In case anyone was unsure, an article from a few months back explaining the Greens drug policy is available at this link

In March 2007, the Greens released a revised policy titled Drugs: Substance Use and Addiction which modified some of the earlier proposals. This policy again endorses an evidence-based harm minimisation approach which targets the health and social context of drug use.

Specifically, the policy recommends the establishment of an Australian Drugs Policy Institute to undertake research trials and evaluation of policy and treatment programs; the regulated use of cannabis for specified medical purposes; the replacement of criminal penalties for personal drug use with a system of civil sanctions; serious penalties for the supply and/or possession of commercial quantities of illegal drugs; serious penalties for driving while under the influence of alcohol and other drugs that impair cognitive or psychomotor skills; and increased availability of harm reduction programs, including needle and syringe exchanges, medically supervised injecting rooms, and a scientific trial of prescribed heroin to registered users.

The revised policy is even more mainstream, and would arguably be supported by many if not most drug professionals and researchers, and legal and medical experts. It is not significantly different from the recently released ALP drugs policy which also emphasises the use of harm reduction programs including supervised injecting facilities to tackle the health and social problems caused by drug use.

The major strength of the Greens policy is that it recognises that many young Australians will continue to use illicit drugs for a variety of reasons including relaxation, fun, pleasure, curiosity, and to cope with problems, anxiety or pain.

Things to watch out for, perhaps?

I have been hearing regular rumors about a plan by groups like Mr. Howard's Exclusive Brethren Cult interfering in the counting process with organised pairs of corrupt returns officers at the 2007 election?===== Anyone else hearing anything?===Remember Florida 2004 in the US ++++++++ Arrogant Enough to think it could not happen in Aust in 2007? ==== Are you that SMUG?....HA HA

Kim Beazley

The polls are tightening, newspoll tend to be quite accurate and now they're saying the figures have narrowed from58-42 to 54-46, still going Labor's way but enough to make the required swing much harder, the Lib's could still hold onto power via key marginals :!

10/1 odds that Howard is gone for good! If this is the case I'm gonna have a MASSIVE party this weekend at earthc***!! Go greens!

Howard you are a senile retard!

I so hope the Liberal Party lose.I'll be celebrating too,if this happens.

I'll be so angry and democracy is a sham(again),that can go to hell (again), if Labor get more votes, but Liberal win because of more seats(Just like 1998 8o ).

I live in Bennelong. So,I'll be getting to vote out "Mr Core & Non-Core Promise Howard".

If the Liberal party still :p win,I hope at least Howard loses his own seat <3 .

There was a low flying plane over town this morning. It was dragging a huge bannder that said "VOTE FOR SUE PAGE" Who is our local national party member.

I don't like voting in pencil.

i don't like voting in pants, but we must all make sacrifices for the greater good.

i'm a greens supporter (surprise surprise), but i ended up voting for tanner (alp) in the house of reps because i'm fucking nervous today.

if the libs win i'm seriously gonna cry a lot.

You and me both brother (1234).

I can't believe you're still voting Liberal anna :)

Disappointing, especially considering you vote for whatever works best for your family, which definitely isn't Liberal this time around.
