EADD what are you munching on? Not overdone like the last thread.

^^ That looks exactly like this cumin potato dish I do as a mainstay (but I put in black mustard as well). Good stuff innit :D

I love this combination - try boiling the potatoes until really soft, drain them and in a pan fry the cumin (and spices of your choice) add a tub of yogurt give it a few stirs and add the potato <3.

Yeah I've tried parboiling, but it always ends up as a bit of a fluffy hash if I try that - something I'm doing wrong. I stick to frying straight from the start (but it does take ages and can end up a bit greasy [if that bothers you - bonus to me:D]). Not tried it with yoghurt, but that sounds lush. Yeah, other than cumin/mustard seeds, I like to do it with panch pooran.

It's great as leftovers as well - refried with a spicy tomato mix. Will definitely have to try with yoghurt as well though Bear.

It doesn't bother me at all ? You cook what you like to eat <3 (Phoran ) make it to your taste (garam massala ?)

Yeah I'm a bit lazy to keep making Garam Masala - only tastes fresh straight after grinding and it's a lot of stuff to dig out, but I bet that would work too.

Spud - Not having a go at you. If you want to make your own mixes then go for it :). I was unsure of the word Phoran - I thought it was a personal mix.

I'm not sure I really understand (I've got a big bag of panch puran, which is a whole spice mix, and it goes well with the spuds), but I'm glad you're not having a go - always a bonus :D

I had not heard of that before, Strange as I have all the ingredients (minus the Fenurgreek as he hates it) - nice mix though. Will have to give that go though Thanks

Falafel, hummus, kibbeh, rice, salad & charcoal grilled meats.

Hell yeah (minus the Kibbeh and meat) - Pickled veg :)

I love Falafel and hummus - if you like that have you tried 'Foul' (cooked broad beans)? Use that instead of chickpeas when making hummus - or just mash it with olive oil and cumin :). It's a staple food here (subsidised) so you can buy a bag of cooked chickpeas / Fava beans for next to nothing - whats crazy is its actually cheaper to eat out than cook! I found an Indian cafe, the food is amazing (all vegetarian) we pigged out the other night - we had 3 curries, dhal, rice, chapatis, dosa masala and two cokes for about 7£

No bear i've not tried it. Going to give moutabal (sp?) a go soon, baked aubergines instead of chickpeas I think. You don't eat red meat, is that correct? Don't worry I had some chicken kebabs on the go as well :)

Moutable / Baba Ganoush are both a regular of mine :). Try using pomegranate seeds on top or buy a bottle of the pomegranate molasses as it goes really nicely with them. I tend to skip the Tahini as it masks the flavors of the other ingredients. (If your roasting your Aubergines, give them 10 mins and put some whole garlic gloves in with them [with skin on] use that in the dish for a background taste, then add fresh to add the zing).

What set you off on the Middle Eastern food ?

Your right, I don't eat any red meat and lately have been almost vegetarian as only eat chicken one or twice a week.

just had this not keen at all :p infact

It sounds appealing in principle but more often than not these concoctions from supermarkets just turn out to be a let down. Even lots of the 'best of' range end up tasting crap - it's very hit & miss.

That's why I try to stick to cooking my own meals.

I'm glad it was ok FG, because my experience of ASDA ready meals has been.... well, they're at the apex of shiteness. I had a lasagne from there once and one bite made me want to hurl. Lasagne is basically my favourite food an' all.

Back home, so getting cooked the mandatory Saturday night curry (my dad is a great cook - one of the charms I didn't inherit)

the sauce was just a generic spicy/curry tasting concoction the chicken was sugary tastes better in my belches than on the way down

its strange i want another now though weird

Probably all that sugar. ;)

I tried a 'best of' lasagne from Asda & was thoroughly disappointed with it too. I tried one from Tesco though & it was quite nice. I never tried making a lasagne but I keep meaning to try make a spinach lasagne... one of my Dad's friends made one for us once & it was heavenly.

I'm having fish pie for dinner soon. :)

Just had a shami kebab & aloo daal with a couple of poppadoms, got a chicken tikka biryani waiting. From a very nice takeaway.
