English Premier League football

The Blackburn goal was incredibly soft. Still, they did hit the bar as well (Ryan Nelson, woot!) so it's not like they totally didn't deserve to get the draw.

It's quite a good season so far, IMHO. Good performances from Portsmouth and Reading, the big teams having a few problems (well, mainly United and Spurs to be fair). Some more open play from Chelsea.

I can't believe United have only two points and one goal; they must have had 60 shots at goal over three matches (and then they concede goals when their opponents only have 5 or 6). Still, playing some very nice football in the buildup.

how fucking ridiculously soft and bullshit was the penalty for Chelsea against Liverpool!!!! Chelsea did not deserve to get ANYTHING from that game. Useless twat of a ref.

Man U really struggle without Ronaldo and Rooney... will be interesting for the next little while...

^^

Yeah I read that in the paper about half an hour after making that post ;)

Its always a good thing when refs and people in general can admit that they were wrong.

CB :)

I support United, dreadful start albeit in hard games. Draw at home to Reading, rubbish, draw away to Pompey, actually quite a good result there considering our record, loss to city in the derby *cringe* then a narrow win at home to Tottenham today. The weird thing is we played really well against city except we couldn’t finish at all, we missed a incredible amount of chances it was scary, their one chance...they score. The reverse was almost true today, we were rubbish and one of the few attempts we made we scored from.

Having said this i am optimistic, as we essential don't have a striker at the moment and as a result play retarded 4-3-3 formations with no width. The lack of an actual striker is rather worrying, there are only three in the whole squad; one is too old, (and injured) another two young (and rubbish), another just there for marketing in China and the fourth, Saha, has been injured for half a year despite having nothing wrong with him...

Ole is gone now aswell. I do think we need to buy an out and out striker, Saha is unreliable to the point of constantly just assuming he is injured.

As for the formation, I hink its just cus Rooney is out. Iv never seen United play convincingly with anything other than 442. I thought Ferguson had learned that lesson over the last few seasons.

Farewell Ole. 20Legend.

United have to get rid of Saha. He's a very talented player, but he's clearly got no heart (either that, or he's secretly battling some dreadful condition, like Jonah Lomu with the kidney condition that nearly killed him). Which implies a bid for Berbatov or even Anelka. (Berbatov pledged himself to Spurs, but if you read what he actually said, it was basically "I'm a Spurs player because no-one has made a formal bid for me, and I'm sticking round at least till the next transfer window" - hardly convincing.

United's problem is that they no longer know their best team or formation. Last year, everyone agreed on the best starting 11 (maybe only arguing ove Heinze/Evra). same in 1999. Now, do we play 4-3-3 or 4-4-2? If so, does Scholes play? Giggs or Nani? Rooney and Tevez together, or do we need Saha? We still got to work this out, and that's why United are struggling.

Chelsea turmoil as Mourinho quits

From correspondents in London, England
September 20, 2007

JOSE Mourinho's three-year reign at Chelsea came to an abrupt end on Thursday as the Portuguese manager's fraught relationship with the club's Russian owner, Roman Abramovich, finally reached breaking point.

I would be worried if I was a United supporter simply because of their inability to score more than a single goal, their results have been okay but hopefully with Rooney back they can finally start winning more convincingly.

Liverpool have started far more impressively.

Also, Tottenham's capitulation to Arsenal last week was hilarious. Watching Bent, Berbatov and Keane blow so many chances between them to lose 3-1.

Now all I need is an excuse to go into work late on Monday to catch the big United vs Chelsea fixture :\

^ Benitez still concerns me how he tampers with winning league formulas though. He is a great Champions League manager and has mastered the science of the group & knockout stages. But preparing his troops for a season grind? I have strong doubts. Man I am no Aresnal supporter, but fuck me if they just don't play the best football to watch. It just oozes sex appeal. Man Utd really haven't done anything that different than last year, it's just key players aren't sky high with confidence and aren't giving the team the lift they need. Christ, even Bolton might have won the league last year if Ronaldo had a spell for them like the season just gone. Chelski are mad to let Jose go, they had a winning formula and just got too greedy with the likes of Sheva and Ballack (admittedly they both seemed like great buys). Now they look like turning into another Inter Milan (pre 2005), at best and personally I couldn't be happier to see them go down with that filthjy rich cunts stollen billions. Hah.

Oh and Go Leeds. 7 games, 7 wins and six points on the board. We've finally found our level.

^^

Leeds had a whopping 15 point deduction didn't they... eep... well at least it looks like they are going good... may even come back up to the championship... although it is uber early to be making predictions... but hey, the confidence that comes from actually winning games is priceless, even if it is in League 1...

CB.

Arsenal's kids will run out of energy by the end of the season. They're playing some great football now but they can't stay at that level forever. United's more experienced players will start to gell and will ruthlessly cut down the gap and United will win the league.

[Note: I said exactly the same thing last season, only about United and Chelsea respectively. So who knows? If Arsenal win, it will be a major major acheivement, so good luck to them. Just hope it isn't the Scouse].

most of Arsenals "kids" are 3rd and 4th year players by now. I don't wanna say too much but I'm impressed with the way they are playing to say the least.

Howvever they've not played the other big 3 yet so we'll see how it goes...

Adebayor is no replacement for Henry, in fact, quite obviously there are few very players who could replace him. So far Fabregas is making up for it by contributing quite a few goals.

hmmm very pleased with city so far this year. egghead has us playing some delightful football (and scoring at home)!

^^

They are playing quite well. If they can keep their focus, then they can pretty much cruise through til December...
