Me and my fiance have been together for 6 years so we went shopping together for my ring. I picked out about 4 settings that I liked, and he bought the diamond on this own. It's a brilliant round, a little over a carat. I'm not sure about the color/clarity... I didn't want too much going on ( like on the sides) bc have really small stumpy hands.

I feel quite ugly about saying this but if my boyfriend gives me anything less than a carat, it better be going into my ears.

I'd like to know what gets in a girl's head that puts her in that state of mind? When did someone become so important that a diamond smaller than a carat isn't good enough for a ring? What makes her think she's such hot shit that she's even entitled to such luxuries. What are you, the princess of a famous king or something? What if the guy had that same pompous attitude, what would you get him?

This isn't only directed at Perpetual Indulgence, but for all women..
 
I told you I feel ugly thinking it but it is not like he couldn't afford it. It is not a measure of my worth. Our relationship is beyond measure in jewelry. I'd buy him the same token as I would think that he would buy me.
 
i just cant win

my last g/f said she loved me so much that she would accept the ring pull from a can of beer. so when it came to announcement time, i handed one to her in front of everybody.
she went off her tree... go figure.8( :\ =D

what happened... well this is when i gave it to her....
when i first asked her to marry me, i was in teh most richest of states, so i got her more of a token ring, a cheeper ring, it was beautiful, but i didnt want to ask her with out giving her a ring.... so i gave it to her, and yeah, she said yes and such/...

then, when i got her this one, i took her on a picnic, it was sunset, on the beach, i got her to close her eyes, and i talked about how much she meant to me and such, then i took the old ring off her finger...

and presented her with the new one, and it shimmered beautifully in the sun...

lovley moment....

LOL... I have always said to my boyfriend, "I don't care if you propose to me with an onion ring! It's the asking that's important."

And well, last night he had no onion rings handy, but he did propose to me with the ring off his own finger (for now) and I couldn't be more thrilled. =D

When you hear those words, "I can't imagine my life without you in it... will you be my wife?" I don't care what the bling is, nothing could top that feeling.

And, like most girls here I have pretty particular tastes and so I'm mega-excited about going shopping for my own ring next weekend. I think we'll do a payment plan thing, but I don't want anything expensive, just a small princess cut diamond in a white gold/platinum band.

CuPillar, that ring is stunning! In my dream world that would be the sort of thing I'd get. But hell, on our current salaries I'd much rather save our money for the wedding... and the honeymoon! ;)
 
^ Heh, not really! I just went down to Beville's today and found one I loved within 10 minutes! And it's nearly half price on a current sale, I'm absolutely stoked (sure Dale will be too). I'm taking him down there Saturday to have a look and see if he likes it, and if so we'll put it on their 6 months' interest free plan. Only $37 a week or something. A snap :)

I couldn't bring myself to buy my own engagement ring. I'd rather go with something really simple if it was all he could afford.

I'd graciously give a guy a nice watch or take him on a vacation, but I won't buy my own ring. I'd be giving him my hand in marriage; the least he can do is put a ring on it himself. ;)
