I may be the subject of scrutiny for this, but I do think that the high from starting fluid derived ether is tragicly overlooked. The crude isolation process is done (as many of you know) by mixing with water, then keeping only the top layer that seperates. Though I am sure of impurities, I think the resulting product is predominately ether.
As I qoute from my American Medical Association Encyclopedia of Medicine, "Ether is among the safest of all anesthetics, but it is so flammable that even static electricity can cause it to explode". Oh yea....thats the drawback.

I don't know man, I'm a little sketch on doing anything I would mix up at home. Especially if you say that the result is predominatly ether, you think. You might wanna look at what the effects of the impurities are, and save the production of chemicals to the "professionals". Just a thought, but I don't know dude, starting fluid?

Yeah not to mention that it boils at below body temperature, forms peroxides under the influence of air and light, and if absolutely dry can auto-ignite just by being shaken in a container! Sure it's a great solvent and anaesthetic but not something I would want to handle without a fume hood.

Maybe its like lye and hydrochloric acid.....separate they are deadly...together harmless....
And yes, supposedly a possible contaminant "benzene" is pretty carcinogenic, but its also supposedly water soluble. Yet i'd wager the fumes at the gas station have more benzene than water separated ether. If your really afraid, lab grade diethyl-ether isn't to hard to find.....and worth the trouble. Having tried both, the starting fluid derived is just as good.

You should always be sure of the chemicals you are ingesting. To wager soemthing is not the right way to go about something. A lot of people do great harm to themselves by experimenting with things they "think" they know about. I'm not knockin' you man, but if you can get a pure version, isn't it a better wager to go with something that you know is made right. Not to mention the whole carcinogen thing, doesn't really sound all that yummy.
I don't know, when people start talking about making things at home with stuff they find in the garage always reminds me of some after school special, I can picture it now..

I nabbed some ether from my college chem lab, and it really wasn't that fun. Decent body buzz, but it tasted/smelled like utter ass, and it was horribly addictive in the short-term, same way as crack. Friends and I were just gonna try a little bit, and we ended up huffing every last bit we had.

i've made and used it before, but i have to do it outside because i'm terrified of pulling a Richard Pryor.

I think this "extraction" is highly unsafe, as in at least the two times I have tried it, even though I let the stuff sit overnight and only even poured only half the top layer of ether off, the rags would still wreak of petrol spirits.
The high had characteristics that made me believe it was more than the ether getting me high. This included seeing some colors/patterns and the several day long hangovers following use feeling completely burnt out.
Not to mention it's not really too much fun anyways. Has a lot of dissociative qualities comparable to ketamine and Salvia without any mind-expanding feelings.
You feel detached and your brain just stop controlling your body as it should.
Maybe lab grade ether is different, but I didn't find either brand of starter fluid extract to be something I'd recommend to people. Infact, I'd instead say "don't bother".

Anyone who has had medical grade isoflurane could appreciate the similarities of easily accessible starting fluid ether. No, its not the safest thing to do....but then again if your huffing solvents that issue is not of greatest concern. But of the solvents, I would definately consider this one the most benign.
And, NO, like nitrous, ether DOESNT get you high by simply "cutting off air to your brain". And by the way soviet, lab grade ether is just as trippy as starting fluid ether. In fact, I could not tell the two apart. For a home high, I think it far surpasses a handfull of benadryl or nutmeg.

Oh hell, if you're going to huff garage chemicals then go ahead, have a zip-dang-whiz of a good time, why even bother to extract the ether from all those other wonderfull smelling petrol componets? All that fun stuff just adds to your rockt ride to the moon!
WOOHOO!
C'mon, go buy some fucking weed if you're that desperate! And if you know how I feel about weed that should tell you how I feel about huffing!

There truly wouldnt be enough opiates for me to have Phreex job.. It seems that either desparety or the lack of intelligence has hit an all time high on OD.....

benzene is highly carcinogenic. i work at a chemical plant and the amount of protective gear they make you wear when dealing with that stuff is enormous. supplied air/scba, etc.
