EADD "Quote of the Day" thread!

What do you mean pretends? His name is Hugo Chavez. ;)

I don't get what you're trying to say at all, speak sense not nonsense. ;)

Not at all, basically, if you go to the shops and ask for a jumper and they give you trousers you won't be happy will you?

That's basically the same here.

Ya get me?

'Friends are gods apology for relations' - Hugo Kingsmill.

I take this quote very personally, met a lot of good people through BL, including my wife...

^The thing is, although I no longer drink, sometimes I STILL have a hangover. I talked with my drug counsellor and she said that it's quite common with addicts who have stopped drinking. Nobody knows why, but it's a bastard to know you drank water all evening and wake up feeling like you dropped 1/2 a bottle of Sainsburys cheap vodka!!!

"The truth about the world, he said, is that anything is possible. Had you not seen it from birth and thereby bled it of its strangeness it would appear to you for what it is, a hat trick in a medicine show, a fevered dream, a trance bepopulate with chimeras having neither analogue nor precedent, an itinerant carnival, a migratory tentshow whose ultimate destination after many a pitch in many a mudded field is unspeakable and calamitous beyond reckoning"

Cormac McCarthy.

My signature, back from the days when they used to be visible in every post you made

"I'm merely myself, as near as dammit. I'm whatever you like - just don't expect me to join in. You see, I'm not different for the sake of being different, only for the desperate sake of being myself.!

Also, there's times when you can surprise yourself. I can't remember saying this, but my other half and my mother do (got phone call from mother, wife shoves phone in my direction, me obviously not awake fully)...

"Get away from me with that thing, I don't need buffing, I'm shiney enough already"

Mrs f&b said she was convulsed with laughter, as was my mother at the other end of the phone; typical, I can't even remember it!

The only philosophy which can be responsibly practiced in the face of
despair is the attempt to contemplate all things as they would present
themselves from the standpoint of redemption. Knowledge has no light but
that shed on the world by redemption: all else is reconstruction, mere
technique. Perspectives must be fashioned that displace and estrange the
world, reveal it to be with its rifts and crevices as indulgent and
distorted as it will appear one day in the messianic light.

Adorno

Compassion is the one true religion.

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us "universe", a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."

Albert Einstein

"When you come to the edge of all the light you have, and you must take a step into the darkness of the unknown, believe that one of two things will happen to you - either there will be something solid for you to stand on or you will be taught how to fly."

Patrick Overton

"A man told his grandson: "A terrible fight is going on inside me -- a fight between two wolves. One is evil, and represents hate, anger, arrogance, intolerance, and superiority . The other is good, and represents joy, peace, love, tolerance, understanding, humility, kindness, empathy, generosity, and compassion. This same fight is going on inside you, inside every other person too."

The grandson then asked: "Which wolf will win?"

The old man replied simply: "The one you feed."

"God gave us memories so that we might have roses in December."

"There are few more impressive sights in the world than a Scotsman on the make." <--------Hahaha!!! =D

James M. Barrie

"If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is: infinite."

"No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings."

"The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself."

"As a man is, so he sees."

William Blake

Let's face it, you could quote just about anything by William Blake & be floored by the elegance of its truth & beauty.

"I hate quotations. Tell me what you know."

Ralph Waldo Emerson
