Exactly. I think at this point the main logical choice would be to remove all previous so called IT manangment staff and just simply hire someone, it doesn't cost much over someone with universal knowledge about software/hardware.

Replay the community in either vanilla forums or dicourse and you're set.

Plus you'll never fix Google searches, is not done directly by them but by their indexing options within their servers. So no matter what, is still the same shit.

The money here should come from Australia gov or city webs, I guess the community should be reconized as harm-reduction and be offered some money for hosting/maintenance. (improvement).

Discourse in terms of online forums, is the future, in a world where cybersecurity will require skills to adapt.

is a reason why I think the forum should move to Discourse.

I had a client in a similar situation and it was mainly platform issues.
Your reasoning is built upon a false premise.

The issue is not Xenforo. The issue is caused by overly aggressive mod_security settings by the hosting company. I've changed the settings before to resolve this, and include a note in the config files, but someone overwrote it anyway.

Feel free to contact me privately, and we can discuss "so called IT management". The hosting company caused these issues, not the IT people who must, for now, work within the framework they provide.

I've worked with, managed and written forum technology/software since the mid-1990s, and worked with most forum platforms. I can tell you from experience, there are issues with both those forum platforms you recommend, and they are not a panacea. And neither are immune to issues with overly aggressive WAF settings.

It's easy to talk about solutions, but when you don't even know the actual problem, it's also easy for you to be wrong.

Xenforo has a great security track record. Have you seen the Discourse vulnerability list over the years?

Plus XenForo is not made by my knowledge, unverified atm, still maintained by vBulletin ex devs. And overall XF will become a thing of past in less than five years.

If you talk to Xenforo's staff, they'll happily let you know the business is growing and stronger than error.

DM's should work fine again. I've set the immutable bit on the setting file temporarily so they don't change the setting back, and will let the folks at the hosting company know not to touch it. Unfortunately, the previous person there I talked to (who was very good) passed away.

Thank you so much Ken!

Works great. Thanks a lot for your help!

Ken, I tell you one thing.

Nothing is perfect but my area of expertise does surpass these amateur thing such as coding or installing forums, my money come from other serious issues which for legal reason I keep personal.

Discourse is more adaptable to modern ethernet, and XF will be dead in that time frame or hosted on non-important forums.

More and more let go of phpBB because while it did build the web, it cannot continue. Discourse is also hosting imense companies such as Asus, Intel, Blizzard.. so on

and what else oh, cloudflare yes..

Yeah guess it has a security thing over phpBB but again, I never did this in person because my work involves and covers 10 times the cancer of working on such useless stuff. These are rookie-entry level areas, I only had to read and carry the knowledge for "IF", a very big if. Recently, I had a client at my website company requiring attention and don't wasn't treated as professional manner since it was a personal issues.

I can say this last thing, is someones forum has to, if that someone nods his head at everything they hear, that's their problem and the consequences come in forms like this.

Have a great coffee ken, bye take care. Nice to talk ;)

assumptions and insults not really helping here.

dm issue is now fixed.

thanks to those who contributed civilly and with facts.
