end the war on drugs PETITION

Ah ok, I'd never have got that if you hadn't said! Why change it, I think it's pretty cool, and we could just call you e[35:52] for short :) Or just a random string of numbers and I'm sure ppl would know who it referred to! Now I have to ask why you were reading that :?=D

Hehe ok, but still, if it was signed with your name, it would be impossible to prove that you signed it unless it was done by an ip address associated with your actual address. Even then it doesn't prove that you did it.

most anyone has no practical reasons to worry, it's just that people (understandably) don't want to stand out in such areas - wearing a shirt w/ a huge pot leaf on it doesn't mean you smoke pot, but if i happened to be high i'd rather wear a polo ;P

AFAIK avaaz has helped a few causes.. Although i generally agree with you..

Then again.. what's the harm in trying? Better than sitting around with your finger up your ass..

not good enough to know how tracking could be done, but know enough about mathematics to tell you how.
let's say we're talking about a pretty watched-topic in the US: clandestine methamphetamine production.
now, let's say that johnny doe wanted to become a meth cook. johnny goes online to some generic sites (not illegal / doesn't prove anything), johnny goes to walmart and buys a bunch of products (not illegal / doesn't prove anything). a few weeks later, johnny's cell phone starts registering a bunch of odd activity (not illegal / doesn't prove anything).
These activities, in and of themselves, prove nothing. Add them up, and you can be pretty damn sure johnny was cooking meth.

Signing a petition isn't going to put you on a watch list, but to pretend these things cannot be catalogued, indexed, and used with pretty good precision (once combined) is naive.

I doubt this list is going to go into any record, or anywhere for that means.

I'm not signing shit because its a lost cause. If you actually think this country will EVER, in any of OUR lifetimes, change the drug laws, or especially legalize / decriminalize anything aside from pot, you are strongly disillusioned. Sorry :/

^^^Do you realize if you had signed it as many times as you've posted in here about being too paranoid to sign it, the petition would have 7 additional signatures? The government thrives on your fears because they hold back progress.

Sad that so many people are so paranoid about being "outed" for advocating the lawful use of a plant. That says a lot about the psychological state of the U.S.S.A. today.

Being gay was once illegal until gay people stood up and said, "Enough." I'm wondering when tax-paying, consenting adult drug users will do the same.

those 7 signatures mean absolutely nothing to me

Then gtfo of this topic you worthless lout? What are you just hear to shit on everyone by saying "ehehehe I could have gottan 7 additional signatures but instead I chose not to do it out of pure apathy, furthering the status quo, HeHehAHAH! FU!"

Worthless children. Who ironically are going to throw out a myriad of "professional" or "adult" reasons why they don't want to be involved here.

Guess what, some of us have to be "professionals" as well and are not afraid to be associated with drug use, because you know, that's how social change happens. The avaaz petition is not so much a tangible advent of social change but a measure of our willingness to initiate it in the first place.

i didn't realize that this podunk, anonymous online survey was some big gauge of one's balls or their commitment to legalization. my bad.

This "podunk online survey" was leveraged as influence on the UN, making somewhat palpable difference. It just has the added bonus of separating the pathetic scourges who love to get all of the goods of drug use and refuse to except any of the bads in the furtherance of change.

It is clear to me that you don't actually know anything about this survey, and that you put even less thought into this self serving cop-out "reply"

it is still your bad, though.

of course, funny is that you're still being evasive about being a smarmy punk who just had to rub it in everyones faces that he took the express time not not to participate in a "podunk online survey." Good job, you want a medal? 8)

really? like sending them a strongly-worded letter, kinda? i like it :)
/oh- could you please source that? im just curious what this influence was, shouldn't be a problem.

because if there's any true barometer of one's willingness to further legalization, it's an avaaz petition 8)

being 'evasive' about it? hard to reply to that w/o knowing what you intended to use instead of 'evasive'.. and how do you take the time to NOT do something? that doesn't make sense either, bra ;P

"The next day, the Global Commission and Avaaz met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. In 30 minutes of discussion, the Avaaz petition was presented and repeatedly cited as evidence of public demand for an end to the war. Ban took an important step and decided to create a task force to look at new solutions to the problem of drugs! A real and desperately needed debate has finally begun ..."

From avaaz' may update. If you think they're lying, then that's on you, I personally find this credible enough evidence.

Of course I won't pretend that this is going to end the war on drugs, but you wanted evidence that the petition was leveraged against the UN and there it is. Whether or not that will make any difference is another matter.

its ironically because of people like you that this is in essence somewhat true ;)

That either didn't make any sense, or you just totally tried to evade your way out of being called evasive. either way, works for me.

and how do you take the time to NOT do something? that doesn't make sense either, bra ;P

By making a point of coming in this thread and announcing to everyone about how you did NOT do something. THat was tough

Yeah, by create a task force, you mean they started to look at the IP addresses of all the people who signed the petition. Keep dreaming bro.

i haven't evaded a single point in this entire thread, the only things unmentioned about my position on such petitions is the fact that - many years back - i actually was the kind of person that would go and sign such things (and totally feel like it meant something, however small). now, any online petition wrt drug-legality seems laughable, to put it politely.
/thnx for that quote from their newsletter, i'm sure the un's task-force will have some effect on some drugs somewhere. i'm totally sure of it- there's no way it'll have zero.effect.whatsoever on drugs ;P

Did you even read the post? Pretty sure I just said that I have no delusions that the UN is going to do anything major. I simply made a claim about a petition's ability to translate into policy action, whether or not that policy action is ineffective, negative or positive is entirely another matter on which I'm basically agreeing with you.

Yeah, by create a task force, you mean they started to look at the IP addresses of all the people who signed the petition. Keep dreaming bro.

Oh yeah, did the arpeggios tell you that? chill out you br0, you can't claim a petition has no social bearing and then also claim that the UN cares enough about it to create a task force to get the IPs of what are most likely going to be fake names anyway, not to mention if you understood how IPs worked you'd know that IPs =/= people. You sound like an idiot.
