You got the quote wrong. It's "If you're not" not "if you don't".

i like to think that pagey corrected the obvious grammatical error in the original:

"I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not..."

should really be:

"I hope you're living a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not..." (i.e. you're not...living)

or

"I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you don't..." (i.e. you don't...live)
