I've wondered this and googled it before.

The boring answer I think is it doesn't stand for anything, it's just an expression.

I've been reading too much dodgy stuff on the unternet of late. i do underdatns the reasons behind the reformation a little more. now i'm going to see if you tube can convert me to islam. Idoubt it very much. There are strange forces that guide us. they are: gravity and the elctromagnetic force. (I've just had an mri on my knee)
No, it's weird, I lost my phone the other week. Just as I was going to go on a date. The fella was going to need to ring to arrange. Phone disappears. It also makes it harder for me to get drugs. certainly mysterious.
Christianity seems to have taken many pagan practices and made them christian. I still like the idea of Jesus and all the fancy stuff of the catholic church, but when you look at them in their pointy hats and dresses and candles and other stuff it does make you wonder what it is all about. the confessional box was certainly invented as a way of having power. "we takes your money and we get to hear the bad stuff you've been up to so we can take more money off you if you don't want us to tell anyone.

TBH, that's what pisses me off most about Christianity. They completely stole from pagans & Jews for all their major holidays...and yet there's the whole 'pagans are heathens!' thing. If you take away the stolen aspects, there's almost nothing enjoyable or festive left to Christmas or Easter.

Does anyone know how Cain was punished for his murder of Abel in the Bible? Google's telling me he was cursed but not what the curse was or what it entailed. Would be very helpful to know for my work on Hamlet if anyone can help. Thank youuu :)

NE and raas.. have you read the texts that didn't make it into the bible?

where do you get the texts that didn't make it into the bible. and i mean a nice easy version of them. It's just a mystery. 'm no expert or anything. The way genesis is written it does look like one of them big legend cycle things.

"things we tell children to keep them out of trouble and make them behave" "things we did before we had television" also who could read and write? a lil bit of the old chinese whispers going on, or consequences.

the jewish feast of passover is a movable feast just like easter? is it today? just like maundy thursday? why aren't there more jews? how did christianity become so big? how did islam become so big?

another thing. christians are more into jesus than muslims? yes? it says in the christian book that jesus is coming back? now, I know that there are christians who do go on about him coming back but it doesn't seem to be as fresh in the memory as it is to muslims. muslims really are very coninced that jesus is coming back fairly soon. it just freaks me out when I hear grown intelligent adults coming out with this kind of thing. I didn't used to question for many years and I did just believe and all that, also, most of the men in my family. (uncles and dad and grandad) have never been too carried away with it, the same for parents of friends yet I see grown men of muslims saying all this stuff. What the hell is it all about? What is it like to really really really really believe? when I think on it the real belief i had as a youngun wasn't as real as my belief in father christmas or the tooth fairy or the mankeepers that lived by water.
Belief. self fulfilling prophecies. if you get told you're wonderful all your life you believe it. so if you tell yourself/ are told about jesus/ enough times then you believe it. Is this why many ultra religious folk condemn anything that isn't directly god like songs, dancing, books , art and films and stuff? ah yes indeed it is. because that puts other

here, I thought it had already saved. i posted it and got logged out thru my mad ramblings.

he made him an outlaw, told him that when he tilled the ground he would get no fruit anymore. Cain was worried about being killed himself, but the good lord said oh no, that's not going to happen for i will make him sorry. he gave him a token to show this so any chancer who tried to kill him would no not to kill cain.
Cain lived as a fugitive east of eden. He had a son called henoch. Henoch had sons jabel and jubel. jabel was a sheep herder and juble a musician

i had loads of other ramblings to go with this. i need pen and nice book . for writing my own book. there's loads of people do it.

^ in fact does this fly in the face of capital punishment? this was the 1st murder to those who take this at it's word Yes? How was he punished? he was BANISH ED and was put under gods protection.

pick and choose my friends, pick and choose to serve your needs.

which reminds me, that is exactly what I was on about. How most religions have an "all or nothing£" attitude (notice the freudian £ sign :)) in the H thread i mentioned the all or nothing with things like heroin, vegetarianism, cigarette smoking : how you'll be chastised for doing something that you fancy when you want.
see, i cannot help but love a bit of the old roman catholocism. i can't help it, I was born in, and i'll die in likely too with the last rites etc. Now, I don't like everything about it, and don't do everything that I'm "supposed to" but i do still see myself as a catholic.
The bible, any other holy book. the literal interpretations. the figurative interpretations. Religions clearly pick and choose what is to be taken literally as god's instruction, and what can be interpreted from it. Now, I tell you solemnly. You holy boys tell me i cannot pick and choos which bits of a religion I am happy with, the bits that will enlighten me spiritually, yet you who tell me what to do pick and choose which bits of the bible are to be taken as the truth and nothing but theee truth but other bits of what you think the truth in them is. oh dear.

The beauty of this thread, is it has become so circular, I can just copy/paste the earlier posts now. I've no doubt that it won't get listened too this time around either, but at least i'm not wasting so much time of my life typing now :)

Cain lived as a fugitive east of eden.

Gives a little explanation of hell, for those who expressed it was "unfair" earlier. Death would be an easy, convenient escape from the guilt of murderous sins. But God, in his fairness, allows the eternal consequence of sin, by creating hell.

Are you kidding me? The actual Bible itself (OT + NT) took long enough to read and study, without looking at the texts that didn't even make it.

Me and Jess are not alt users. Why would i want to double all the anti-christian retorts on my views? lol

Your "fascist" remark was a bit more founded than I gave you credit for. But still, Jesus, the ultimate "mr nice guy"... you know, asking God to forgive those who are torturing him to death...... and fascism!? I can't see it.

Thank you Alas, I am not really impartial, though I like to think I'm fairly objective. I was agnostic until university, and nearly all of my friends and family are atheist or agnostic. I'm constantly defending religion to them...it's like bashing religion and believers has become a popular new sport among educated Westerners.
I guess God is very difficult to accept, in such an imperfect world. Some I feel, have developed genuine reason to doubt religion, yet in others I feel the good, peaceful nature of religion (particularly Jesus) clashes with their own egoistic nature. (hence all the blasphemy)

I was agnostic until university also. Found love of my life, which gave me understanding that human spirituality was above more primitive animalstic/egoistic desires which largely shape pre-nuptial relationships. Saw there was more to life, and ended up Christian. (The relationship become disastrous though. Thus I sadly infer, it's not an ideal world....but I still dig the spirituality which exists inside of it.)

Problem is, God gave us a choice to ignore him... so if he's provable by physical evidence, the whole thing falls on itself, doesn't it. What's my evidence? Love of life, really. I guess I see it all around me... My friends, my family, those I love and the precious moments I've experienced with them... The love I experience in visiting amazing places. The beauty all around us. This of course is not empirical proof. It cannot be... you have to give everyone else the choice to ignore God, remember?
rickolasnice said:
And none of those things you mentioned is evidence for a God.. they really.. really aren't

Yes, of COURSE they're not. Did you even read the post? I said "This of course is not empirical proof. It cannot be..."

"God gave us a choice to ignore him... so if he's provable by physical evidence, the whole thing falls on itself, doesn't it."

This is the problem I'm having with you. You ask all these questions, I put thought into the replies and you just don't seem to assimilate any of it. Then go off repeating the same old, ignorant, arguement "The God in the OT was all vile and Jesus worshipped him".

That's unfair, most 2 year olds cannot manipulate people with fear. Nearly all of them have no grasp of iconoclasym and revolution, which are what all semitic religions were about

So is this deity of yours a pervert or a moron? Going by the Bible I'm gonna say both... But that sounds suspiciously like the work of primitive-thinking men really. Which - coincidentally - is what I thought anyway.

Guys, guys. guys... I think we need another little chat about the OT, don't we? It's still not getting through is it? Let's try again. Come gather round closely, boys... All of you. Still closer. And you as well Shambles; Don't be shy now.

It's recommended to look at Jesus when learning of God. It's not really fair to judge God on the book Jesus kept defying now is it? The old testament serves as a book to educate us on issues of

i stopped reading half way through. (at the end of the old testament: only joking)

yes raas, I like the fact that you say that you became spiritual and became christian. It isn't provable by anyone here on earth that christianity is def the right waym but there is enough in it to make it a potentially alright way of doing stuff. we only get one shot at it here on earth unless we are hindu. they surely must be right, but then repeated life on earth could indeed be a pergotry of an existence sort of thing.

Genesis 4:15 said:
And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

Some used to believe that the mark of Cain mentioned there is black skin, so that all would know him for the murderer of his brother. Seems to be a 19th century view little held any more, but was put to use as justification for slavery, or the treatment of blacks generally in the southern U.S. states. If blacks were cursed by God, why not cursed by man also. Useful that, wasn't it. Google 'mark of Cain black skin' you'll get more on that, seems to have been quite widely held, not limited to U.S. churches.

Seriously?
Oh for fuck's sake. That sort of thing just disgusts me so much. I feel like half the time the Bible's nothing more than an excuse to justify horrible behaviour.

what has happened to rachimim? i would like to know if the jews are still waiting for a messiah? How will they know the messiah when they come? Have there been many claiming to be the messiah since JC?

on holy books: when we have children we are always told that they don't come with an instruction manual, but there are instruction manuals on life that were written in a different age, Many of Jesus teachings I like but i find that they can mess your life up a bit. i spent too long in life turning the other cheek as it says. it does have its rightful place. The thing with these holy books is that they disempower people from making their own decisions. In a way they take away the free will. i don't like it. I may be a lil bit tainted by some of the stuff I have been reading on line from various places (i'm not so sure if the invention of organised was some grand plan of the alien race to make the human species a slave species) but it is not very rational. Why do we seek to put labels on ourselves, I'm a this, i'm a that I'm the other. I think therefore I am will do me for now. i know there are forces at play spiritual or whatever. (it could even be made beautiful in a mathematical equation) things happen in my day to day life that make me stop and think about this guidance that i get, and even my powers of predicting what 'll be on telly without a tv guide. (on many occasions I have talked about a topic, usually scientific and then it appears on the telly. Like 2 years ago I had bought a book on eathquakes and volcanoes in a charity shop. i didn't read it cover to cover I was browsing thru it and read a page about how flights were grounded somewhere in about 1983 due to volcanic ash. A day or 2 later and that is what happened here) maybe this is a message telling me to think what i i want to happen in my own life and it will happen) I'm a bit stoned at the moment so excuse me. I can't wait to get to ireland on tuesday.

Another thing; the q'ran. Is it true that anything said later in the book that is contradictory to something said esarlier the later text must be applied. They have no room for manoevre must be followed to the letter. Why are people so scared of a faithless society? My heads mashed.

I conclude that I am a goddess and I control my own world and make my own reality. "we all live in our own realities" I will, I'm going to work on keeping my own house in order and am not going to worry about the new world order and going to mass and confessions and all that.

See, these religions they do not allow for much balance. It is when we are able to balance everything in our lives then we can be at peace, therefore by having everything so black and white in these riddle me ree long rule books they cause turmoil in the mind of man so that he cannot be at peace and constantly at war with himself and others. Does that make sense? it does to me . I could get very angry about being tricked for so long, but at least i haven't been tricked directly by someone tellig me what to do. i have my religious affiliation through my family and they are not daft people. That's enough for now.
