It's funny seeing what people perceive themselves as. There's a lot of 'lurkers' I would consider posters, and both gayorstraight and Sammy are posting more than some of the 'posters'.

so.. what will happen to those that say they lurk but will post more.. and dont?

or those who have had enough.. but continue to post?

there should be some penalty surely

GoS, like Sam is a girl. (j/k sam). It would be nice if people who have "had enough" would give their reasons.

Also Sam is a sarcy bugger so I wouldn't take that too seriously. He's been through much worse on here in times past yet stayed with us.
Had enough because it's way boring and depressing.

I still check in, hence this post :)

^ exactamundo. As I always say, if you think it's boring, then write something interesting. If you think it's depressing, then write something uplifting.

This is not a public entertainment service. It's a discussion forum. It's the members that make it what it is.

They will be banned from lurking, and forced to post, at gunpoint if necessary.

The eadd dramaz are too much for me at my time of life....8)

I need to lurk more and delete old posts to get my count down.

Don't be ashamed of your post count, Kate.

It is not a shameful thing.

You could always make a new account if you wanted to.

It's a dreadful shameful thing, indicative of too much time wasted achieving nought in reality.

Though I do fancy taking over Spade's Mum's account :D....with us being related n' all, its an allowable family thang.

No. Not like incest :|

You asked for my reason and I gave it.

Writing something uplifting won't stop the RIP threads.

Boring cos I'm just not feeling it. I didn't blame anyone. Hactually! So there.

Thank you for giving your reason, GoS. You're right, I did ask.

But that doesn't mean I can't respond :D And I never said you were blaming anyone. Hactually.

No, writing something uplifting won't stop the RIP threads. I wasn't suggesting that. And it's no reason not to write something uplifting or entertaining, is it?

I understand it's been depressing, and that feeling lingers. And I understand how it might be boring. Some of the people who have died were very active, entertaining posters. So yeah, that is shit.

My point is that it won't get better if people stop posting. It will get worse. So it would be nice if rather than stopping posting, people posted more.

On the other hand, forums, like anything else, don't always go on and on forever, and they certainly don't stay the same for ever. It's possible EADD has changed forever. There's not a lot I can do about it myself though, it takes a lot of people being active to make EADD the fun, buzzy place that it has been in the past. And it still is sometimes fun and buzzy, but it's less often at the moment, for all the reasons we've talked about.

And for the most part, these days, the members are equal parts boring and depressing.

I think that's not quite fair, there are many interesting people here and many humourous people too. The place has had it's legs knocked out from under it with the recent deaths, it's affected many people in a bad way, and people have been taking leaves of absence whether temporary or permanent, for various reasons. It takes a critical mass of active posters to get things lively, because the liveliness is a result of interaction, and I think that critical mass needs to re-establish itself. Perhaps it won't, but I don't think it's unlikely. As long as people keep posting and maybe some lurkers get their fingers out and add to the numbers, then we should be fine.

Eadd is organic it does its own thing, don't worry about it so much x

I'll still come on here for HR advice, and the occasional look in the TV or Movie thread, but other than that the "social" side of EADD is dead for me.

You're going to hate life, then, because life goes like this too. Friends fall out, get married and become boring (not always at the same time :D), move to other places, and sometimes they die.

The thing is, I think a forum has a better chance of recovering that spirit than a group of friends in real life. The anonymity and common interest that we have on EADD give it a good chance that it will become livelier again. As long as people take drugs and look for somewhere to talk about them, then EADD will have a flow of new members.
