Has any one tried to use Elavil or generic elavil. I read information on this drug at International drug mart saying it reduces tension. Is this drug also used to get sleep. I am prescribed for sleeping too..

Welcome to Bluelight tomfrank.

I'm going to move this over to Basic.

NMI -------> BDD

It's a good tricyclic AD. I used to be prescribed it before passing on another one. Quite sedative.

I was put on that after a major concussion and i cannot stress how much i hated it. it gives you a fucked up feeling like you have no emotions and you are dragging so much. if i HAD to take it then it would be for sleep, though i think it caused hangovers for me with the dragging and emotional distance

Hi, this was the last antidepressant I was on and it works quite well for
sleep. My doctor wrote me a script for 10 mg and I told him at the hospital
they gave me 100 mg. Raised eyebrows but he gave it to me. Plus, you
will not be overly sedated or groggy in the morning. Best wishes, Theresa

I suppose since it's an anti-depressant that it could very well work differently on each person. It's possible that I didn't need it at the time because I believe the neurologist said it was more of a protective measure. Good luck!

It was one of best for me and I had taken practically everything. The worst reactions as far as hangovers for me were trazadone, sinequan(doxepin), geodon and seroquel. Made me feel just awful in the morning trying to wake up. So I know what you mean when you mention that dragging feeling!

Really? Our brains must be complete opposites then because trazadone would knock me out cold during one of my many hospital stays over the past two years. Then again, I was also on I.V. dilaudid every hour and a half with oxycontin twice a day at that point so maybe that helped. About a week after I was out of the hospital, it stopped working. They had sent me home with some so I was still taking it, but after that it wouldn't work even if I doubled the dose. The hospital stay was in January and I've tried it quite a few times in the months after because I have, which my doctor believes is anxiety related insomnia which makes it hard to fall asleep and I have central sleep apnea so if I fall asleep, it is very hard to stay asleep for very long. I never did get a hangover from trazadone. I think the worst things for sleep for me are diphenhydramine and I have to say Lunesta because of the horrible taste it leaves in your mouth not only until the next morning, but i've had it do that most of the next day.

I complained to my doctor today that the vistoril wasn't helping me sleep. So he has me back on the elavil, but said start at just 50 mg. I hope it works.

i got a script for 10 mg elavil to take at night for insomnia due to depression and upper back tension
i took it two nights in a row and could barely get out of bed for two days
i dont know if thats normal for such a low dose, and only using it twice
but it definately felt like i was dragging myself for 48 hours and i slept for most of that time
i thought that was pretty fucked up so i searched the drug interaction checker cause im on 20 mg cipralex too
why would my doctor perscribe me something that has a MAJOR interaction? wouldnt it be clear that two antidepressants arent a good idea?
im too scared to take the elavil again...
i gotta go see him on monday... can anyone give me suggestions for trying something else?
