TDS Eating Disorders Megathread

I seem to have these times that I just "can't stop eating", even when I'm not really hungry. Now the most logical explanation would be that I'm using it as coping, comfort eating, but I feel ok right now and I'm doing it.

You could just be hungry. Listen to your body. Don't overdo it, but if you feel like eating, then eat. Just be sure not to eat junk.

:)

/me cries a single tear.

Once you get into real, good food, you'll never want that stuff again. Plus you'll feel better.

I wish I could fax you a meal to help convince you.

ha ha once in awhile I'll crave a steak or something but my days are filled with pop (soda), ice cream, candy, pasteries..
the wa I look at it, at least I'm eating SOMETHING...

n3o-- I've seen pics of you in the lounge (I think), and you are not fat. Lunch is brilliant, I like to eat at least three of them a day!
Thanks Dave :)

Wow Dave, I might actually eat some of that stuff. But thats looks like FAR too much work for my busy lazy ass.
Yeah, maybe sugar is the source of some of my issues, but I don't see it changing. I guess I'm a sugar addiction and its easy, just grab and go. Sugar makes me happy. I tried to go sugar free for a bf once, I felt like complete shit.

Interesting! My sister eats pretty much nothing but simple starches and sugars, and has colitis-like symptoms (although she refuses to see a doc or change any of her habits-- just likes to complain about it). I'll have to see if I can dig something up on that and pass it her way.

PT-- Start small. Instead of eating a bowl of cereal in the morning, make a cold muesli the night before. Eat a sliced apple instead of something sweet for a snack. Keep a bit of cheese on hand for protein cravings.

I could go on for days :)

Dave are you a dietician or anything? Or just knowledgable on the subject? Good advice at any rate :)

Just an update on my situation, I had some acid on the weekend by myself (at a party, but no-one else was tripping) and I got a lot of introspective time. I had a revelation that I am still beautiful even when I'm not skinny, and when my boyfriend gets home (tomorrow) he won't want to see a skinny unhealthy girl, he'll want to see the woman he knows, with her big boobs haha. So I ate plenty of food on the weekend and I just had to get over it and deal with the weight gain.

So I'm now pretty much back to "normal"...

It would be unrealistic for me to say I won't relapse again at some stage, but for now I'm fine.

I don't know, I thought about doing a food journal so that you all could see what I'm talking about with the sugar situation and offer some ways to make easier changes. But I'm afraid that will cause me to focus on my food intake too much and make my issues with food worse...

That's awesome PI. My sister has an "obsession" similar to yours, and her body is amazingly fit...like yours! :)

n3o-- nope, not a dietitian. Just a food geek. Since I went veg, I've been learning as much as I can about nutrition in general and vegan nutrition specifically. I do have an obsession with food unfortunately, but by keeping things as much as possible within the realm of the academic, I can usually keep myself from bingeing.

A bit of advice-- there is no official, government sanctioned 'food guide' that isn't a sack of crap that was paid for by various food production lobbies. Unfortunately, at least where I live, dietitians are trained exclusively in the official food guide rather than actual nutritional science. So generally, nutritionists > dietitians, although there are a lot of quack nutritionists out there too.

The best guideline for eating that I've heard yet is: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." Wish I knew who said it.

I like this^! And I also very much like your input here Dave! Please keep it up :)

n3o you know what I think. I hope you feel a bit better now than earlier tonight. Please please enjoy the boy coming home, but please also work hard to one day do it just for you. You can't rely on other people. I already made that mistake and you crash hard everytime they go away.

I luv luv you n3o, one day you will too, i know it because you cannot possibly go your whole life without seeing your shining, sparkling light.

<3

pillthrill - good stuff! maybe now try to add in some healthy foods as well? for now dont cut out the sugar, eat what you like, just try and be conscious of your body's vitamin/mineral needs too and eat some fruits and veggies. that'd be a good start, and they taste good!!
