everyone must know that HE would have been the FIRST to say don't blame the drugs. Know that we can't blame the drugs. We can blame the user, society, and the government (for their lies). We can thank the educators like Dave, bluelight, dancesafe, and other support programs.
I see alot of people saying that any drugs use is bad/illegal/harmful. As much as you people know about drugs I know that they aren't as safe as you would like to believe.
I know that there is a difference between using and abusing, but it is a fine line. Just because you are using moderatly dosen't mean that you can't/won't suffer some negative effects.
If you are ABUSING drugs know that you aren't only harming yourself, but your family and friends. I have several people in my life that I worry about on a daily basis. I even begin to hate them for their self destructive behavior. It is much easier to hate them for their choices than to accept that they are slowly killing themselves.
Addiction is a disease, but you cannot help someone who dosen't want to help themselves. (I've been dealing with that all my life).
I know this message might not go over smoothly. But it needs to be said. I have been dealing with addicts/drug abusers since I was 6-7 yrs old. They don't change unless they want to. I know lots of people who use/abuse drugs. I stopped using because I couldn't handle shit like this (od's, depression, etc.).
Just remember, it can happen to anyone, it can happen under any circumstance, it can happen no matter what the drug, or how much of it.
Please know that there are people who care. People who have been thru what some of you are going thru. People who have made dramatic changes in their life because they saw the error of their ways.
* I am saying drug use has negative effects.
* I am not saying everyone will experience these effects.
If you need help or wish just to talk dont hesitate to ask me. Thru all my life crap I have learned much, and wish to share.
Please BE SAFE. I know I cannot stop anyone from using, but please take care of yourselves.
Samantha

First of all, I would just like to give my best wishes to PhreeX and his family and I do hope that he makes the best recovery as fast as possible. However, I do have a question - From what I've read I assume that PhreeX is an opiate addict. Since he has been forced to stop using within the past week is he also experiencing withdrawl at the same time as all this?

Definitely some good news recently! As ever Ashlie, make sure to keep us informed on your brother's condition. Much appreciated!
andx: I was thinking the same thing about the opiate withdrawls.
If there is a bright side to this at all, it's that Phreex(Dave) was reportedly uncounscious through the toughest first few days without opiates. It's still probably going to be quite a struggle to overcome his old habits though, and he's not out of the woods yet as far as withdrawls go. I pray he has the strength to overcome this, and come back stronger than ever.

i liked phreex. his posts were always funny. he was cool, on internet. in reality? how the fuck would i know?
but i worry about some of my heroin addicted friends everyday, and that, for me, includes some of the people i hold closest to my heart.
and thats why i even bother posting in this one.

Ashlie, tell your brother that he has my thoughts, and that he had get better real fast. I don't really know what else to say... I'm not a real emotional person. I really hope he makes it out okay....
