One new years eve when I was 16, a crowd of us met up to party before heading down into the city for midnight. There were a lot of stuff going round, but there was one girl was always on a mission to get way more wrecked than anyone else, and it was her house we were at. Her grandmother had moved in with them recently and she accessed her medicine stash, so combined with what we had brought there was a mix. (incidentally this girl only had 1 leg but was stunning looking).
So at about 11pm we went down to where the crowds were (light show etc), and I could tell this girl was way more wrecked than me but it was all good. For some reason we ended up climbing up on a statue, bad idea, as midnight struck the crowd pushed forward and she fell and banged her head hard. She was lying on the floor and was in and out of conciousness. It was so noisy and hectic but before I knew it paramedics had arrived and were screaming in my face 'whats she taken! whats she taken! we need to know! '
I must have looked equally fucked but sense kicked in so I started to recite the long list of drugs she had taken, something like 'ok ok, shes had lots of vodka, um, cannabis, um, ecstasy, um, speed, um, temazepam, um, tramadol...' I'm pretty sure at that point I was also freaking out a bit in quite an embarrassing way asking repeatedly and irritatingly if she was going to die.
They took her off in an ambulance and her sister went with her, I wont digress with what happened to her next.
Anyway! About two years later I got a call from a friends father. He had been talking to his wife in the kitchen the evening before and had heard my voice, so thought I had called round. When he went to see where my voice was coming from there I was, on national TV, featuring on a documentary about the work of the city emergency services on new years eve. I have no recollection at all of any camera crew. I can just imagine what an absolute state I must have looked, how awful I must have sounded as well as what I was saying! I go red even now just thinking about it and was too embarrassed to even ask my friends dad for details. Only 3 other people have ever said they to me they saw it which is fine by me.
