''Like every other good thing in this world, leisure and culture have to be paid for. Fortunately, however, it is not the leisured and the cultured who have to pay''

Aldous Huxley

It's not funny or anything, but it always stuck with me after reading his biography.

'I'd much rather have that fellow inside my tent pissing out than outside my tent pissing in.' - President Lyndon Johnson.

He was talking about Hoover :)

"I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates
me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone
hasn't met me yet." Rodney Dangerfield.

"I haven't spoken to my wife in
years. I didn't want to interrupt
her." Rodney Dangerfield.

"If it was raining soup, the Irish
would go out with forks."
Brendan Behan.

"She had lost the art of conversation
but not, unfortunately, the power of
speech." George Barnard Shaw.

Were a Martian to pass by this way and cast an innocent gaze across the England line-up, Rooney is probably the last player an extra terrestrial would pick out. He doesn’t present the honed physique of the 21st century footballer, he is shorter than most and lacks obvious charisma. Then he moves. What the eye cannot charter when stationary is all too obvious when Rooney is in full flight. The cumbersome outer falls away to reveal a form of balletic quality.

"Niceness is a decision, a strategy of social interaction; it is not a character trait. People seeking to control others almost always present the image of a nice person in the beginning."

Gavin De Becker

"If the whole existence is one, and if the existence goes on taking care of trees, of animals, of mountains, of oceans -from the smallest blade of grass to the biggest star -- then it will take care of you too. Why be possessive? The possessiveness shows simply one thing - that you cannot trust existence. You have to arrange separate security for yourself, safety for yourself; you cannot trust existence. Non-possessiveness is basically trust in existence. There is no need to possess, because the whole is already ours."

Osho

"We are not here in this world to find elegant solutions, pregnant with initiative, or to serve the ways and modes of profitable progress. No, we are here to provide for all those who are weaker and hungrier, more battered and crippled than ourselves. The is our only certain good and great purpose on earth, and if you ask me about those insoluble economic problems that may arise if the top is deprived of their initiative, I would answer, to hell with them. the top is greedy and mean and will always find a way to take care of themselves. They always do." Michael Foot

"The more man clings to religion, the more he believes. The more he believes, the less he knows. The less he knows, the more stupid he is. The more stupid, the easier he can be governed! The easier to govern, the better he may be exploited. The more exploited, the poorer he gets. The poorer he gets, the richer and mightier the domineering classes get, the more riches and power they amass, the heavier their yoke upon the neck of the people." - Johann Most

"All it requires for the forces of evil, bigotry, superstition and ignorance to keep their grip on the minds of the people is that good men and women continue to do nothing." - After Voltaire

"Of all the tyrannies that affect mankind, tyranny in religion is the worst; every other species of tyranny is limited to the world we live in, but this attempts to stride beyond the grave, and seeks to pursue us into eternity." - Thomas Paine

"The suppression of uncomfortable ideas may be common in religion and politics, but it is not the path to knowledge, it has no place in the endeavor of science." - Carl Sagan

"It is only possible in one person's lifetime to read this many books... The trick is to read the right books." - Carl Sagan

"If you want to make someone angry, tell him a lie. If you want to make him furious, tell him the truth. - Arthur Schopenhauer

"If we don't believe in freedom of expression for
people we despise, we don't believe in it at all."
-Noam Chomsky

"Believe nothing. No matter where you read it, or who said it, even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." - Buddha

Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts.

The beauty of life is, while we cannot undo what is done, we can see it, understand it, learn from it and change. So that every new moment is spent not in regret, guilt, fear or anger, but in wisdom, understanding and love.

- Jennifer Edwards
