EADD Movie Recommendations Thread v.4...not for TV series and stuff Dan...

Yeah - I did actually. I loved it at the time and think I might have recommended it at Uni, which weighs a bit heavy!

I had one of the tunes off the soundtrack on a minidisc compilation I made up - which pretty much dates it:). I remember it well because I was just getting into electronic music at the time. I really liked that soundtrack and late 90s Aphex Twin, amongst other breakbeaty stuff. I ended up focusing on DnB and listened to little else for the next few years. Bit of a weird route, but there you go!

Good choice, anyway man.

Shit I did it again... just did ctrl+F 'TV' and got this damn thread... should really pay more attention before posting. 8)

jsut seen Edge of Tomorrow.

not usually a tom cruise fan, but he s quite appropriate in this. overall a pretty good actiony light scifi movie :)
would lvoe to have had the chance to see it in 2d as it was pretty dark in the 3d glasses

^ Might be seeing that on Friday. Shall look forward to it if so.

I've just watched: The Conjuring

Great film. I'd stopped watching horror movies a while back as everything that came out was garbage... this film has restored my confidence so I'm going to see if there is anything else decent that I have missed.

yeah I sort of enjoyed it - If you like 'horror' then check out 'Open Grave' or 'Oculus' - whilst not technically a horror 'the returned' is a good twist on the usual zombie flick. If you really want to be horrified and don't mind artsy, subtitled movies then 'the act of killing', I didn't know how to feel after it ended, I sort of felt I needed a hot shower :/

Don't forget if you like the style of primer try his other film Upstream Colour (mentioned above) - that's going to take me a few re-watches. I like it even better than primer (but might be too vague for some)

Cheers :D I was a huge fan of Primer so I watched Upstream Colour yesterday and it was great, Primer was an awesome film but this one took the cake and did an even better job at approaching such a mindfuckery of a subject matter.

The Oculus appears to be out the cinemas now unfortunately. To be fair, I've only seen a few of the classic horror movies... and some of the modern slasher flicks. Need to delve a bit more into the genre...

Picked up copies of:

Poltergeist (I may have seen all or parts of it a long time ago)

Rosemary's Baby

I think I'll be watching Rosemary's Baby tonight...

Been doing a John Candy/Hughes retrospective - Planes, Trains and Automobiles has to be the best comedown flick in the history of film.

I got around to watching Rosemary's Baby this afternoon in the end. I'm not exactly sure it's quite what you'd class as 'horror' film stereotypically... certainly a lot of paranoia and suspense though! Some people said it was boring or too long but they are just inbreds.

I quite like watching older films if I'm in the mood... everyone these days expects to see something happen 5 minutes into the film. It's nice to build the plot up slowly & develop the characters a bit.

That film really disturbed me when I watched it, preyed on my mind for a while after and gave me nightmares, even though I simultaneously thought it a bit corny and tacky. I don't know if it was the mood I was in or what.

It's got the slightly surreal, oppressive feeling of an actual nightmare, which I think is what marks it out. I agree that it's too classy to be called a genre flick.

Yeah, that' s a great way of describing it.

I think a lot of older films seem a bit corny or tacky but if it's a good film, it's just endearing really.

Don't get me wrong, I love older films and Rosemary's Baby is part of a golden age of cinema. I think the things that made it seem corny and tacky are nothing to do with it being dated. The superficially cheesy aspects are what made it so surreal and dreamlike, I think it was supposed to be that way. It's very similar to Blue Velvet in that respect.

I watched a good thriller/horror last night - was from last year but I must have missed it as was on TV.

Chained - Bob, a cab-driving serial killer who stalks his prey on the city streets alongside his reluctant protégé Tim, who must make a life or death choice between following in Bob's footsteps or breaking free from his captor. Don't read any of the reviews on IMDB as they contain spoilers.

Team Yifi has it via torrent :)

Trancendence - A scientist's drive for artificial intelligence, takes on dangerous implications when his consciousness is uploaded into one such program.

Enjoyed this :)

Lone Survivor

If you like your military films, then this won't fail to deliver. The middle section was really tense & edge of your seat stuff... very satisfying at the end when the birds arrive. I'll say no more. :)

It has a bit of substance to it too unsurprisingly as it's based on a true story... certainly portrays the camaraderie very well.

Good casting too. Real fan of Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster & Emile Hirsch. Worth a watch.
