English Premier League football

yeah, will be good to see van Persie and Adebayor getting up to some nasty stuff up front... and we have to take into account that Chelsea are over-rated shite too ;)

will be good if liverpoll draw this sunday and pompey beat tottenham to take 4th place, and then when pompey beat arsenal on boxing day we will have to start talking about the big 5, heheehhehe

I'm stoked that fat ugly cock sucking Sam Alladyce has been sacked by the magpies and his finesseless style of overly defensive play has been exposed.

Boo to you Sammy.

Roman is looking less and less interested in Chelsea by the day, I wouldn't be suprised if he sells them off soon enough, no real success, especially not when you compare dollar for dollar what Man U and Arsenal have achieved, plus a bunch of over paid wankers with ego's and attitudes to match

^^

Yeah pretty much.

As much as I don't like seeing teams go into financial crisis, I'd love to see Chelsea become the next Leeds ;)

Got the pleasure of watching Arsenals reserves hammer Sheffield Utd (my uni team) a few months ago and wow, they are some talented kids up close.

This season though the premiership is Utd's for the taking. Arsenal are going to suffer big time without Toure and I can't see Chelski competing without Essien and Drogba..

My god Newcastle got a pantsing... they somehow managed to keep their defense together for the first half - Rooney having 4 shots blocked by Given, but then they just fell apart.

The free kick that Ronaldo got to set up the first goal was soft, but his execution was exquisite.

With all the penalties that were turned down, and one dodgy offside call that probably would have led to a Michael Owen goal, this should have ended up like 9 - 1 or something, but hey, I'm sure they'll be happy with 6 - 0 ;)

I'd love to see Arsenal winning the League, but it will be a struggle. They are going to drop points - but then Man U will probably drop points as well. If nothing else, it should be an interesting race.

I doubt that Chelsea can pull anything off to take the league, and I hope they crash and burn.

Its a shame that Pompey had an awful festive season and seem to be making it quite difficult for themselves to qualify for Europe. They were flying quite high, but have had some average performances recently and need to pull the finger out, especially at home.

Its still too early to be looking at relegation, but Derby have a mountain to climb, and I don't think that Paul Jewell can get them over the line, even though he managed a last gasp Wigan survival last season.

Fulham are in trouble, but can turn it around... will be really good to see Jimmy Bullard up and running again.

CB :)

I wouldn't write off Chelsea just yet. They may be chasing the points at the moment but the bandages are coming off at just the right time.

Although they would say they would want Drogba back now, I think the African tournament is perfect stage to find some form and fitness. You wouldn't expect him to find his feet in the Seconds (they would want to see some return on their dosh) so this is better than ideal. Anelka could have 2 in 10minutes. He should shine with a bit of quality around him again. Can't belive he is still only 28 8o

Arsenal show signs of fatigue and could do with a few injured players returning.

As much as Ronaldo grates on me, i can't deny his class. You can't fluke that many penalties ;)

^^^Me too and three

arsenal have a tricky run home too, not impossibly hard, they just don't have a real cake walk, Man U and Chelsea at home, 3 or 4 sides battling relegation, Tottenham at home.

I don't think they're showing signs of fatigue, just because they've draw a game against a struggling side, and they're mostly young doesn't constitute fatigue, now if they string 4 or five average games together, then maybe, but they've got the perfect tonic for a poor performance this weekend, a struggling Fulham and the return of Van Persie, and as far as injury goes, they only have 1 or 2 injured first teamers ATM...

Well to revive an interesting thread with the pointy end of the season upon us lets have at it boys!!

Firstly, what a shame to see Arsenal have an awful run of draws to lose their lead then any shot at the championship. They were playing well, had very few injuries (van Persie, Flamini etc were back from injury...) but they just couldn't keep it up.

After Man U's awful game against Blackburn last weekend it looks like we could be up for quite an interesting finish at the top, as Chelsea seem to be doing something right (even though I hate them ;)). I really really don't want them to win the league, and although Man U still have to travel to Stamford Bridge, they have a vastly superior goal difference which effectively gives them an extra point. So, the league is entirely in Man U's hands, if they don't slip up, they'll win. If they take their foot off the gas, especially with Champions League semis coming up (although both Chelsea and Liverpool have the same...) it could really go down to the wire.

I'm not particularly happy that Everton seem to have died away just at the same time that Liverpool got their shit together which has put 4th place and a Champions League spot virtually out of Everton's reach :( but they look a dead cert for 5th and I think the only(?) UEFA cup spot now (not including the Inter toto cup, because Tottenham won the League Cup, guaranteeing them a spot in UEFA Cup, and the winner of the FA cup also gets a spot...) so that's gonna be interesting...

The battle for 6th will be interesting as well with Villa hitting their straps with 15 goals in the last 3 games to move up the table, Man City had a win on the weekend to stop a run of average form, while Blackburn are looking strong but will have a lot of work to do. Pompey will really have to do something useful in the next couple of weeks to stay where they are. My pick is Villa 6th with Pompey 7th.

Now for the relegation battle...

Bolton FINALLY had a win and are out of the bottom 3 for the first time in about half a season, while Birmingham have slipped back into the mire. I can't really see Birmingham doing enough to avoid the drop.

Reading are on a shocking run of form at the moment, and after looking safe about 8 games ago are now right in the thick of the relegation battle after losing 8 in a row.

Fulham could potentially make it up as they have Jimmy Bullard and Brian McBride back from injury and back in form, and although they didn't really look that great against Liverpool on the weekend, against easier opposition they should create more opportunities. Desperation also makes a team fight harder. They are going to have to win at least 2 of their last 3 matches, but I think they can do it.

Derby are gone.

I reckon Wigan and Sunderland are safe. Wigan thanks to a few useful contributions from the likes of Scharner and Heskey, and Sunderland from the pure mongrel of Roy Keane... who'd really like to get on the bad side of that man...?

My tips for relegation: Derby, Birmingham and Reading/Fulham

Reading/Fulham will depend on who wants it more and can get their game going at the right time.

What do you all think??

CB :)

I still think pompey have enough to get 5th or at least 6th, we will no doubtedly finish above blackburn and with villa and everton playing each other next i predict a villa win, if pompey win their next game then there will only be 1 point separating 5th to 7th with 2 games left and portsmouth can easily win their last 2 games to snatch 5th spot from evertons hands

Nostro.... fucking.....damas!

Oh and I love Ginga's..... especially ones named Riise :D

well what a weekend...

The fight at the bottom is getting really interesting now what with Fulham getting a win at Man City and the proverbial 6-pointer at home to Birmingham coming up this week... oooooh its gonna be close.

With Bolton and Reading both getting draws, its closing up.I still reckon its gonna be Derby, Birmingham and Reading to go down. Bolton have a superior goal difference at the moment so they are a slight favourite to stay up, but you never know.

Now West Ham yet again have a chance to deny Man U the title as they travel to Old Trafford this week. West Ham often save their best for Man U, so that will be really interesting, and what with Chelsea travelling to Newcastle, a game where anything could happen as Newcastle have finally hit some form, it may be that Arsenal aren't actually out of the title race!! Ahhh the mathematical possibilities!!

Portsmouth have lost any chance at 5th or 6th now with their dissapointing loss at home to Blackburn, and with Villa drawing, Everton are looking safer in 5th, although they do travel to Arsenal this weekend - and with the Toffees current form, I can't see them getting anything out of that match. Villa are at home to Wigan - who are on a bit of roll recently and are about as safe as they can be. But they will want to make absolutely sure of it with at least a point. Scharner in the heart of defense has been rock solid so will make it difficult for Carew, Agbonlahor and Young to break through, but I doubt we will see a Wigan clean sheet this week. Villa currently have a superior goal difference to Everton (+22 to +21) and if they win and Everton lose, then they will push up into 5th and an automatic UEFA cup spot. That's going to be another interesting battle, and may come down to the final day of the season.

All in all, the last 2 weeks are shaping up to be very interesting indeed.

Off to the pub in 45 minutes to watch United - West Ham, woot!

A great end to the season, though with even Wenger backing United, I think we will do it...
