I heard a rumour that Islam was a creation of the vatican. It may or not be. I find the thought of the kabba interesting. In it were "idols" I have heard that these idols were pyramids, cubes and other perfect mathematical shapes and stuff. These people in this area were well into their maths and astronomy. So basically, they must have known a lot . Obviously, knowing a lot is dangerous to religion because it removes mystery and "can only be explained by the existence of the mighty magician the big G" This would have been a threat to christianity. So if these ideas of rationalism were beginning to spread then this spread would need to be stopped. And so the kabba was took over and the idols smashed and this cube became the object of worship: removing one idol for another.

I also find it interesting how islam forbids the recreation of gods creations of life. No painting or making sculptures of things with eyes apparantly. Landscape is alright. (surely god made the hills and oceans) This is clearly a very sill y rule, and not much followed. Now, it is basically forbidding art. Now through art and the making ofpictures peoples minds can expand and they begin to think, and they can represent things without the use of words. Surely this is just another control mechanism to keep people away from their minds?
Religion that doesn't allow you to use your god given talent or doesn't allow you to look at stuff that others have been created.

It does really get me that the qu'ran is relied on so heavily and people cite the wonder of it that it doesn't change and all that. The business of the book of rules for life. It's so stupid.

So was it created by the vatican? It is kind of strange when you look at ancient religions and ancient worship and gods and stuff. It seems there were loads of religions. Communication wasn't so good so i suppose it was harder to standard ise stuff. Funny which ones gathered momentum and are still being worshipped? or is it? the religions all take a bit of this and a bit of that from what has gone before and make it fresh and new. Is it time for a shift?

another thing, there are those who reckon that the gods of ancient times were extra terrestrials because of what has been written in the holy books.

Now, is it possible that these people who looked like men were actually be men but suimply men of another colour from another continent?

I hate that . the qu'ran being the word of god. There are muslims that don't realise that that is their belief rather than fact. it is the word of god. That is what you believe. It is the word of god though/ Ridiculous.

What should religion be, in your opinion?

Well, our minds, bodies and consciousness allow us to express our intents perfectly. Most prevalently human egoism, and darker thoughts that can accompany it. Then also more edifying aspects of our consciousness.

In a world, with no apparent God, sometimes a more evil person can become advantageous. Cunningness and coldness can become rewarded and morality itself less significant when we remove God. We can certainly become more concerned with pride and egoism. This will effect some more than others.

Now, faith in God should inspire confidence to dissociate from the darker sides of human nature. To detach from material wealth, and find spiritual wealth - expressed in care for each other. To take advantage of the spiritual nature our bodies and minds can express.

And through detachment of our egoistic/sinful nature and developing our spirituality we feel close to our souls. Leading spiritual lives, thanks to the acknowledgement of God, and praising him for having the opportunity to live in such a graceful way.

This is what the truely religious should be about. To give confidence to live life in a peaceful, loving and undisturbed way, which was formerly not thought possible. Not the woman hating bigots that you keep reading about.

And what about Islam? Is there a way to use a vile book that is literally the word of God properly?

Can't comment, I'm out of my comfort zone with Islam. Have never read the qu'ran. Best talk to PinkPaver who seems to be the expert lol.

Hey welcome back :)

We look to follow Christ for love, forgiveness, redemption and some delightful guidance on bobble hats.

You can take over from me now. No-ones disproved that Genesis stories were allegorical...so u got to explain why the NT is faultless to Sham, and tell ricko why christians dont hate gays.

Once youve done that, and no-ones listened to you... i'll repeat what I said about Genesis and we can repeat the cycle again. And again. Hey, i've got lengthy assignments i'm trying to avoid

Think im gonna take a vacation from this thread, and EADD. Been meaning to visit... The Lounge, for some time now.

Hey welcome back :) christians dont hate gays.

If you mean by that, that as a genuine Christian would not 'hate' at all I would concur but I have certainly met a number of people claiming to be Christians that have expressed hatred towards homosexual men.

Looks like you've been holding the fort valiantly there Raas bless ya :D And theres my contribution...'Jesus wears bobble hats'.:-)

With regards to homosexuality I think you need to seek Gods will on who you are with and what you are doing. The bible says:

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.Psalms 37:4

and again in Proverbs:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.* Prov 3:6

In fact its all over the bible.. Seek God on the direction of your life. If you feel convicted don't have sex. Put it on hold. Sex is not a god and shouldn't be put before him like an idol. If you 'delight yourself' in God He will give you what you want anyway but it means turning from wordlly ways. Thats your spiritual sacrifice and its hard and its painful but ultimately blissful.

I'm not going to make a judgement about what you are doing sexually. I'm not equipped to. I just don't know whats in store for other people. Its by the grace of God that i can discern my own path. Once i've got the plank of wood out of my eye i'll turn and have a go at getting splinters out of other peoples eyes. Until then.. bobble hats :D

*straight here is about the road not sexuality.

^ lol, no, there's nothing wrong with Bobble hats.

My favourite is the "River Island Bobble Beanie hat". The Multi-coloured bobble on top is a cheerful addition to my summertime wardrobe and the delightful range of colours bring joy to all those around me.

Er, yeah anyway, onto theology, heaven, hell and eternal torment for you unrepentant bastards...

If you mean by that, that as a genuine Christian would not 'hate' at all I would concur but I have certainly met a number of people claiming to be Christians that have expressed hatred towards homosexual men.

A lot of people don't realise that Christiannity is just against hetro-sexuality as it is homosexuality. When the Bible says "those who fornicate do not get to heaven", it isn't just referring to gays.

Christiannity is a proponent of true, spiritual love... which we're told takes it's form between Man and Woman. Sexual desires outside this love, which are not of the same spirit, are considered naughty and sinful.

The 7 Days Story/Evolution - A Christian answer

There are a few hardcore Christians who refuse to accept anything other than the world being created in several days... etc

If anyone actually bothered to read this... I'm going to have to apologise to you, and retract 1/3rd of my theory. After further reading into this, it seems the contradiction in Genesis is actually created from bad translation over time. By looking at the original Greek literature it reads correctly and the contradiction disappears.

So, the idea of Genesis being allegorical isn't exemplified quite so obviously. My theory becomes less credible, but far from unproven.

I maintain that Genesis and 7 days story were always meant to be allegorical, [for instance "God taking a rib from Adam, then patching him up" to create Eve, is unlikely to be quite so empirically true, unless he's some kind of eccentric creator. Moreso, the imagery is alluding that the creation of man and woman being from the same (spiritual) substance.] (Ya'know, we're all the same underneath) and in no way is the book or religion discredited from modern science.

I hereby invite anyone denying that religion can be used, and is used, and generally is a force for evil to watch these videos..

They come out monthly.. so keep an eye on them and see just how much damage is being done by and in the name of religion every single month. (Also - check out previous vids)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1fT662iSUJg

From the passing of teaching creationism (ignorance) in schools, to the banning of rape victims (the girl in this video is 11) from having an abortion, from high priests in the vatican raping little boys to the millions spent by the vatican to cover it up..

Organised religion is a crock of shit that needs to be exterminated. :p

^ I think the problem is, Ricko, humans are always looking for outlets for their desires. It's not just religion which becomes abused by humans - but the media, politics, industries, corporations etc are all succumb to human abuse.

Then there are some also, who use religion, or politics, or the media... for good.

If someone has malice intent, and expresses it through religion... exterminating religion won't destroy their ill desires - they'll just find another avenue for it.

Your problem, throughout this thread, is that you blaim the actual religions when really you should be blaiming those humans which abuse it.

Ahh fuck, wrong picture... that was meant to be a stonecold "that's the bottom line"... fooking picture urls...

^ See you avoided answering my last post towards you.

And you should learn to question what you read. Just because it's from an anti-religion site doesn't make it truly authentic. As neither of us are master scholars it's hard/impossible for us to judge the accuracy of these claims.

However, it's always possible to look up the responses of people who have already done the hard work themselves:

The adulterous woman predates the Vaticanus. It is the Vaticanus that is flawed. I suggest reading the Byzantine Textform New Testament. The preface explains the error and its correction from examination of the thousands of Byzantine texts not monopolized by the Vatican. http://www.amazon.com/The-Testament-Original-Greek-Edition/dp/0759800774

I know you wouldn't look into this though, because you've demonstrated enough times that when it comes to religion you're biased as hell.

Sorry to sound so demeaning. Would like to be more positive. Put your every post reeks of such heavy blindness and bias towards religion, and I've learnt by now that you'll listen to no-one.

exactly. people who aren't into religion just haven't found the right religion yet or they're doing it in the wrong way or something like that.

meanwhile in the kaaba...
what is the kaaba all about? before islam there were idols in it. i think they were solid shapes or something. it's a mysterious old cube.

Not particularly good house design though. I bet that roof picks up all sort of shite in the winter time.

"Muslims are expected to face the Kaaba during prayers, no matter where they are. From any given point in the world, the direction facing the Kaaba is called the Qibla."

This is one thing I do not like about Eastern Religions. All the strange formalities which come along with praying. Fucksake I'm sure God doesn't mind which direction you face when you pray.

Hahahahahhahaaa! No, nobody's posted any of their vids in this thread thus far as far as I recall. Although they might've done cos I've definitely seen that first one before somewhere :sus:

They are funny as fuck all the same =D

This guy also does some hilarious atheist/antitheist animations. Funny as fuck but also maybe a tad near the knuckle for Xtain types cos he tends to base 'em directly on scripture. Raas will love 'em. Actually I think he probably will :D

Random example...

Evolution of Apologetics

Mr Deity is also hilarious. Another one of those lapsed Xtians who knows exactly how to strike below the belt whilst remaining strictly within The Book. Very funny show. Also rather thought-provoking at its best.

Mr. Deity Episode 1: Mr. Deity and the Evil

Gets better as it goes on. Jesus and Satan are also kewl as fuck in it.

Bit late I know, but just checking out your recommendation and this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j8ZMMuu7MU

just sez it all really...

I ignored it because you keep bringing that up.. And i've responded many times.. So i'll give it to you one last time..

I am not denying religion can and is used for good.. I'm saying it's mostly used for bad.. And in relation to your other examples of things being used for bad vs good by people.. They are all necessary.. Or a lot more so than religion..

I'll give you an example - I'm not necessarily saying that christianity turns people into pedophiles. But it does give them unwarranted (if only in their own minds) and largely unregulated power to commit these acts. On top of that it has the support and funds of very power people to not only let them get away with it.. but to stop anyone ever finding out.. Which is happening all the time. Every single day i read about another priest being convicted of multiple child abuse claims and not as much, but very often still, i will read how the catholic church spent millions covering these stories up, how the church knew that a priest was abusing children but didn't do a thing to stop it, and i literally just read about a senior catholic priest was willing to break the law to cover up child abuse claims.

The catholic church admitted to "indirectly" invest in online loaning company Wonga. The vatican bank has been known to launder money and it is more than likely still happening. The catholic church takes some 7 billion dollars a year from it's church goers alone.. Tax exempt, of course. Now you or others may say "Yeah but they then spend it on charitable things blah blah blah".. Yeah.. they might do.. Just another part of the hugest scam on earth. If you think they give more money, or even anywhere near an equal amount of money as what they take, then you are very, very naive. So, are they doing it for the good of man, or to make billions and billions of moneys? It's obvious. Then when you remember that most of the churches charity "employees" are volunteers working for little - nothing.. Urgh..

Creationism in schools, murder / wars (mostly talking middle east here.. again i hear you saying "but they're fighting over land" or "they're just bad people regardless of religion" but you can't ignore the religious aspect and reasoning as to why these groups exist, and even if you can, you can't ignore the religious aspect of their drive and motivation), the oppression of women, the oppression of homosexuals, even the oppression of people of other faiths, indoctrination of children, genital mutilation, unwarranted trust and power bestowed upon people for running a church - positions highly open and easy for those "bad seeds" of yours to attain.

Muslims consider the Koran to be the literal word of God .. Just have a little browse of the kind of ignorant and evil things that book is full of.

And i may be wrong (pretty sure I'm not) but it sure seems like there is a lot higher percentages of bad seeds within the higher positions of the church than there are say; Doctors or teachers. Hmmm.

"With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil — that takes religion."

59503_502797666463864_804317745_n.jpg

Also.. I may be biased, we all are.. But I'm open at the same time. I'm willing to accept I may be wrong.

But why do you trust that random poster over the word of someone who was a priest for 17 years and was an advisor for the big P himself? The adulterous woman was the only example he brings up in the article, but he claims to know 100s more.

Sorry short shitey response here but I have a massive headache. And this is the worst thread to post in when you have a headache:

I am not denying religion can and is used for good.. I'm saying it's mostly used for bad..

Heavily abused. Yeah I'd go along with that. Throughout history and in the modern world.

It becomes a complicated issue, because classing "religion" as a whole is completely unfair, because you're grouping peace-loving Christians, and sadistic Satan cults into the same division. We have to discern between the "True religion" and the "False religions" and then the true religion will have different denominations, some of which should be disregarded. It all get's very complicated and controversial.

So yes you are right to an extent, but you should be more aware of the beautiful aspects of true religion, which should not be negated because of the many who get it wrong.

Essentially, religion comes in different spirit. There are churches that cater for those seeking to live life in a purer way, in acceptance of God and promote using your life for good. This is really what it's about, and is not right to criticise this way of life, because of the many who get it wrong...

Ricko said:

You're missing the point. Religions, politics, BBC4, Newspapers etc all suffer from human abuse.

You get paedophile priests, peado celebrities (Saville) and peado teachers. Though you may not consider religion as important as, lets say, politics, it is still necessary for a lot of people and cannot be blamed just because some bad seeds use it and abuse it.

Genesis was originally written in Hebrew not Greek. The Greek is a translation of the Hebrew original ;)

Also, Genesis as it is in all extant versions is but fragments of long lost earlier books. No such thing as an original Genesis really. Just a case of which version you favour really :)

This is one thing I do not like about Eastern Religions. All the strange formalities which come along with praying. Fucksake I'm sure God doesn't mind which direction you face when you pray.

Since when was Islam an Eastern religion?!? Christianity started further east than Islam did :D

Besides, is one of the Abrahamic religions anyway so the Muslims are your spiritual cousins :)

I bind unto myself today
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same
The Three in One and One in Three.

I bind this today to me forever
By power of faith, Christ’s incarnation;
His baptism in Jordan river,
His death on Cross for my salvation;
His bursting from the spicèd tomb,
His riding up the heavenly way,
His coming at the day of doom
I bind unto myself today.

I bind unto myself the power
Of the great love of cherubim;
The sweet ‘Well done’ in judgment hour,
The service of the seraphim,
Confessors’ faith, Apostles’ word,
The Patriarchs’ prayers, the prophets’ scrolls,
All good deeds done unto the Lord
And purity of virgin souls.

I bind unto myself today
The virtues of the star lit heaven,
The glorious sun’s life giving ray,
The whiteness of the moon at even,
The flashing of the lightning free,
The whirling wind’s tempestuous shocks,
The stable earth, the deep salt sea
Around the old eternal rocks.

I bind unto myself today
The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, His might to stay,
His ear to hearken to my need.
The wisdom of my God to teach,
His hand to guide, His shield to ward;
The word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.

Against the demon snares of sin,
The vice that gives temptation force,
The natural lusts that war within,
The hostile men that mar my course;
Or few or many, far or nigh,
In every place and in all hours,
Against their fierce hostility
I bind to me these holy powers.

Against all Satan’s spells and wiles,
Against false words of heresy,
Against the knowledge that defiles,
Against the heart’s idolatry,
Against the wizard’s evil craft,
Against the death wound and the burning,
The choking wave, the poisoned shaft,
Protect me, Christ, till Thy returning.

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.
By Whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.

^ that's for you raas. i think there's some good bits in it.

raas, do you believe or do you know? all the muslims i teach KNOW that the fact that a chewed piece of chewing gum looking like an embryo is proof of allah coz something said years ago that the embryo looks like something that has been chewed. they know that the day of judgement will be a friday. I don't like the protection given to islam from questions. I want to know more about the kaaba but I'm hitting a brick wall!
no, I was brought up to believe in this that and the other as a matter of faith not to know categorically that it is true. don't think they are encouraged to question just accept it all as truth. Funny how they will be a bit weary of "christians" but say yer a catholic and that's ok. Why is that?

Do you do god worship? see, I don't think that this deity wants worship, it just wants a helping hand in keeping things in order. I love all the nonsense I've been reading that goes on about people being tricked into worshipping the wrong god (most often satan) your intetntion is your intention, and if yer directing yer worship to what you believe is wholesome then I can't see how it would please old nick.

What do you think of the serpent business? It's all very confusing when you start looking into it. serpent worship, sun worship, moon worship, lucifer worship. I don't see the need for worship.
