Effects of smoking herb on the heart?

so occasionally, strokes, heart attacks and other adverse cardiovascular events are reported in young healthy marijuana users. i think that makes it pretty obvious it's not good for your heart.

No it does not. There are no extensive studies to support that. I think that a lifestyle of someone with amotivational syndrome (often a result from MJ use) can lead to heart problems moreso than the actual drug. You don't have to smoke to be a lazy bum, though.

why don't you post these studies? also, if the heart attack happens right after smoking marijuana, you can't rule out marijuana as potentially contributing, other lifestyle issues aside. i think any drug that routinely doubles your heart rate can be a risk a factor for heart attacks. i know that marijuana is very safe as far as drugs go, but it's made my heart do some pretty freaky things, including three years of postural orthostatic hypotension, caused by marijuana.

Cannabis definitely can increase my heart rate but usually it has to do with either anxiety or me eating more (big meals tend to up my heart rate for some reason). Anything that increases heart rate or blood pressure can technically cause all these horrible problems but not in a healthy person. Odds are if the slight increase in BP/heart rate from Cannabis is enough to cause a serious problem then you have some sort of condition you already know about (Very overweight, really old, heart prob of some sort). The increase isn't much more than walking up a few flights of stairs.

As for the cardiovascular system an older friend of our family who smokes Cannabis quite a bit and has since the early 70's had a stent put in one of his main arteries and the doc commented on how pliable and in good shape his arteries were as opposed to someone who smokes tobacco (he doesn't smoke tobacco). His heart and arteries were fine (except the one that needed the stent but he has family history of clogged arteries- you can blame bacon/eggs for that one). Pretty anecdotal I know but makes me feel like if this guy smokes for that long and a doctor is talking about how nice his arteries and heart are I doubt Cannabis will cause people many problems in that department.

Let's see some studies that show that MJ does anything besides temporarily raise heart rate. Let's see some studies showing that MJ causes hypotension.

There's just as much evidence that marijuana causes heart attacks as there is evidence that taking a shit causes heart attacks.

Liberal? Wouldn't liberals want weed legalized?

Don't think like that. Liberal and conservative as well as democrat and republican are nothing more than generally agreed upon words to represent a conglomeration of ideas that don't necessarily have to be mutually exclusive, etc etc. Long story short, they are labels and only serve to turn the people against each other, which, ironically (or not?) works out in favor of those politicians that we continue to put in power, thinking maybe they won't screw us like the last ones who operated on the same dichotomies.

It was a joke, don't read so much into it.
