Erowid Reports HIGHLY EXAGGERATED?

i believe some of them exaggerated and some of them just placebo. but i always rely on the old reports. new erowid generation really suck imo and they also dunno how to write down a proper trip report.

I find many if not most Erowid trip reports not worth reading.
Too many "I don't have a clue about anything and the trip didn't help me past that point" and waaaay too many "I want to get fucked up and don't care how, but preferably by eating, snorting, shooting and smoking a stupid mix of too many drugs in an even stupider place".

It's too easy to read a bunch of reports and believe that drugs are only used by dummies, junkies, kids and losers.

Erowid is supposed to give people helpful information but most of the trip reports are anything but, especially for non-users.
Pisses me off btw. Very. :X They should know better.

there's a tonne of really bad / exaggerated / bollox reports on erowid.
i've submitted a few that never got put up so i just gave up after reading a good portion of them...
absolute rubbish. lots of knobs, lots of philosophy students, lots of [words defy]..

- edit -

i mean for fucks sake : smoking coffee

LMAO here's from the coffee smoking report:

I thought nothing would happen and would most likely just end up with a bad taste in my mouth, But I felt like this was a good way to waste another sleepless night. I felt completely normal for about 5 minutes after I had smoked the Caffeine Cigarette, But all of a sudden I felt as though I had just drank a Two Litre of Coca Cola. I looked in the mirror... and to my surprise, almost to my horror, I realized my pupils were dilated exactly as much as when I had dropped a Cap of E the week before. After that, I started to feel really aggressive and invulnerable. As my energy increased, I wrote another Two verses to some Piano Music I've been writing. I felt awesome, And it was definitely a pleasant surprise for someone who thought they would have to sit around all night watching movies for fun.

here's the smoking one I was talking about earlier:

http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=5711

I'm writting this for two reasons 1) There's no tobacco experiences on here 2) I think that there are some misconceptions about smoking.

The first time I tried smoking I was 15. I had heard stories from parents and teachers about how if i tried smoking i would get sick, throw up and hate it. I always figured this seemed reasonable, considering you're inhaling smoke and chemicals into your lungs. But one day I decided i had to see for myself. I stole a cigarette from my father who smokes about two packs a day.

One day when my parents were out I went outside and light up. I took a few puffs in my mouth to ease into it. Then I inhaled. As i felt the smoke go down into my chest I thought all the warnings about how smoking would get me sick should have been heeded but i didnt get sick. I inhaled again and felt the smoke creep into my lungs but it wasn't a bad feeling, so I smoked the rest of the cigarette. Afterward I felt good. Not high or anything, just a good mood.

I have smoked many times since then but I remain unaddicted. And I think thats the correct application of nicotine and tabacco products. Use them in moderation when you want to relaxe or ease up and it can be a rewarding, relatively harmless experience.

I hope this can help anyone who plans on trying smoking and would like to know what to expect.

i haven't read this whole thread and i think this is pointless to argue about because drugs affect everyone so differently and people experience life so differently. i mean, you can have an intense experience without even using a drug so why couldn't a drug serve as a catalyst for an extremely intense experience?

of course it's possible some of the reports are exaggerated, one of the things i don't like about erowid is i don't understand how they select which reports to publish. their reports are extremely far from a random sample. that's why you're better off coming to bluelight to learn about many drugs. of course we're not a random sample either, but i think we are overall much closer than erowid.

but if you ask me, it's the old time writers and scholars who exaggerate the affects of drugs and not erowid users. read "confessions of an opium eater" or similar articles written hundreds of years ago about peoples experiences with drugs.

Some of them are just corny though like I read one written by a kid in early highschool who stole one of his mom's cigs and thought it was an intense experience! LMAO, do we really need a report like that? Some of the caffeine ones are funny too when people over exaggerate the effects of caffeine.

nicotine can produce extremely intense experiences. native americans used to use it as a hallucinogen. as a non smoker, i find that if i smoke a cigarette and inhale deeply like one would smoke weed, the affects are extremely intense. i have fallen forward, lost complete motor coordination control and had near out of body experiences on nicotine. but it's also really nauseating and unpleasant, which is why people don't use it that way often.

I found that erowid REALLY needs to be updated in many of its chemical pages, most of them are SO empty.

Wow. You answer more questions with questions than anyone I've ever seen.

Dude, i totally tripped with socrates man, it was crazy. Im still waiting for erowid to submit the report

Haha, as crazy as it sounds, caffeine can be pretty serious shit in large doses.

One of the funniest and stupidest things I've ever done was back when I was like 20. I was smoking a few bowls and drinking coffee. A lot of coffee. Like, 10 or 11 cups of really strong coffee. Over the course of 3 and half hours or so.

Well, 3 hours after my last cup (probably 4 hours after my last bowl) I was still racing and my heart was POUNDING. Then I started getting light headed and felt like I was going to pass out!

No joke, and yes I was quite a dumbass, I had my mother take me to the emergency room at 6am because I started graying out and felt allll sorts of fucked up.

Lucky for me the emergency room was pretty much empty. I talked to a really laid back doctor and told him the straight up truth. He took my pulse and it was some ridiculous shit, I don't remember specifically. He told me the feeling that I was about to pass out was caused by hyperventilating because I felt like I wasn't getting enough air no matter how much I inhaled. He told me to just go home and concentrate on breathing slowly. He ripped up the thing he had written my information on and told me to try to have a good morning.

So if you're a complete idiot and drink too much coffee and it's too strong, you might feel pretty fucked up.

Haha, smoking it doesn't sound too effective though. It would probably take a lot to do something, if it was possible at all.

I've never been able to write a trip report simply because I can't find the words to describe my trips most of the time. I was there and knew what I was feeling and that's all that really matters to me.

I do enjoy reading them and admire those that can write them just because I know it's hard to describe your thoughts and feelings when you're under the influence of certain drugs.

umm wtf how is that exaggerated at all? he just said nicotine could be relaxing. my own experiences on nicotine have been way more intense than that (as i outlined above before reading your last post).

I didn't say that it was exaggerated, I do think that this report is rather pointless though.

I know a 9 year old girl, whose mom was a using uppers hardcore while she was pregnant with her. Now even if she eats/drinks ANY product with sugar--even ONE GRAM of sugar, she gets SUPER twacked out crazy style. I made the mistake of giving her a piece of gum with 1g sugar in it, and holy shit, nonstop energy for 3 hours. I've never seen anything like it.

Haha, nice "tweekers mutation", that's not even bad thing. =D

About this thread. It's so ridiculous and idiotic that you tell that I can't get more high of something than you... If something dosenät work for you as strongly as for someone else, it dosen't mean that he is lying. 8)

Well for one thing, Erowid claims to not be interested in run of the mill "we took ____ and this is what we did after that" type reports...so it is possible that only the bizarre, extraordinary reports are published.

1. Pretty much anyone can go and send a trip report to Erowid. There's bound to be a few like that.
2. Maybe these "exaggerators" really had these intense experiences and that is what drove them to write these reports.

I concur that many of the reports seem exaggerated. However, who am I too critic someone else’s subjective experience? If anything, I feel envious when I read these reports… Perchance it’s the fact that I seem to have an obscene tolerance to all drugs, even a new drug I’ve never tried before that is not cross-tolerant with drugs I’ve taken in the past.

I remember when I had my wisdom teeth taken out at 14 years of age. The doc was astounded that it took three shots, rather than one, to get me under (I had little to no tolerance at the time). I explicitly remember waking up during the surgery. After it was all done, the doc commented, “Do you know how much money we pumped into your veins?” Apparently they had to put me under an additional 6 times during the surgery. Hell, differences in individual biochemistry.

On a sidenote, after reading Xorkoth’s post that erowid needed more report triagers, I put in an app. Even though I’m quite busy working on my PhD and balancing that with family life, I love discussing drugs so much that I’m willing to set aside the time ;)

i also love the ones where people claim to get high off valerian root and crap(and not thaT high a dose either)
Yeah, I tried that a few nights ago.. 3,180 mg and nothing. Didn't even make me tired. All I felt was a little goofy (probably just my head but who knows) and had the nastiest burps. Imagine tasting what valerian smells like. Sick.

A lot is definitely exaggerated on erowid though, I agree.

I read some that were funny like one where Murple is tripping on AMT and he says to himself, "Why the fuck do I take all of these drugs? My life is empty!"

http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=1758

The example you cited is interesting, in that it contributes to a larger life story of the individual himself. I've read through most of Murples submissions to Erowid and there is a definite personality shift from his first -> final trip report. Possibly more interesting than the submissions themselves.

IMO erowid can pretty useful - for example in a situation where you have the opportunity to try a substance that you're completely unfamiliar with and have no idea what to expect. Had it not been for erowid (and bluelight) I wouldn't have given ketamine a second chance after a clueless first encounter many years ago.
